Ok first of all they did the repair on my truck which was a muffler /tailpipe and two struts and the repair I have no problem with... I got a estimate over the phone when I called them which was inline around $450 for labor, they promised to call with a parts quote and then would go forward with work if I wanted to. I got a call that the truck was done , but did not ever get a parts quote ( I figured muffler tailpipe and a couple struts right can't be that much) I went in to get my truck and got a bill for nearly $1,100 for parts which I didn't get a chance to approve or know cost. I paid the charge and then when I got home got prices on the exact parts supplied online (got the strut numbers and muffler cost) Well from Amazon prime I could buy the struts for $103 each, and the muffler/tailpipe was $112.  Also got other pricing from auto zone and other vendors so the overall price for parts ranged from around $340-450. I called and left a message I was not happy and didn't get a response so called back, I got a lot of attitude -We only use best parts -We mark our parts up 60% -ETC... I explained I have no issue with marking up your parts but you buy them wholesale cheaper or at least the same cost.. And I never got a price quote for parts to approve. I was deferred to I will speak to Vicky and get back to you .... that was nearly two weeks ago. I am not abject to paying for labor at the rates, or evan a fair parts markup... but unless they don't care about parts pricing to pay a 300% markup is way beyond acceptable . I guess they don't think people will look up price of parts so they jam them and then don't respond when questioned. there are a lot of options for repairs in this area I would avoid this place .

They are great. I just love them. I would highly recommend them. They are just so honest. I have been going to them for years. My son had a car that kept on stalling out and he went on a business trip. So, I had the car. I took it in to them. They worked on it for a week. They took it to other places. They could not figure out what was going on. So, they said they were done because they could not fix it. They are a wonderful company all around. I think their price is good. Their responsiveness is excellent. It was probably six weeks ago and I called them up because the engine light came on. They told me to take it right in and I brought it right in. They fixed it and did not charge me anything.

    I live in Annapolis, Maryland:
    • My wife drove from Annapolis, MD  to Eastern NC in the VW Golf  to visit our son and his family (a 400 mile one way trip).
When she departed our son's house several days later, the transmission in the Golf did not want to shift properly.
My wife left the car at out son's home and returned home to Annapolis, MD via Amtrak.
There were no automobile repair shops in the vicinity of my son's home in Eastern NC that were VW proficient.
I began a Google search for auto/transmission repair facilities to the West of my son's home, and settled on the Raleigh area as the most likely location for foreign car experience.
I made a number of calls, and when I had a conversation with Todd Goodman, owner and operator of Affordable Transmission and Auto Repair Center, located at 2900 Capital Blvd, Raleigh, NC, I felt mostly OK.  How does one know about a shop you have never dealt with before, located 400 miles from home?
    Each conversation after our initial chat left me with more confidence;
Bottom line: An exceptional experience from beginning to end; price was competitive, Mr Goodman was (is) very knowledgeable, and made every effort to make my experience with his shop A+.  And it was.  One of the best automobile repair experiences I have ever gone through, and due to Mr. Todd Goodman and his exceptional shop!  The VW Golf TDI is now running exactly as it was engineered to perform.  SWEET!
Thanks to Mr Goodman and his most proficient technical staff,
    Tony

The transmission started to be hard to shift, then wouldn't shift at all. Trying to diagnosis it my self, I saw that the shifting fork was barely moving. I surmised it was the Slave Cylinder. Replaced it, but the shifting fork still was not moving enough. Replaced the Clutch Master Cylinder, Fork is moving ok but Transmission was still hard to shift. Called GB Transmission, They came out the next morning and towed it to their shop. They inspected it and found the clutch disc had worn out and was in pieces. They replaced it, and the bill was $22.00 under the estimate. Great service!

I took my 1998 323CI BMW into Redd's last month and was severely disappointed. Let me detail how unprofessional Redd's was in turn:

    1. I first tried to contact Redd's by phone on a Monday. No response, and no voicemail.

    2. I then sent Redd's an email via the web address provided on their website. No response.

    3. On Thursday, I called Redd's again and did get a response this time. We scheduled a time to bring my car in the following Monday, which was good for me since I could have one of my office mates accompany me and drive me back to work.

    4. I dropped off the car on Monday with the verbal agreement that the car would be diagnosised at the very latest by Wednesday afternoon. It was not. In fact, it wasn't diagnosed until late Friday afternoon and then only after I had repeated called to inquire on the status.

    5. I then continued to wait until the following Tuesday to get an estimate of how much the repairs would cost.

When I finally got the estimate i was shocked! First, Redd's had charged me $200.00 to just and quot;lookand quot; over my car. This included telling me that my foglamps were missing and my headliner was falling down... Thanks Redd's, I can see that myself. Then these guys proposed charging me up to $500.00 to replace my spark plugs and one of my direct ignition coils. For those that don't know much about cars, changing spark plugs isn't that difficult. To pay these guys $300 plus dollars for their labor means either they were charging me $200 per hour or that it took them 3 hours to change the plugs, both of which are ridiculous. I can go into more of the repair estimates, but the rest of their costs were also ridiculous. My favorite was their particular prices of parts, which in some cases were double or triple the cost of which I COULD BUY ONLINE.

I will never go back to these bozos and I don't recommend you do either.
