ASSI installed my kitchen countertops as a contractor for my local Home Depot. After having contact with another countertop contractor that was totally uncooperative as to my needs, I was able to change to ASSI. From the very beginning, they were courteous and helpful in all aspects of planning the fabrication of the tops. The men who did the installation couldnt have been better more helpful in making sure all of my requirements were met. I can give my interactions nothing but praise.

The renovation went very well. It was an extensive project renovating the existing home (down to the studs, new HVAC, siding, windows, roof, new kitchen, 3 new baths, etc) plus adding an addition that is now our master bedroom, laundry room, and master bath area. Misha was punctual, professional, and kind. Our project took 7 months-longer than we had planned for but 90% of the delays were caused by the city requiring additional work and waiting for them to come out and inspect. I highly recommend Misha for your home improvement project!

We had a wonderful experience with this company! Sean and Tyler listened carefully to my vision for a new kitchen. They researched diligently for creative solutions in my space. The installation was timely and of the highest quality. Taha came to my home upon completion to check all of the work. Months later when I requested additional shelf holders for a cupboard, they mailed them quickly and directly to my home. Working with this company was the best part of our complete home renovation. I can't say enough good about them!

American did an amazing job and I couldn't have asked for more! Bob Magersupp was my first contact with American and he came to our home to review the work to be done and give us an estimate of the cost. He was great! Very patient with us! Now about their was excellent! The new floors are perfect, the painting, bathroom remodeling everything made me love my home again!!! Thanks also to Tony and his crew for such great work! We had to put all our furniture in a Pod and move out for a couple of weeks. We had a flood so there was more to this transformation that meets the eye. Their communication (Bob) with our insurance company not only impressed us but our adjuster as well. It was all worth it! Thanks to Cindy the woman in charge....AND they cleaned up great. The house was move in ready.

We have had multiple projects done by Maryland Contracting & Design, 3 bathrooms remodeled, bamboo floors installed throughout the house and the first floor completely renovated. We are completely pleased with all of the renovations and feel like we are living in a new house. Excellent work!

AES from the top down is a great company to work with. Stephen did a great job with the initial consult, Shawna was invaluable with the detail design and the hand holding during the shoping. Finally Brian and Scott are amazing, very detailed orinated and great to work with. They truly took a vision and make it real and awesome. When we did run into a few small issues Tim Munson was readily available to chat and work through things so that all sides walked away happy. We would definately recommend and rehire AES

My wife and I strongly advise against using this contractor. We have had several major upgrades and repairs done to our house in the many years we've lived here -- new roof, basement from completely unfinished to finished, new HVAC system, new garage doors, etc. and have never had problems with contractors in the past. We were completely caught off guard with this experience... This contractor prices things using 'allowances' and then fails to meet the allowances, but takes no responsibility for the overages. After providing his 'allowance' estimates, he started the work of tearing out the old bathroom. He informed us that it would be extra if he found any water damage, rotted wood, etc., which we completely understood. There was no problem with any of that; all the structure was solid. He then informed us that it would be an extra $1000 because the electrical wiring was going to be more difficult than he expected....which was surprising because nothing was out of the ordinary electrically. I agreed to pay, but asked him to take a look at the remainder of the project and inform me of any other budget risk items. I have in writing from him that there would be no more 'surprises' after the $1000 extra for electrical. Then came the pricing of the shower glass, which he had allowed $2500 for. My wife questioned him on that allowance but he said he was sure of it, and he'd never gone over. We were shocked when the glass estimate came in at $4000 -- an overage of 60%. Again, no accountability, responsibility on his part. We found our own glass contractor and had the work completed independently (though it was not much cheaper than $4k). He never quality-checked his subcontractor work. The first time we turned the shower water on, it did not drain from about 1/3 of the floor. We allowed it several minutes, but a large puddle remained because the shower floor drain was not at the low point of the floor. He left a hot electric wire (from the previous steam shower unit) under the vanity. My wife found these and several other discrepancies days after the work was completed. The contractor never checked on the quality of the job himself. Throughout the project, we asked him to send us a quick email every Sunday evening with a general timeline for the week so we could make sure someone was home to let him and his workers in. He largely ignored this request, and would show up unannounced. On several occasions, he was rude and unprofessional toward my wife when she would identify discrepancies in materials or workmanship. He got angry at her for requesting that some parts of the cabinets be replaced. He insisted that his workers could touch up the dents/dings, but the workers advised my wife to ask for new pieces since the cabinets were under a manufacturer's lifetime warranty, but if they attempted to fill/sand the dents, the warranty may have been voided. It did not cost the contractor any more money to have those pieces replaced; he just didn't want to do it because of the time delay to receive the pieces that would ultimately delay his getting paid. The work had clearly not been satisfactorily completed, yet he demanded payment and even threatened to try to charge us interest on the remaining payment. Finally, in order to just put it behind us, we paid him every cent he asked for. But we will never hire him again, nor would we ever recommend him. Our neighbors started a similar project with him at about the same time as ours. Sadly, it sounds like he is not treating them much better than he treated us. But I will leave that to them for their review.

