Siding reviews in Waltham

  • I had a bad experience with Three Sons. They were contracted to re-side my entire house and to put railings on my front porch. Some of the issues were: - The contract called for Azek columns. That wasn't done; instead, they wrapped PVC around a post. - In two of the four columns installed on my front porch, the top trim pieces were so badly aligned that I could stick my hand into the post inside the column - The bottom of the columns were not caulked. The columns were wrapped around an 4x4 fir post (untreated) so water seepage is a concern. - The doorbell was re-installed with nails (just plain sloppy workmanship!) - The workers caused a 2.5"x3.5" hole in a board of my deck. I had to ask them to fix it - wouldn't that be standard procedure? - Someone lied to me: a worker was scheduled weeks in advance to come on a Monday at 8am. I confirmed it multiple times. At 10:30 that day, the receptionist said he was driving in a downpour and turned back. He came a few days later and said he had no idea about Monday's appointment, and didn't drive to my house. What?? - They didn't install the water table (a white piece at the bottom of the siding) completely. Or maybe they did. The same receptionist from the other issue said the missing piece was an oversight since it is the last step. The person who came to fix it said the final piece of the water table couldn't be installed unless I wanted major work to redo it. And, if that work was done, it would probably affect the integrity of the siding. He was willing to do what I wanted "to make me happy", but at that point, I was too tired to argue more. I just hope all the work that I can't see is water tight, but I've lost all peace of mind about that. - I could go on, but as I said, I'm tired and just want this behind me. You wore me down, Three Sons. You win. Good for you.

  • I had a small fire damage on the building roof and the siding was tired and window trims are rotten. Fabio repaired my roof immediately. He and his team did an excellent job redo the entire siding, window trims with very fair price. At the front of the building, we discovered that there was a half-moon padiment in the past. Fabio is very accomodating for me to order the right side padiment before resume the siding job. He also added 4" commercial grade downspouts for me at the side and back of the building.

  • We called Fabio during the early March storm when winds tore a large chunk of siding loose. He very kindly came by and arranged to remove the flapping siding before the next storm could make it worse. He and his team eventually repaired the damage and did a great job. We would definitely hire him again.

  • Great. The work was done quickly and professionally; debris was cleaned up thoroughly. Roof and cheek wall/window looks so much nicer than before, and no more leaks! (And the gutters drain properly again!) Owner (John) stopped by both days to make sure work was going to plan. We received three bids for the job, all very similar, all from A-rated companies on Angie's List, but John's was the most generous (included the most footage of decking replacement at no extra cost, for instance). Of the three, he was the only one who volunteered of his own accord to inspect the roof from both the top (via ladder) and underneath (via attic), which I respected! He personally worked with his foreman on the second day to deal with some tricky gutter-hanging issues, and he was willing to spend a long time discussing options for siding replacement/painting, even though I told him this is not something we'd be able to do for some time (like, years). He also noticed that I had overpaid and sent a refund. It was a small amount on a large bill, and I think many businesses would have overlooked it, and I would not have noticed myself, so I really appreciate the honesty and professionalism. I would absolutely hire this company again for roofing/siding work.

  • It went extraordinarily well. Marco Polo's crew was very professional and technically skilled. They began work as soon as we signed the contract and completed the job within the timeframe we were quoted. The finished product looks amazing. They may not be the most inexpensive contractor you will find, but we got what we paid for: quality work, exceptional service, and an on-time completion. We would hire them again and would highly recommend them to anyone who asked.

  • Matt reacted fast to my call and came to look at the house in a few hours. His proposal to address the problem was very professional and the best in term of pricing. I needed to have the repair done in a 2-3 weeks before my vacation. I agreed to a flexible schedule but asked him to call me before he do the job. He called in a few days and informed me that the job was done. I wanted to be present during the job and since he did not call in advance this is the only reason why I gave him only 4 stars on punctuality. Otherwise, the job was done very clean and professional. He modified initial proposal and there were a few points, which I was concerned of at that time. Now, after a year, I can see that my concerns were not serious. I would hire Matt again and highly recommend him as a polite and skillful contractor.

