The process could not have gone better. John gave me excellent ideas and when the project was finished it exceeded my expectations. John began and finished on time and always kept me posted on the work being done. His finished work was perfect. I am so happy with my new living space.

    KAKS Home Improvement Services LLC
Before you read any further, you will see that I previously reviewed KAKS and gave them an outstanding rating. I used to be an enthusiastic and ardent supporter. They finished my basement almost 8 years ago and then added a bathroom a couple of years later. Both jobs were done well and we really were very happy with the work. So what has changed you ask? Well the customer service years later has degraded significantly. We recently did a project where we had to remove one of the panels to run water lines. I figured no big deal, the team at KAKS is great and I'll pay them to reinstall it. Emailed the company, no response. Emailed the sales team, magically a response until they learned I was looking for service (which I clearly stated I was happy to pay for). The response, we'll get back to you to schedule something. Weeks go by and nothing. So I call the owner. He answers and assures me he can help up but call him next week because he's in the car. No problem. I call next week. Goes to VM but the mailbox is full. I wait 2 days and call back. Nothing. So I send a text message (which I generally avoid as a matter of doing business but alas, I am at my wits end) no response. This last stage is before the week of July 4th. So I let the week of July 4th pass because a lot of people take vacation during this week. I call today (Wed 7/11) and right to VM it goes. Again, VM full so I can't leave a message. So I'm stuck with panels that I don't know how to reinstall on my own and KAKS is completely unresponsive. To potential customers, be aware, unless you are handy or have another contractor to lean on, you could find yourself in this same situation. As I said, happy with the product but discouraged that the company doesn't seem to want to help (on a paid basis) former customers put their home back together. Update(7/18/2018): After posting this review, the owner contacted me and scheduled the repair work. The carpenter arrived on time today and completed the work very well. I am thankful for the response and have adjusted my review rating to account for the follow-up and correction of my problem.

    A Cosco & Son LLC
I can't say enough about the amazing job Frank and his team did for us - he was professional, extremely responsive and reasonably priced. The work was completed on time, and way sooner than we had originally anticipated a job of this size taking. Frank responded to emails within a couple of hours, took the time to explain everything and answer our questions and his team cleaned up at the end of every day. We were extremely impressed with the job his team did and will absolutely hire them again for any future work that we have. I cannot recommend A. Cosco enough.

    DesignWorks Company
I would give DesignWorks my highest recommendation, and they are at the top of my list of contractors to call for future work:
Paul is excellent to work with.  He is extremely knowledgeable and detailed, giving us a high degree of confidence that we'd know exactly what we were getting and paying for.  He and his crew delivered on every promise; there were no surprises.  They were on time, cleaned up after themselves, no loud music, smoking, course language, etc.  We have young children so this was important to us; we felt totally comfortable with the kids when they were around.  The workmanship was excellent, and we're very pleased with the new bathroom.
At one point we fell behind schedule due to some city inspectors (not his fault), but Paul worked on the weekend to make up the time.  In the end, we landed where he promised.  Several months after the job was complete, there were a few minor cracks in some grout due to settling; Paul came back - free of charge - to patch it up.  He even fixed up a few other things in the bathroom hallway (rehung a door that wasn't true, and fixed another that wouldn't latch); these were not part of the contract, and were done gratis.
For full disclosure, I would only note two downsides, neither are deal-breakers:
    (1) He was the most expensive of the contractors we had to quote the job (by about 15%).  He was candid about how he marked things up, and allowed us to source many of the materials ourselves to save some money, but it was still expensive.  Those on a very tight budget may be priced out, but it is arguable that the peace of mind and quality is worth it.
    (2) I was a little disappointed in the electrical sub-contractor.  While all the work was done very well, he neglected to clean up some wiring in the basement.  It was not worth calling him back to do it himself, but disappointing given how well everything else went.
Professional, timely, high quality, helpful and detailed.  Definitely give DesignWorks a call for your next job!

    PW DiMasi Electric
These guys always do a great job.  Pete, the owner, stays on top of everything, and he has a knack for hiring people who do good work.  There are also always professional, friendly and easy to work with.
On more than one occasion, they have gone above and beyond to help me out and make sure things are right.  In one case, the general contractor for a project we were working on disappeared and Pete was instrumental in helping me clear some of the city inspections (like the smoke detectors) that the GC left hanging.
I know that sometimes people have trouble reaching Pete, and I know why.  I have personally never had that happen, so I gave them an A on responsiveness based on my own experience, but if you do have trouble getting ahold of them and you can afford to wait a week or two and try again, your patience will be rewarded.
The prices charged are reasonable: fair, but not low.  If you're determined to find the cheapest electricians in the area, I'm sure Angie's List can help with that but you're on the wrong page at the moment.  Since bad wiring can burn down my house with me inside, I'd rather skip the cheapest and get the best guys I can find.  These are them.

