Concrete Repair reviews in Bel Air

  • Troy initially visited and wrote up a very professional contract, detailed what kind of materials would be used and what work was to be done. David, the brother of Troy, was the person in charge on the ground. He is a nice fellow and a hard worker. The crew was impressive and worked together efficiently. They finished the job by the end of the afternoon. David showed me what they had done and Troy called to let me know that they had photos of the top of the chimney to send. I was pleased with the quality of the work and the friendliness of the whole crew. This is the kind of company you hope for. They tell you what is to be done in detail, specify the materials, and bring a large crew to quickly do quality work. I had other quotes which were lower, but did not specify in detail what work was to be done and what materials would be used. The professionalism of the initial contract convinced me that this company would do a great job. I am completely satisfied.

  • Ron and his coworker, Greg, were a pleasure to work with. They spent four days at my house completing a long list of repairs that were needed both inside and out. They arrived each day on time and worked consistently throughout the day. They even completed the outside jobs in 95+ degree heat without complaint. Upon completion of each task, I was asked to inspect the work to be sure it was to my satisfaction, which it always was. Their workmanship is outstanding. Just as important, I felt completely comfortable with both Ron and Greg in my home. They were friendly, professional, and respectful. One of the best experiences I have ever had with contractors!

  • I would like to caveat anything I say here by simply stating that the pictures below are, in fact, the work that was completed by Solid Brick Contracting. If you feel the quality of work displayed in these pictures is professional, then you can ignore this review, but I do recommend reading because their responsiveness after I paid for the job in full was essentially nonexistent. This may concern you if you have similar issues in the beginning or in a year from now if you have a warranty issue. After the job was complete and I paid in full (my mistake), I contacted Solid Brick Contracting on 5/3/2018 via email. To date (6/19/2018), they have not even come out to look at the issues, let alone address them. They have made 4 attempts to schedule something, but they never followed through or cancelled. My main issue is with the brick work around the porch. I actually mentioned some of the issues below to Solid Brick Contracting before I paid. They said that the pressure washing and cleaning would address the issue regarding the mortar residue and the mortar joint shaping, uniformity and smoothness. I did find this hard to believe, but I gave it a chance. My mistake was really not allowing it to dry overnight before paying him because it was still wet when I came home so it made everything look uniform. (Note: Just as a side note, notice that a lot of the pictures in the reviews on various sites show it wet. This hides a lot of the imperfections and I assume that is why they do it.) While the pressure washing did remove a bit of the mortar residue, it did very little if anything for the uniformity and smoothness of the shaping of the mortar joints. As I see it, here are the issues with the brick work still: 1) There is still a lot mortar residue on the surface of the bricks around the whole porch. 2) There is significant color variation in the mortar joint. 3) The brick pattern is not consistent. (I don’t know why I didn’t notice that before I paid, but I didn’t). The top row on the left side and one of the rows on the right side does not match the offset pattern of all of the other brick work. 4) The bricks are not level, plum, or laid flat. The surface looks jagged as you can see. 5) The color of bricks also do not match, they replaced 3 bricks in the bottom row on the left side. You can clearly see which ones they are. 6) The difference in the widths of the mortar joints in general on the brick around the porch is significant. They should all be uniform in width. 7) The mortar joints themselves should be smooth and shaped evenly through the entirely of the work. They are clearly not. Oddly enough, the brick work on the border of the walkway is relatively fine. I am not sure what happened on the porch. It is such poor craftsmanship that I cannot accept it. I don’t see any other option other than completely removing the brick border on the porch and redoing. In addition to the brick work, they also left A LOT of mortar residue on my concrete driveway and left the debris from the excavation in my backyard. If it was clean fill, I would not mind, but it ended up being almost all rock and pebbles. Rock up to 4” or 5” in diameter and A LOT of it. I cannot even run over that area with my lawnmower or it will damage it. I asked him to address this before I paid them and it appears they didn’t do it or did a poor job doing it. I should have checked that before I paid, but I just didn’t. There were a few other things not done to contract, but I did not mention them here, but may decide to as the resolution to these issues progress. Prior to being paid in full, Solid Brick Contract was quite responsive, fair in price, punctual, and professional and I would have rated them highly in these categories if they didn’t completely ignore my concerns after I paid them. This is the true test of a professional contractor in my opinion and I am sure others would agree. These are the picture of the work they did and they did essentially become unresponsive after I paid. This IS a HUGE flag if you are considering to hire them regardless of whether you think I am picky. They didn’t even come to my house to look at the issues yet, let alone address them. Good luck if you choose to go with this company, but I highly recommend going elsewhere.

