    She is very close and I could walk to her office.  She is very good at what she does and she is a very good doctor. She is very thorough and she takes time with people.   I had been doing home care nursing and she was one of the doctors for a lot of the patients that I have. Every time I called her about a patient she was right on it and she took her time. She knew what she was doing and she took the time. She knew what the problem was and what to do about. So when I needed a primary care doctor I choose her. She does not care if you have money or if you are poor she gives the same care.  She makes me feel very comfortable. She wanted me to do lab work and she followed up on it real fast.

    Dr. Casteneda has been my doctor for nearly 10 years. He is a very caring general practitioner. The only negative I have to report is that quite often I have had to wait 30-45 minutes or more to be seen on the day of appointment. His office will try to alert you prior to your appointment time if he is running late. This is not a big problem with me as I am retired, but could be a problem for a working person.

    When I made appointment for the surgery in the surgeon's office I received a comprehensive and very helpful guidebook prepared by the hospital's spine center. They also offer classes on spine surgery-what to expect and tips for optimal recovery. The hospital also provides economical overnight accommodations via the Hackerman-Patz House for patients and families traveling longer distances. My husband and I stayed there and it was very comfortable. I arrived at hospital at the appointed time and was taken care of immediately. This is always important for pre-surgical patients because waiting increases anxiety. The surgery went well and the post-operative nursing care was exceptional. All my needs were anticipated and taken care of with warmth and concern.

    The nurse listened with interest and helped me feel comfortable about meeting the new doctor. However, the doctor seemed to rush through the exam with the advice that I should use Neosporin for it, even though I told her that I had been using it, and that I'd had a bad reaction to the ointment. In retrospect, I believe that, had she stopped to listen and think about the information I had just offered, she might have started to figure out the problem.
    At that point, I'd been living with this particular cyst for several months, during which it would sometimes start to diminish but then return again, and even started to feel as if it was becoming infected. I was desperate to know why I was getting them, and why this one wouldn't go away. But the doctor dismissed my question with a and quot;could be lots of thingsand quot; answer. Frustrated and miserable, I assumed there was nothing that could be done except to remove it surgically. The doctor seemed irritated by the request, but agreed to do it. After she removed it, along with part of my labia (of course), she gave me some information on a surgical procedure to alleviate heavy periods, which I never indicated was a problem for me.
    Some time later, the cysts started up again. Rather than take a knife to it this time, I researched the problem myself. It turns out that my roller-coaster hormones were producing excess vaginal discharge, for which I had started using panty liners. But, as evidenced by my reaction to the Neosporin, my labial skin is extremely sensitive to foreign substances and fabrics. I have since stopped using the liners, and now wear only plain cotton panties, and the cysts haven't returned.
    I wish this doctor had taken the time to find out about me so she could have provided me with some real help, as opposed to the and quot;I've got 10 minutes, so let's get on with itand quot; attitude I experienced.

    I had a very unsatisfactory experience. The follow-up was fine. Getting treatment for the condition is not fine. I have a condition that he is not treating. It causes me a lot of pain and discomfort. It has gotten to the point where I am switching doctors next month.

    She listens to me. She is effective, thorough, and a good doctor. She is also not an alarmist, she is very patient. Her office staff is wonderful and has been with her for years. She is always teaching as she goes along.

    I cannot reccomend Brookellen and her staff highly enough. I once observed her seeing a patient in the parking lot as the patient was unable to exit her car to be seen in the office. Dedication is Brookellen's motto and she lives up to that everyday.
