The first class that I took in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu got me hooked. I introduced it to my children and now they are totally committed. I cannot put to words the tremendous positive impact attending Ivey League MMA has been on them.  As the father of a girl, knowing that she can handle any bad situation is quite re-assuring, through her Jui-Jitsu training she can literally fight from her back, knows how to strike and has the mental toughness and confidence few girls her age have. For my middle son, there were several attempts to bully him by kids two years older than him - when the bully pushed my son he put the bully into a rear naked choke (matte leon), the bully freaked out, my son let him go and the bully went off not knowing what happened. My youngest son is just starting but wants to be just like his older brother and sister (honor roll students, respectful, confident and powerful mixed martial arts students).
The environment is both intense but warm and encouraging. Ask many of the kids there and they are there because they truly love it. Joining Ivey League MMA has been a transformative event in our family, I have nothing but gratitude and thanks to Danny, Teresa, Chrissy and the other staff that. This is the real deal.

My wife and I found Ivey League MMA in 2012 when we were on the hunt to get our son involved in an after school activity. We had been through it all; t-ball, basketball, football, and endless instruments. One day our son came to us with the idea that he wanted to do MMA. Reluctantly, we searched for a kids MMA training center and found Ivey League. We had been through karate and kung f* and were less than impressed with the skills he acquired from either art form. He was just not passionate about either and we had been burned by the belt factories, but a 30-day free trial? Why not! So we gave it a go. From the first day we walked into the gym, we immediately felt like we were in a family-based program. We were expecting to see kids training to be cage fighters and instead found a fantastic group of kids that demonstrated some amazing self-defense skills as well as good behavior and respect not only for the instructors but for one another. After the first class, our son was hooked. We started out two days per week and soon his dedication and commitment to learning paid off. He was invited to join the advance BBC (black belt committed) classes in which children make the commitment to work toward their black belts and increase their frequency and intensity of training. Without hesitation, we signed up and life for us would never be the same.
After several months training in the advanced classes, Master Danny Ives invited our son to participate in a regional tournament. Once our boy got his first taste of tournament life, there was no going back. He was bitten by the Jui-Jitsu bug and it has changed his world. The day he walked into Ivey League, he couldnt do a cartwheel, a forward roll, pull-up and barely even a few push-ups. We are astounded at the transformation that we have witnessed in him both physically and emotionally over the last 24 months. He is 13 now and competes in the expert level division all over the country. Less than 24 months with the instruction of Ivey League MMA and he is competing against kids that have been doing this since kindergarten. And not only that, he is winning! As of this posting hes currently ranked 4th in the country and has even been offered a wresting scholarship to a very prestigious local private high school.
Unlike most teenage boys, he spends every single day conditioning and learning his craft. He reads BJJ books rather than playing video games. He spends his weekends on the mats and not at the mall and the best part is that it is all by his choice. Ivey League MMA has opened up a whole new world for him and he has finally found the passion that drives him.
So does everyone need to or want to make this kind of commitment..of course not! We have a younger son that is mildly autistic with some learning disabilities. He sat on the sidelines the entire time watching his big brother train and compete and even though he wasnt an official student, everyone treated him like an honorary member of the Ivey League family. Well a few months ago, he said I want to do MMA too. No brainer, we signed him up! Now he trains alongside his big brother and has even started competing a bit. But my point is, for him its something that keeps him busy a few days a week and he doesnt train nearly at the level of his big bro, but he is still getting all of the physical and behavioral benefits from the program. So whether your child is looking to be the next world champion or wants to work out a few times a week to learn self-defense and make new friends, Ivey League Mixed Martial Arts in Annapolis, MD is a place for everyone and I mean everyone here.
Moms and dads, dont worry, there is something there for you too. One of the owners/coaches Ms. Teresa noticed that so many of the moms were sitting night after night watching their kids train during the week; why not give them something to do. She formed a Womens Boot camp Program for the ladies of Ivey League and my wife signed up without hesitation. She has since made a whole new group of friends and has regained her self-confidence and has learned some pretty handy self-defense tactics. Not to mention has shed some pounds and toned up in a way that no treadmill or step aerobics class has been able to do for her. Since then, she has been invited into the advanced Muay Thai program and we get to train together.
Yes, even I got hooked on the program. I decided that it was time to take control of my health and get back into shape. So I joined the Adult Muay Thai or Kickboxing program while my wife was doing Bootcamp and now we train together. The first day I took class, I couldnt make it through my work out. I was out of breath and sweating like a maniac. But Master Danny pushed me through it and I am thankful for it. I now am able to do things I wasnt able to do last year and I am now training in the advanced program as well. I have lost almost 50 pounds and have regained my health back. Plus my wife and I get to work out together. Great couples therapy by the way!
So whether youre training to be a champ, making the plunge to get back in shape, or simply looking for something for your child to do, Ivey League is the place to be. Its not like family for us, it IS family for us. We love it and are so thankful that we found this place. Two super fantastic thumbs up!