  • I have been remiss in providing a review for this contractor, this review should have been submitted long ago. The installation went pretty well. Unfortunately we had a lot of water that came into our basement. Jay suggested that we install two sump pumps instead of the just one we already had. I am glad he did. It had rained pretty hard for a few days before his crew arrived. When they started breaking up the concrete the water started pouring in, it was a real mess. When they drilled into the block walls the water literally shot out. They busted up the concrete, dug a trench, installed a filter barrier, laid drain tile, covered with stone, and then covered it all with new concrete. They also installed two sump pump tubs and sump pumps in opposite corners of the basement. Even though it was a real mess they did a great job cleaning up afterwards. I cannot say enough about this company's customer service, they have been great, they stand behind their work. I had a small leak appear in the center of our basement after a very heavy rain. I called Jay and he sent two men out to install an additional drain to the center of the basement at no additional charge. Yesterday I noticed a small amount of water on the basement floor, thinking it was water coming up through the floor I took a photo and emailed it off to Jay. Jay replied to my email within the hour. Before I could reply to the email he called me on the phone and wanted to know if he could come right over to check it out. He was there in about 30 minutes. As it turns out he found that the water was not coming up from the floor but from the floor above. Amazing customer service. I HIGHLY recommend Jay and Basement Innovations Waterproofing.

  • Let me tell you about Crockett and Sons Concrete Inc.. I contacted 4 concrete contractors for replacement of two existing sidewalks in front of my house and repair of some paving stones on a patio in the rear of my home. One contractor never called me back, one contractor stated he would call me back, but never did, one called me back-then set up an appointment  for an estimate-but never showed up! This , unfortunately ,is the common rude behavior many concrete contractors exhibit-especially during the summer when they are very busy. Crockett and Sons, despite being very busy, returned my call right away-then promptly set up an appointment for an on site estimate. They showed up right on time, listen to my concerns, took the appropriate measurements and left. I received an estimate, via e-mail a few days later. After agreeing to a price and signing a contract, the workers showed up a couple of weeks later and completed all work in one day . The work performed was of excellent quality, the job site was left in a clean state, and they completely repaired any landscaping damage caused by the work. Very satisfied!

  • The crew worked quickly and very professional.  Driveway looks great and workers cleaned up after the job was completed.  I need more work done on the deck and will definitely use Mike and his crew.

  • Gunnite pool resurfacing change to gray from white.  Now it's many shades of gray, with white spots and surface cracks.
Pool tile has been falling out ever since installation.  Every spring there are more surprise sections of missing tiles when the cover is removed.
Coping was not a bad job.

  • I was extremely pleased with the work that Craig and Mike completed in our home.  They were recommended to us by a structural engineer.  We wanted to be sure that some work a previous contractor performed was done correctly, and Craig and Mike were able to review it and say that it was.  We had a list of many things to have done, particularly replacing 2 rotten fence posts and a sunken deck step.  It was obvious that they care about the quality of their work because they did not just simply reattach the step - they dug a hole and poured a concrete slab that will now keep the step supported.  They worked together to quickly take out several annoying creaks in our kitchen floor and even secured a table leg on our kitchen table.
Craig and Mike work very quickly, but pay attention to detail.  One thing I really like is that they are so knowledgeable about most every aspect of home building and repair.  I can feel confident that if they run into an unexpected issue, they will be able to fix it.  We plan to get in touch with them when we are ready to complete a flooring project.

  • Job started in April and 3months later still not completed. Promised in many occasions workers would show up and never showed up with no communication. Voice mail of owner of company always full and never returned calls. Excuse tried to use was weather but numerous days of nice weather. Damaged pipe a nd French drain with equipment. Poured a wall wrong color and tried to paint over color and never matched. Top to wall many excuses and lies where it was. First excuse was wrong color poured. Second excuse it was broken by workers. Third excuse it was on back order. Four weeks later no product. Got so upset told them not to return. Owner never called. Owner was quick to demand payments before work was completed and once he reached 90 percent of payment you never heard anything from him nor did he return any calls. The owner had a very nasty attitude. I would never do business with this contractor again or recommend his services to anyone
