Electrician reviews in Adamstown

I found Kolb Electic/Frederick via HMS warranty.  They performed all that needed to be done, very well.  Lew, the manager, is really great to work with as well.
Most recently, my AC circuit breaker tripped.  I called them first to see what they thought it might be.  They came out right away (the next day - first appt available).  The tech replaced it and all has been well.

The technician was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and professional. He called as he was heading our way, and his call came within 2 hours of our placing a call to the company and talking to the owner about our problem. We had a power surge from an electrical storm and half our house was affected. We couldn't solve the problem by flipping the fuses. The technician fixed things for us, and we are quite please. We will happily use this company again.

*Edit I'll leave the original review at the bottom as I'm not sure if it's a violation of TOS to completely erase it.

Jeremy contacted me personally and apologized for dropping the ball, as it turns out, he had a family issue to deal with.   Congrats on the little one!

Anyway, as I mentioned in my previous review Jeremy really seemed to know his stuff and based on that and his explanation of what happened I gave Hydrotech/Illuminata a second chance.  We couldn't be happier with this decision.

    1) These days not everyone knows how to apologize (even if it was a misunderstanding more than an actual error), but he did so and was up front and shared way more than he had to.  That to me speaks to character.

    2) We had all the "big" guys come out for estimates. Jeremy spent the most time, gave the most detail and offered the best product.

    3) Value. Look at the total dollar amount we spent, it's not cheap, but compared to the other companies who were actually at the same price point, we got a lot more. Sprinklers have about 10 zones, rain sensor, digital control box in the garage, multiple types of heads depending on area to be covered.  The lighting is simply stunning.  The fixtures used are gorgeous, Jeremy went into detail on which fixtures he thought would be ideal for the style of our home and why (nobody else bothered).  They not only cover all the areas we wanted, but can be set to come on at sunset or any other time (the wifi enabled box knows the lat and long for where it's located and calculates sunset/sunrise based on that data).  And there's an app for that!  The lights are controllable and programmable via cell phone. I can not only turn each on individually, but control what percentage of power I want it to output.

They also stand behind their work, the warranty provided covers everything top to bottom and that's worth quite a bit too.

Doing both projects at once saved money, because much of the electrical wiring was able to be run at the same time as the sprinkler lines were dug.  There's no outsourcing for Hydrotech / Illuminata their crew is their crew, not some other company they subcontract out to.

    4) Speaking of the crew, we'd literally just had quite extensive landscaping done the day before they came to install the sprinkler system.  They managed not to not damage a single flower in the new beds, which is impressive considering they had to dig and lay the pipes right through the area.  The guys were all friendly and courteous and worked nonstop with great care for our property.

In a nutshell, if you want the best all around you'll want to give Jeremy and Hydrotech a call.  There are only a few ways to really critique a company.  One is to write a review here, which I did in both cases and the other is to me what really counts and that's with your wallet.  We all work too hard to make the money, there's nothing worse than spending it and regretting it.  Get lots of estimates from the who's who on Angie's.  I'd be shocked if you too didn't make the same decision we made and go with Hydrotech / Illuminata.

Pictures to follow of not only the beautiful design came up with, but the custom installation of the power boxes for the sprinkler control and the lighting control.

    * The review that follows is here so that you can see my initial impression. I didn't want to sugar coat anything or change it now that I'm a VERY satisfied customer.  Other providers should take notes on how to properly handle a problem that arises.  Sometimes how you handle a negative situation is as important as doing top notch work.  In the end it convinced me they deserved my business.

Jeremy was supposed to come out earlier in the week, but had to reschedule. No big deal. Friday the 22nd, he showed up exactly on time and took about 30 mins walking around my property discussing options for both irrigation and lighting (their sister company is Illuminata for lighting).  He really seemed to know his stuff and gave a lot of great options when it came to the lighting (sprinklers are more straight forward it seems).   After he did one final walk around without me, he said he'd have a detailed estimate to me possibly that night or more likely Monday.  I waited until that Thursday to contact he and he assured me I'd have it by the end of the day. I still don't have it.

I have to say, I'm really disappointed, as I felt the initial impression Jeremy gave of Hydro-Tech was a very good one, but if I can't even get them to give me a proposal on a $10k or so project that's definitely a red flag for me.   I'm certainly not going to hound someone to take that much money from me when there are other companies out there to do the job.  I guess business is booming to the point where $10,000 projects aren't worth getting back to a potential client about.  Congratulations on being that successful.

Called and got voicemail, left message and was almost immediately called back. Told them what I needed done, was given the estimate and they put me on the schedule for 7am, Friday. To me it's a good sign when you're promptly called back and an exact dollar figure estimate is quoted.

Friday, at pretty much exactly 7 a.m. Jason showed up to do the install. He took off his shoes before coming in, was friendly and got right to work. He got both switches installed and working properly in under an hour. Z-Wave switches aren't as easy as regular switches as they require a neutral wire. I wasted a couple hours of my own time trying to do it, but clearly I should have called Ercole Electric right from the start. It's not even 8.a.m. and I'm already writing the review, so that says something.

The price was more than fair, and from here on out when I have electrical work to do I'll be giving them a call.

Not impressed! I called for an estimate for installing a small, 6 circuit breaker transfer switch to my home's main circuit breaker box for emergency backup power from a portable 6k generator.   The estimate was $600, which seemed high for such a small job, but the kicker was they wouldn't test the installation for proper functioning with the portable generator.  When I explained this project was for EMERGENCY BACKUP POWER, and how I would I know if their install would function correctly during a critical power outage, he basically told me I was on my own.   What person would hire a company to do half a job?  Why would I get a transfer switch installed that may, or may not be wired correctly to run with my portable generator?    The safety and comfort of my family is too important to me to hire these guys.

Started with an onsight inspection and cost estimate from George in September 2012.  I selected GSW over four estimates, George was the most responsive and reasonably priced. I signed a contract and gave George a deposit to start work.  Then the job hit the skids! Due to no fault of George.  It was necessary for George to coordinate disconnecting the power by Potomac Edison and a electrical permit  was also necessary from Frederick County.  George did keep me in the loop on the status of the shut off date from power company.  Unfortunately, it took many months for George to get a firm date from power company. Once George received the shut off date he immediately notified me via email.  Finally on 1/11/2013 the work was completed.  George and crew did a fantastic job, had power back on in my home in less than 2 hours!! GREAT JOB, GREAT SERVICE!!!!

He was very nice, courteous, professional and helpful. He was very generous with his advice and explained how he would do it. We really liked his whole attitude. I would rate him highly and would use him in the future, if necessary.