I guess you could say that the original meeting when very well since I have been training about 2-3x/week at Ivey League MMA since 2011. This is a first class place where you will learn as much as you want since other folks working out here range from complete novices to professional fighters. The owner Danny Ives and his staff have all the experience necessary from training, competing and winning at all levels of martial arts (MMA, Jiu Jitsu, etc). He has great teaching/coaching skills and knows how to get the best out of each person. He constantly has top level coaches and fighters come in from all over the U.S. to pass on their experience to the folks training here. One of the many great things about Ivey League MMA is how helpful everyone is at helping you learn. You won't find folks with and quot;bad attitudesand quot; here. The training is all conducted in a controlled environment so you aren't going to be and quot;beat upand quot; by the experienced folks here. In fact, if you are interested in learning, the most experienced folks will gladly help you out so you can improve your skills. Now that I have been here for over 2 years I now help out the less experienced folks. No one ever asked or required me to help other members, it is just the way it is at Ivey League - a tremendous learning atmosphere.
Since I have been at Ivey League I have had the opportunity to work with nearly all of the coaches at least a few times. I haven't run into a bad one yet. They all all enthusiastic and very skilled. They also receive training here at Ivey League so they can effectively teach classes of any size. While I mainly focus on Muay Thai (kickboxing), I have also taken classes in conditioning, wrestling, Jiu jitsu and MMA. In addition I have also observed many other classes here at Ivey League (even the kids classes). Since 2011 I have had countless discussions with Danny, Theresa, the other coaches and numerous members so in my time here I have an excellent perspective on Ivey league MMA. If there were cracks I would have seen them. This place is first class from top to bottom. I would highly recommend anyone interested in trying martial arts to check out Ivey League MMA.
About the kids classes. It is really impressive how much the kids thrive here at this program. I have personally seen kids start out very shy and not in the best shape transform into confident and fit youngsters over a relatively short period of time. Of the numerous kids classes I have seen (while waiting for my classes to start), it is very apparent they are having fun but also working hard. It is very impressive and since I have an 8yr old daughter, I look forward to her attending classes here one day.

I don't use it much myself but my daughter and wife use it and I know my daughter particularly likes the aerobics classes and my wife was high on the spinning classes. They have a good range of equipment, good instructors and good programs.

It doesn't seem like a good trade off to risk hearing loss for cardiovascular benefits, but that is what happens with you do spinning. If fitness is what Premier Fitness is marketing, that should be considered. Decibals over 85 cause hearing loss. I measured the decibels in the spinning class as maintained between 95 and 105. I wear ear plugs, but they are foam and not effective enough unless I compress them i.e. put my fingers in my ears, compressing the ear plugs. I think it would be innovative to have spinning classes where the music provides a beat but doesn't damage hearing. The new manager does seem to want to improve the facility.

I've been with them since they opened and I found their staffs to be very professional and courteous. The services they offer are comprehensive. I've used different trainers and they've always been good. They are a little pricey, 80$ a month, but you don't have to pay any extras for classes.

What he likes about them is they're laid back and there's always room in the weight room and it has a studio feel to it. It's a nice place for couples to work out in. The facility is very new and clean. The staff is approachable and he recommends their facility to others.

Their prices are reasonable. I like their hours. They have everything that I wanted, the classes and equipment. It is not crowded. They have got pretty good trainers there. It is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on weekends, they open at 7.

I used them for 8 or 10 years but I don't go any more because of arthritis. I was very pleased and I think the owner, Sue Schmidt, is a wonderful teacher. She has enlarged her business now to the point where she has other people who help her teach classes in things like yoga, meditation and Pilates; really a wide spectrum of offerings. I would recommend her because she is a great teacher and will use them again in the future.
