Called Jon at 8:30 at night - explained the situation and he came at 7:30 in the morning to assess the situation.  Clearly explained several options from complete roof replacement which needs to be done someday- to skylight removal and partial roof replacement and new rubberized roofing of the area near the skylight .  That was more in my price range so I opted for that - He gave me an estimate of 1500.00.  His final charge was 150.00 lower than his estimate.  He and one worker did this work in 1-2 days.  I asked him if he would also remove an old gutter and useless awning which was separate from the needed job.  He said he would come back within the week and remove it along with any other debris I wanted removed.  He did just that at no extra charge.  Absolutely would and probably will hire him again.  Since I was expecting to be charged 1500.00 I left him a generous tip.

This is an 1897 Victorian 8 room 'cottage' w/much original equipment and built-in features. Items, for ex., cabinets, were custom-built so today's mass-produced items didn't fit.  This required creative thought and design on Sam's part to figure out how to marry new to old while maintaining the harmony and beauty of the original plan.  For ex., he went to at least 4 sources to try to find wood wainscot rather the plastic composite more readily available, after 3 different plans for saving the original would not work. He had to deal w/an owner, me, who groaned in pain when some of these original features could not be saved.  He worked hard to preserve what he could within my budget.  For ex., the claw foot tub was re-glazed rather than replaced (one that size would not even have been able to be brought into the bathroom now).

The original damage occurred during a period when others also had damage, so delays occurred because workers were not available.  In addition, Sam had to orchestrate a large number of subcontractors and other workers.  To date over 40 separate individuals have been working in or on my house.  With so much repair required, prioritization of sub-projects is a priority to plan from the beginning as Sam did, while also being flexible enough to address unexpected issues.

As walls were opened up, such unexpected problems were encountered (ex. a carpenter ant nest requiring some rebuilding there) or were created (for ex., damage to a water pipe which led to a major replacement project).  I did not expect the number of detours to repair items that were not part of the original damage.  Also when something is opened up, it has to be repaired to current code standards, again requiring additional work that I had not anticipated.  (I did learn that variances to code can be obtained in limited situations.)

Do anticipate that you may have to leave the house.  For ex., while the water and sewer lines were being repaired, I had to be out for several weeks since the water was shut off then even though they did try to avoid that.

I am so grateful to Sam, his crew, and subcontractors who have been working on this long and involved project!

We got a full roof replacement with On Top Roofing, and had an excellent experience! Tim and his team were very responsive. The office manager was really great about contacting me right back, getting us scheduled in for an estimate, keeping me updated on times for work. They also were able to get us in this season, even though they were fully booked. Super great since we had leaks and didn't want to go all winter with them. Tim did the estimate himself and the price was fair and within range of other quotes. We opted for a rubber roof on our back dormer. Rain delayed work getting done for a day, but they made sure the roof was watertight before rain set in, and came back to finish up the next day. I loved that they were able to send contracts and relay messages via email, made it simpler for us

With the ridiculous amount of snow we have been having our roof was piled high, and we had enormous icicles hanging from the rafters. These guys did a great job clearing it all. It was amazing to watch them work. Also amazing was that they took the time to explain how ice dams develop, and what steps we can take to avoid it getting this bad going forward.
I was particularly impressed with the clean up after the snow was removed. In fact - they left it better than it was when they arrived :)

I live in a two-story duplex in Worcester and last winter we had a lot of snow, causing a minor ice dam / leak in the master bedroom. ?I called the company, needing snow removal fast to prevent further damage and leaking. ?They responded quickly and stated they could come by the next day. ?I asked if the guys could wait until I was home in the afternoon to do the job, so I could supervise the job and point out where the ice dam was located. ?The operator told me that was impossible. ?The next day, I came home, the snow was removed off my roof, but they also removed snow from my neighbor's roof. ?I called the company, they told me they had 6 guys at my house for 1 hour and since each worker gets paid an hourly rate, the bill was $600. ?This seemed unreasonable to me, 6 guys to remove snow from my tiny duplex front-side roof-top, an area measuring 5 ft x 8 ft? ?Also paying for my neighbor's snow removal if unacceptable. ?I discussed this with the secretary / dispatch person, she got very angry, and was unresponsive to my complaints. ?She ended the phone call by stating she was sending me a bill and hung up. ?A couple days later, I got an letter from the company containing a single receipt -> they billed my credit card on file. ?Nothing else was in the letter, no bills, no thank-you, nothing, just the receipt.