    SILMAC Construction Inc.
Joe and his crew were terrific and I would not hesitate to use them again. From the outset, he really listened to what we wanted to do, provided creative solution, and worked with us to find the best way to accomplish our goals--all the while keeping our budget in mind. His crew were very professional; they worked without disrupting the rest of the household, they cleaned up every day, kept noise to a minimum, asked us our opinions when they were unsure of how to proceed with an item of personal choice, and made the whole project so much less of a hassle than we though it would be. Joe was a perfect go-between, making sure that the work was being done the way we wanted and done to the highest quality standard. Everything I inspected--the wiring, the plumbing, the studs, the plasterwork, the trim--was just perfect. Real craftsmanship.
After the project was done, the results exceeded our expectations by quite a bit. He was ableto deliver on everything he promised and even did a bit more to make the final result really stunning.

    Bertola Custom Homes & Remodeling
We cannot say enough about the quality of the work! The crew was beyond excellent for each project. They accommodated our business schedule by working after hours during the evening & over the weekend. They took care of every single detail and kept the area impeccably clean. It was a nice surprise to walk into the office the following morning to see how much the office improved. They finished each project in a very short amount of time. On the custom desks in particular, we could not believe how fast they were able to turn these around. The finish was amazing. Bertola Custom Homes is top notch and would trust them with any work again. Highly recommended!

    Marcellos Design & Builders
Marcello came to do the estimate when our basement was completely bare concrete, with partially finished walls.  They were prompt and incredibly nice, asking what we wanted and helping guide us.  Subsequent to this we were provided a designer to work with to come up with exactly what we wanted.  This part of the process took quite a while, primarily due to our own time constraints and indecisiveness, but this did not dissuade Marcello at all.  When the design process was nearing completion Marcello began work on the french drain, with Marcello's Renovation workers moving everything we had stored in our basement out to the POD we rented for this purpose.
Upon completion of the french drain and after the design was complete, work was begun on the basement itself with constant communication with us.  We picked fixtures, hardware, flooring, colors, etc, and Marcello's Renovations and their subcontractors installed everything.
We are incredibly pleased with the results and Marcello's Renovations attention to detail.  The woodwork is beautiful and professional.   Marcello and Joey were both fantastically helpful and always willing to do what it took to ensure that we were 100% pleased with the results -- and we are.

Marcello's Renovations was highly recommended from my neighborhood last summer. We set up a meeting with Marcello to go over all of our Construction and Renovations ideas we had in mind and it was a very large list.Marcello shows up before the time in all our meetings  and the date/time to start the project.Begin of the project Marcello introduced Nilson the job site supervisor and carpenter. He is a nice person and JOB QUALITY WAS TOP NOT, very clean we were able to come home everyday  and our home was cleaner then we left in the morning.Marcello checked the job site every week keeping us updated  and asking us to call him if we had any concerns. We used  just call him in a minute he was calling us back to answer any question or concerns we had and make sure we were comfortable with the construction process.Marcello and he's supervisor use to ask us everyday if there was something that we dont like so he could make sure we were 110% happy with the entire project process.MR did a great job and made our dreams home come true from the begin untill the end of the Construction with high end quality.Unfortunately we had some problems with building inspectors shows up to several inspections, Marcello advised us before start the project and we totally undesrtood that it was out of Marcello's control.I will recommend MR for everyone that are looking for the Best to your home.No wonder why they are THE BEST BOSTON CONTRACTOR OF 2011 ON ANGIE'S LIST .If you are planning to hire Marcello's Renovations Please dont  think twice and do fast as you can because i am not sure if they will be available for 2012 or 2013.

    D&E Construction
Ergan and his crew were great to work with throughout the entire project.  They were prompt, courteous, clean and kept us informed.  But what my wife and I were most impressed with was the attention to detail in every aspect of the work that was done and the level of communication with us as the work progressed. As I am sure you can imagine, having structural joists repaired due to extensive termite damage in a historical house that was built in the 1800's had us a bit on edge.  Ergan put us at ease and went well beyond what I would consider "acceptable" (I used to be a general contractor).

We were so pleased with D&E that we are planning to have them do a bathroom remodel for us later this year.  Don't tell Ergan this, but after this experience, we won't even consider another contractor!  If you want quality work from a professional crew at a reasonable price, you should hire D&E.