  • Without a doubt the worst professional experience of our lives. Project took 3+ months to complete. We were quoted 4 weeks, then he said lets schedule it for 5 "to be safe" and then the contract he wrote up actually put in 6 weeks. In the 13 weeks of "work", he or at least one member of his crew showed up fewer than half the business days, usually just 1-2 people. This had nothing to do with the project and everything to do with mismanagement and overbooking. We stopped tracking the lies and broken promises after 3 weeks because it became too exhausting. We've twice had subcontractors come to our house since work was completed to talk to us because he refuses to pay them (ironically, one of the subcontractors was one of the few work teams to be decent). We left our info with the subcontractors' lawyers and have given statements and promises that we will fully cooperate if needed. This prompted us to reach out to our own lawyer and prep in case we ran into trouble (thankfully not, which is why I'm finally posting this). The work itself just OK. We're relatively happy, but we are now getting quotes to fix a number of dodgy issues. Very poorly done corners. Did not put moulding under one roof line. Failed to put leaf guards in some of the gutters. Gutters already sagging. Having massive ice dam issues this winter for the first time EVER (even the much worse apoloypse winter 2 years ago we had no ice dams), Downspouts crooked. Did not arrange seams as requested. Damaged brand new ($8,000) patio door and new steel bulkhead door. Trampled virtually every landscaping plant. Left garbage everywhere. Did not clean *at all* until the very end. Left tons of debris in neighbor's yard. Ripped every screen (literally every one). Still finding nails on the ground. Had to have one section redone because they did not space the siding as we indicated on our contract and it looked terrible. Another note: did not follow legal requirements for safe removal of lead paint, despite the fact that he made a big deal of this when quoting the price. We have reported this to the MA EPA and shared the photos and videos of the work (after he didn't show up on our contracted start date without letting us know, then became aggressive when questions, I became worried we were in for a legal fight, so I literally documented the entire project with hundreds of photos and dozens of videos of the work, plus video security footage). I could go on, but I've been much happier since getting this garbage behind us and I hope to never see or hear from this place ever again. I've never been so angry at another human being for being so unprofessional, unreliable, and dishonest. For now we are not going forward with legal action, but we have a very hefty file with hundreds of photos and documentation of broken promises, breaches of contract, and other shenanigans. If we have more problems or ever hear from this person again we'll probably go for it. I would not only say avoid this place, but perhaps avoid James Hardie altogether. They referred me to him. It's also not cheaper than doing a much nicer job with cedar and ceramic-like paint, esp if you scour a local lumberyard and wait for a decent sale.

  • I set up an appointment for 8:30am and took time off from work to be home. The night before the appointment, Paul called me from his cell phone and left a message asking if I needed the siding done right away because they were booked through the spring and he didn't want to waste his time coming out. I called back and left another message that we probably would be doing the siding in spring anyway. I did not receive another call back after that and so assumed he was coming at 8:30. When he did not show up, I called back his cell number that he had called me from himself. When he answered, I asked if he would still be making the appointment and he angrily said that this was his cell phone and he's in the middle of something. This is during the time he had an appointment to meet me AND it was the number he had left me a message from, and yet he is acting as if I am invading his privacy. 5 minutes later, the woman from the office called me and said it was her fault and she should have called me sooner. This is completely unprofessional. Apparently this company does not seem to care about earning new business. Even if they are very skilled in the work they do (I wouldn't know), the way you treat your customers and potential customers speaks volumes.

  • Excellent work!  Washed everything!  We didn't know how badly it needed to be done until after we saw the results! Night and day!  Our siding, deck and fence were so clean afterards

  • My wife and I first met Angelo from Better Built Construction, when we were taking bids from approx. 3 different companies.  Angelo was prompt to return phone calls, and showed up for our appointment on time.

We received his bid and he was approx. $10,000 lower than the other two bids we received.  We contacted references, and received very good responses from them.

We accepted his bid, and the work started on schedule and was done according to schedule and to our specifications.  We are very pleased with the quality of his work and would not hesitate to recommend Better Built Construction to friends and family.
