Deck Building reviews in Waltham

  • I had a bad experience with Three Sons. They were contracted to re-side my entire house and to put railings on my front porch. Some of the issues were: - The contract called for Azek columns. That wasn't done; instead, they wrapped PVC around a post. - In two of the four columns installed on my front porch, the top trim pieces were so badly aligned that I could stick my hand into the post inside the column - The bottom of the columns were not caulked. The columns were wrapped around an 4x4 fir post (untreated) so water seepage is a concern. - The doorbell was re-installed with nails (just plain sloppy workmanship!) - The workers caused a 2.5"x3.5" hole in a board of my deck. I had to ask them to fix it - wouldn't that be standard procedure? - Someone lied to me: a worker was scheduled weeks in advance to come on a Monday at 8am. I confirmed it multiple times. At 10:30 that day, the receptionist said he was driving in a downpour and turned back. He came a few days later and said he had no idea about Monday's appointment, and didn't drive to my house. What?? - They didn't install the water table (a white piece at the bottom of the siding) completely. Or maybe they did. The same receptionist from the other issue said the missing piece was an oversight since it is the last step. The person who came to fix it said the final piece of the water table couldn't be installed unless I wanted major work to redo it. And, if that work was done, it would probably affect the integrity of the siding. He was willing to do what I wanted "to make me happy", but at that point, I was too tired to argue more. I just hope all the work that I can't see is water tight, but I've lost all peace of mind about that. - I could go on, but as I said, I'm tired and just want this behind me. You wore me down, Three Sons. You win. Good for you.

  • Dalto and his team were extraordinarily professional. The project ran into a few stumbling blocks but he handled every issue with calm, confidence and above all, lots of communication. During the initial quote/proposal phase Dalto noticed several red flags in the original structure, and warned us that there was going to be an element of uncertainty with the project. Of all the contractors we spoke with he was the only one to speak candidly about what was needed to make the deck a pleasurable place to spend time in the summer. We decided to proceed and were shocked when the construction permit was pulled and we discovered that the existing deck had been built illegally by the previous owner and would not pass an inspection. There were some serious safety issues that had to be resolved ( as an example, they had to dig all new footings because the existing ones were not deep or wide enough to hold the weight of the deck). Throughout the process Dalto kept me informed about progress, schedules and timing. His team was incredibly hard working, efficient and polite. I never had to wonder where they were or what the status was. At the project conclusion we passed town inspection with flying colors. The end result is a BEAUTIFUL back deck for us to enjoy privately and a completely refreshed look at the front of the house with our new front porch. Dalto will always be my first call for any work that needs to be done. I've already referred him to 2 friends who have construction projects. I'm already thinking ahead to other projects for next year...

  • It went extraordinarily well. Marco Polo's crew was very professional and technically skilled. They began work as soon as we signed the contract and completed the job within the timeframe we were quoted. The finished product looks amazing. They may not be the most inexpensive contractor you will find, but we got what we paid for: quality work, exceptional service, and an on-time completion. We would hire them again and would highly recommend them to anyone who asked.

  • Fabio answered my initial call very quickly and sent me a quote within 24 hours after we discussed the project in person. BR Quality replaced the three stairs of my front porch and put in a new handrail, then repainted everything. The stairs were finished in one day and the painting was done on a second day. Fabio and all employees were nice and professional. Fabio communicated everything clearly and was quick to return my phone calls and emails. I highly recommend BR Quality and would hire this company again!

  • Horrible. We didnt go with Tom Curren because we never received a formal quote and they did not seem interested in our business. scheduling was good/easy but that was it. It was clear from the moment that Tom curren's estimator, Ernie, came that he did not have much interest in our business unless we wanted to completely replace our wood deck with composite. He ball parked the average price for composite decking at 15k. It's as if we were wasting his time even asking for a quote to replace the boards with wood. Next time if you don't need the work, dont waste the potential customers time. We had just started getting quotes for replacing the wood boards and didn't have a good idea of what exactly needed to be done and what the cost would be. Ernie had the nerve to ask me my budget and it wasn't because he was trying to help me out. I said 2k because it was none of his business what my budget was. That's an incredibly unprofessional question to ask someone. Why would I tell him my budget???? He was condescending and the whole visit left me very annoyed. He also said he would get in touch to discuss price but we never heard back. We are getting our deck repaired by someone else and for a much more reasonable price than 15k.

  • I set up an appointment for 8:30am and took time off from work to be home. The night before the appointment, Paul called me from his cell phone and left a message asking if I needed the siding done right away because they were booked through the spring and he didn't want to waste his time coming out. I called back and left another message that we probably would be doing the siding in spring anyway. I did not receive another call back after that and so assumed he was coming at 8:30. When he did not show up, I called back his cell number that he had called me from himself. When he answered, I asked if he would still be making the appointment and he angrily said that this was his cell phone and he's in the middle of something. This is during the time he had an appointment to meet me AND it was the number he had left me a message from, and yet he is acting as if I am invading his privacy. 5 minutes later, the woman from the office called me and said it was her fault and she should have called me sooner. This is completely unprofessional. Apparently this company does not seem to care about earning new business. Even if they are very skilled in the work they do (I wouldn't know), the way you treat your customers and potential customers speaks volumes.

  • They were difficult to schedule with despite me giving a number of options. We then agreed to schedule later in summer 2016 when it was a bit less busy, but I reached out twice and was not contacted. I find this unprofessional and disappointing. We went with another company to do the work

  • Excellent work!  Washed everything!  We didn't know how badly it needed to be done until after we saw the results! Night and day!  Our siding, deck and fence were so clean afterards

  • Our front porch and steps were very weathered, and we had Mike and his painter Eddie come out to assess the job. Mike looked at the two porch columns right away and we noticed they were badly rotted at the bottom, which we had not noticed on our own.
Mike was punctual about getting us a price quote, and working through a few revisions to the project. He was responsive about scheduling the work and about coordinating with the painters.
We are very pleased with the outcome of the project.

  • My finished porch is beautiful and I am very happy with it!  I thought I had a simple job to replace trim on a closed porch (covered with vinyl siding and trim board). When I found the posts were destroyed by carpenter ants, I called several places and Ken was the most responsive and provided the most detailed estimate so that I could understand what was being proposed.
Ken Jordan is just wonderful. He is very attentive and kept me apprised of progress and next steps. He even took the unneeded trim that I purchased, loaded on his truck, and returned it to the lumberyard for me. His team does very nice work with attention to detail and they kept the place neat and clean. I would absolutely hire them again!