I have used Chesapeake in the past to repaint my house. After struggling to find a contractor that was willing to work with us on a shorter timeline, hard to exist without a kitchen, I decided to give James a ring. He sent over a member of his kitchen remodel team. They sized up the job and once we had a confirmed date on the cabinet delivery, they went to work. Along the way, the kitchen team made suggestions that made the remodel even better than it was drawn up. And it was completed in way less time than other folks that quoted told us. They also have excellent plumbing, painting, electrical and tile professionals, all with the proper credentials, who do outstanding work. Not to mention the best painters in the area, who really are "gentlemen". In my opinion if you are looking for someone who is honest, gives fair pricing, and delivers a finished product beyond your expectations, you won't go wrong in calling James!

UPDATED[11/12/2018]: VKB's negligent work has now caused water damage multiple times in my home. They have provided no ETA for today's incident that caused floor damage in the kitchen and ceiling damage in the basement. Avoid them at all costs. They do not care about the consumer. Overall, the quality of the finished product was very good. They did a great job and took pride in their work. Sadly, much of that has been overshadowed by horrendous project management and lack of any punctuality with arriving at the work site. Lets break it down by the pros and cons. Pros 1. Quality of work 2. Dedication to making things right 3. Overall professionalism in the face of frustration (my frustration) 4. Design eye. I worked with Junior and he is excellent when it comes to directing the customer in the right direction. Cons 1. Project management (lack thereof) 2. Punctuality. Some days crews didn't arrive for hours after they were supposed to. 3. Headache inducing lack of coordination 4. **** poor responsiveness to questions, concerns or requests This was a large remodel project and I fully understood it to be a 2-3 month effort. It took a number of meetings and discussions to have VKB provide any sort of expectation of timing for each piece. As of now (which is 95% through the project), I have yet to see any sort of construction plan. The original documents were wrong in many places and I've sent them multiple emails with the corrected items. No updated document was every provided. This has caused issues during the construction phase. Incorrect ordering of supplies and confusion at the job site are 2 major frustrations of mine. Added to this, their ordering was often wrong and they had to re-order certain supplies over and over. A single knob for the bathroom took over 2 weeks and 3 orders. They were short on handles for kitchen drawers. That order was (theoretically) placed around 10 days ago. Still no handles and no ETA. I assume much of that can be blamed on the wrong initial documentation that I have repeatedly asked to be updated. The remodeling effort was the first time I've done anything of this magnitude, so it's been a learning experience for me. Having said that, I also feel VKB did not provide me with all the options I should have had. For example, I was presented with sample granite at their Columbia showroom. I, incorrectly, assumed that was my only choice. The folks from the granite supply recommended to VKB that I come in to check the full slab that would be used. While there, I noticed a much nicer looking piece, to which I was told I could use as it was the same quality of the original one. I ended up changing my selection. I wish VKB had taken the initiative to send me there in the first place. Additionally, I then needed/wanted to change my backsplash tile. Without any assistance from the project manager at VKB, I was able to go to the tile showroom (which a vastly superior selection) and choose a new and more appropriate backsplash. Finally regarding overall communication, VKB failed here. Instead of having a project manager communicating each phase of the project, I ended up having to dictate what needed to happen at certain points. VKB initially pointed me to use a program called BuilderTrend that should provide schedules, payment information, change orders and general communication. This would be updated by the project manager (I assumed either daily or every few days). It was over a month before I saw anything on there and after that, another month before more information was provided. It appeared to be a great tool in their arsenal, but they did not effectively use it. All in all, there were many frustrating points. As I said, their work was impeccable once complete. They need to seriously consider how they manage their projects and greatly improve their communication. As I write this review, I had to (yet again) prompt the folks there to find out why work was not being done today. Crews were supposed to be at the house between 8-9 a.m. 11:30 a.m. and no one has begun today's tasks. Perhaps I'll be updating this review later to give them credit for making things right. For a project that is not inexpensive though, I had higher expectations. VKB came to the house today (1/9/18) to perform the final inspection. As part of that, we discussed my prior concerns about how the project was handled. They were very apologetic and did not want my prior experience to be how the relationship ended. We discussed the positives of everything (the workmanship, design and quality) and negatives (see above). They definitely understood that my time was valuable and wanted to ensure me that they appreciated all feedback to improve their customer service. They took the time to reassure me that they stand behind their work and will do what it takes to make the situation right. VKB upgraded numerous project items which made the end result a valuable upgrade to my home. While there were certainly complications during the project (and no project is free of hiccups), the end result was 2 amazing bathrooms and and beautiful kitchen. I would recommend VKB today

Perfectly. I was very favorably impressed by Jeff's professionalism, efficiency, and the quality of his work. We took four bids for the remodeling project. His was the lowest by a few thousand. (I think that might be because he has less overhead costs.) He began and completed the project on time. When he found that some of our pipes had rusted out--we have acidic water--he replaced them. He even fixed at no extra cost a leaky pipe he discovered in the basement that was dripping water on to the circuit breaker panel. He cleaned up immaculately each day before he left.
