    Kevin Otts is my go-to-guy for everything. He approaches all of my projects as if he were the owner and the money would come from his own pocket. I own a rental property. His recommendations always have quality and cost in mind. His work is superb - always done with great pride and professionalism.
    To give you an example: I am in Florida for the winter. I had a tenant that I inherited with the property when I bought it a year ago leave. I knew the apartment would need some work. I did not have to fly up to Wareham. I just called Kevin. While he was there painting and fixing closet doors, he noticed that the kitchen was incredibly dirty. He had a person come clean it for me. I know I can trust him to make me look good, but not take advantage of me financially.
    Kevin also roofed the front porch for me and replaced the back porch.
    And he is a nice guy, great personality, with a sense of humor.

    While the work and clean up were good, they sent only one person. Because of that, she could not do the first priority job that we had - or the second. The "deal" was for up to 6 hours of wallpaper removal. she left after about two hours. I asked her to do the three  walls in one room  that did not require moving a large piece of furniture. No. So I asked her to do the hallway and up the staircase. We paid to have it removed because we did not have a ladder big enough to reach the ceiling over the staircase. Again, she did not have a ladder either. so we settled on the master bedroom, in which we had moved all the furniture. Since she would not do the other areas I asked, I asked her to do two little entryways on either end of the kitchen. She then informed me that the deal was up to six hours for one room only. I went back to my printout of the service. There was no mention of it being confined to one room. Essentially, we paid to have her do a room we could have managed on our own.
    Had she been more flexible, as I was when she told me she didn't have the proper crew to do the job as promised, I would have considered using them for some larger projects. We took the deal in order to see if they were a company we could work with.We have a very old house in need of a lot of work. However, this was not the case. I can't afford to pay for a job half done, or not done - even with a "deal".

    Because the property is on the water and had restrictions as too how we could proceed, Parkwood builders( Brett and Andy) were very knowlegable of the FEMA restrictions along with all building codes. They were of great importance in helping us get our project started.

    All of the work was done in a systematic manner and they kept us updated at all times as to were they were in the project. In addition, they were very honest and always kept the site neat. Overall I have to say their work is solid and they use quality materials. They take pride in their work and take it seriously. Because this project took many twists and turns, the contract did not reflect the actual work that was done. this may be a problem to some however, in the end it worked out very well for us and we are estatic at the overall results. I would hire them again for sure.

    Bennett Painting Plus
    The cathedral ceiling had soot spots from a pellet stove and required a professional.  We typically handle all the paining in our home, but it was too big a job and we didn't have the proper equipment.  So I went on Angie's List and read through some reviews.  I stopped when I got to Bennett's and called them up.
    Faith Bennett called me back promptly and I think they were out the next day, arrived on time when they said they would.  They said they would provide an estimate by that night and sure enough it was in my in-box e-mail.  The estimate was very reasonable.  I knew when I met Faith and her husband that they were not interested in screwing me over.  These are average people, working hard at a family business in a very tough economy.   They seem to love what they do and in an instant I knew they could handle the job with ease.  They were very confident, but not overly so.  They saw what needed to done and wanted to help me.  I think they could have asked for more money.  I think I would have paid more, but I was very happy to get an estimate that I felt favored my bottom line as opposed to theirs.  I appreciate that.  We're all struggling these days.
    We scheduled a date to do the job that was convenient for me.  But then the blizzard hit.  Faith called the night before the work was to be done to reschedule.  As we were all still struggling to get power back in our homes, I knew we would need a reschedule, but Faith had said she would call the night before they were coming and did so.
    We rescheduled for this past Wednesday.
    Faith called Tuesday night to confirm the work and to make sure both they and us were organized and ready.
    I left the front door unlocked, left a check, patted the cats goodbye, and went to work.  I'm not thrilled with the idea of leaving "strangers" in my house alone, but I instantly had a good feeling about Faith.  I guess I had faith.
    I came home to a brand new living room.  Now the rest of the house looks like *&%$ because they did such a stellar job.  I honestly cannot believe it.  The ceiling does not look like it was painted.  It looks like a new ceiling was put in.
    The two walls they painted look gorgeous.  We changed the paint color on one of them and even Faith remarked at what a lovely shade of blue it was and how wonderful it came out.  
    Faith called me around 7 p.m. Wednesday to check to make sure everything had dried OK and to see how I felt about their work.  I feel like they earned their money.  I feel like I have a new living room.  I feel like someone else would not have done as good a job.  I feel very comfortable with the amount of money that I spent.  I feel like someone else would have charged more.  I feel like I will call Faith the next time I am in need of a great painter.  
    Faith and her husband are animal lovers.  I mention this because I have cats and dogs.  This makes things tricky when you have "strangers" doing home improvement projects.  Though we removed the dogs from the house for the day, the cats were left at the house.  When I got home from work, all five cats were snuggled up in beds, couches, chairs as though not a thing had happened and as though it was a regular day.
    That tells me that the project went calm and that the Bennett's are true professionals.  Faith makes this easy.  They've obviously been doing this a long time and are very comforatable at it.  There were no surprises, no stress, no nothing.  Just a wonderful job well done.  Thank you very much.

    Do All Handyman
    Hiring Neil Toland was a bad experience, proving the old adage that you get what you pay for. I found Neil on Angie?s list. Most of his reviews were good, but a few raised red flags. These flags were no show/no call, not returning calls; incomplete or unsatisfactory work. I noticed he was unlicensed and uninsured. I chose to ignore the red flags because I was short of time and money. What a mistake! Every one of the problems listed above occurred in my house. I hired Neil early January. I had to get my house ready to list. Neil gave me an estimate for specific work to be done by a specific time. There were eight items on the estimate. (Only four were ever completed.) The payment was by thirds. There were problems from day one. He caused damage to my kitchen counters and marble-topped table. He broke a custom-fitted wood shade and a mug with sentimental value. (He replaced the shade and mug.) No one is all bad or good. In the kitchen Neil did some parts of the work well and I was pleased. But I was too distressed about the damage and the insufficient cleanup to maintain much confidence in him. Time was flying by. Neil did some things I?d never seen before, like painting walls, putting up unfinished trim, and then staining the trim, which messed up the walls. On a bathroom door frame he put up a broken piece of wood instead of replacing it. At this point I had to get Neil out of my house. I was upset about the no-show days (he blamed them on his wife?s illness, but they started a month before that), the sloppy work, and the mess I came home to on the days he showed up. I had paid two of the three payments, but he had only done half the work. He had done a few things not on the original estimate which I agreed to pay for separately. I told Neil that I had run out of time and needed to get my house on the market as is. I then hired someone I found on the list who was professional, licensed and completed in three days all the work Neil didn?t finish in two months. (See my review on F. Kempes General Contractor.) I paid more for the work because it was high quality. Again, you get what you pay for. At this point Neil decided to sue me because he felt I had not paid him enough. Long story short: he took me to court; after two hours of mediation we settled. I paid him less than he wanted but still more than he deserved, just to get it over with and move on. Please learn from my mistakes. Don?t try to do it on the cheap, because your house is too important. Hire someone professional, licensed and honest, get everything in writing, and watch out for those red flags.
