Tile Installation reviews in Westwood

I highly recommend Davie Mac tile. Davie did a meticulous job tiling our mudroom, powder room and backsplash. He was knowledgeable and paid great attention to detail. When preparing to tile our mudroom, he laid out the tile in two different directions to help me decide which looked best. It's the first thing that people see when they walk in the house and they are always commenting on how great it looks. He also tiled our powder room and backsplash with marble and did a fabulous job. He is also pleasant and polite.

Bill Germaine and his team were incredibly hard working. Even when it was 95 degrees plus, they were up on the roof in full sun doing what they had to to get the job done - and what a wonderful job they did for us! Our new dormer is complete with skylights and lots of closet space. The new bathroom looks like something out of a high-end resort we could never afford to stay at. Shouts out to Vinnie, the foreman, who was always willing to bend over backwards and go the extra mile to make us happy. Also to Francesco, the tile man, who truly created an individualized tile masterpiece for us. I highly recommend these guys!

All in all, very well. It was difficult to get everyone and everything ordered, delivered, installed, and "up and running" on time. The delays we experienced were NOT contractor related ...but rather due to the high-end imported bathroom fixtures (which took forever to arrive from Germany) and delays by the town inspectors. The GC (Dermot) was understanding and patient and dealt w/ every "surprise" as though he'd expected it! He had good ideas and made excellent suggestions for improvements which relieved our concerns and answered our questions. The Royal Team demonstrated different capability levels. If a mistake was made a call went out to the GC and it was corrected ASAP. The town inspectors found no deficits at the final inspection. In summary: We were exceptionally happy w/ the lead plumber (David) who was experienced and proficient w/ fixtures from Germany and Switzerland. A second plumber and his apprentice were less comfortable w/ the higher-end items and installations. Mistakes were made. We were compensated for the mistakes. No argument, no questions asked. (That plumber did not stay on our job until the completion.) The team of 5 electricians were very good. We found that we needed new electrical work done from the roof top to the cellar. Nothing was up to code in "this old house". . It's perfect now. The duo installing the tiles were EXCELLENT. They installed 12"x24" polished Carrara marble tiles on all four walls... They measured three times and cut once! They did an equally excellent job installing the stone floor, They are highly skilled, exceptional workmen, and a credit to their profession. We started this job in November 2016 and weren't able to finish until mid-March 2017 ( the sink and vanity finally arrived from Germany.) It was a long job through the winter. Everyone made the effort to removed their shoes when they came in the house, protected the carpeting w/ adhesive plastic covering, cleaned up after themselves, and were as careful w/ everything as possible. The rest of the work and fine carpentry was done by the GC "himself". I think it's safe to say, "He's seen it all and done it all". It was a pleasure to work w/ Dermot and the team from Royal Contracting.

Joe was incredibly through and took a lot of pride in his work. Any time a concern came up while he was working of existing conditions and its affect on the tile, he took the time to tell me how he was going to work around it. He was a pleasure to work with and would recommend him for any tile job people are considering.

Ike was very responsive to my time constraints and was able to work with all customers concerned to be able to fit me into his schedule. He arrived on time, was professional, cleaned up extremely well-- left the area spotless which was not easy as he was cutting tiles etc. All in all I was very pleased and have already mentioned his good credentials to some of my friends.

B&B competitively bid the job with other contractors to win the contract. I, the owner, am an architect. My scrutiny over all aspects of the project, down to the smallest detail, were very extreme. We went slightly over budget, due to structural issues with the roof and some old insect damage to other areas of the framing. B&B worked with us to fairly add cost to cover any extras on the job. Overall, the final product, our home, is absolutely wonderful. Walking through each room, the details I designed are quite clearly visible and beautifully executed. My job as an architect is to see any problems in the construction. I am happy to say, that when I walk through my home, there is almost no issue to point out. That is an extremely difficult outcome to get. B&B’s stated goal was to make sure all work was well done and exactly what we wanted. The owner’s exact words were that he wanted us to be happy in our home. During construction the skill of the site foreman was quite evident. He built the majority of our home and we quickly became confident in the quality of his work. His demeanor throughout the project was professional and accommodating of our involvement on site. B&B’s owner said he always makes sure the home owners are involved throughout the process to ensure their needs are met. As the homeowner you should be involved. We worked directly with each of the trades as well to make sure everything was done per our drawings and direction. Locating each light fixture and switch were done together. If a switch was installed out of place they made sure to correct it. Sometimes a switch needed to be located differently because of stud placement. This was not always communicated well to us, but when discussed, if we desired an alternate location from their suggestion, we were always accommodated. Anything out of place to the design was always adjusted to our direction. The tile work is very well done. The installer was very particular and has great skill. He worked very hard to make the floors flat and level in all areas. We have ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tile done for floors and walls. They all came out beautiful. The amount of tile work was initially not fully understood, so it did take more time than anticipated. However the quality of the work is top notch, and worth the minor delay. The finishing of the walls (plaster and paint) and woodwork came out excellent. After each inspection of the work, if we found anything we were not completely satisfied with; the crew would come back and correct it to our satisfaction. We have several custom designed and built pieces of casework. This includes living room built-ins on both sides of the fireplace with lighting, mudroom bench, and bedroom window seat-bench. Again, the end result is our beautiful home.

This review is about 3 years overdue! Shortly after buying our c.1927 "forever home," we hired Paul to re-grout the ceramic tiled walls in our den. The grout was stained from years and grime, soot, and smoke and bringing them back to white with elbow grease simply was not going to happen. I met with Paul and he provided great advice and a reasonable bid to clean and re-grout the tile that was a little outside our budget. He suggested that we could save some money by cleaning the tile ourselves and then having him come in to do the grout work. I appreciated his flexibility and hired him to do the work. He gave me great advice on how to clean the tile properly (which products and methods he used) and then he came in to re-grout. Paul is a rare breed and true craftsman. I talked with him for a while as he set about his work. He has seen and done it all in the tiling business over the years. He has great insights into how tiling was done back in the 1920s and if you own an older home that needs tiling to be done or restored, he is the only person I would trust for the job. We have several more tiling projects we would like to do at our house over the next few years. And I know exactly who I'll be asking to do the job!

    • Peter was thorough and very professional.  I even had my painters commenting that they had never seen someone take such pride in cleaning carpets the way Peter does.  He meticulously cleaned every surface that was on the agreement.  He ran out of time on the first day and through the scheduling genius also known as Rick, I was able to get Peter back into the house the same week to finish the job.  My home smells clean and my dogs are no longer roaming the house trying to smell for the previous owner's dog.
    Thank you Rick and Peter!

Ryan is fantastic! He responded to my initial inquiry within minutes and after sending him a few pictures, he sent a quote that was much less than a quote I received from a different company. He responded promptly to emails prior to the scheduled work date and called me the night before to let me know that the actual cost would be about $50 dollars more because he needed to get a few more supplies - he wanted to make sure I was okay with that, which I thought was very thoughtful. When Ryan arrived at my house, he and his assistant got right to work and stayed all afternoon until the job was done. After about 5 hours of work, he even offered to touch up the caulk in our bathroom shower for no extra cost. I will definitely ask him to do more work in the future!

He carefully removed two broken tiles on our bathroom wall and then installed replacement tiles.   He was a very neat worker and removed all debris.  We would certainly use him again.
