  • Dr. Yanovsky was very effective. She's not a super empathetic softy, but she listened patiently to everything I had to say and gave me excellent advice. She explored a variety of options with me. I followed her advice and found the treatment very effective. I would recommend her to others as a psychiatrist. If you want counseling/someone to listen, see a psychologist. But she is excellent at her job as a psychiatrist (focusing on medication).

  • First of all -- Angie's list is pushing hard for a review. Several urgent sounding "$20 gift card for cleaning up your account" emails led me to filling out this review.
The problem is .. this is a therapist. Angie's list wants a review immediately, but I have no idea how well it's going to work out yet. Might take a few months!
I will say, so far, it's going OK. We've met with the counsellor twice (not nearly enough time to review him!). The second meeting was better than the first. The first meeting had us giving very short bits of information about what's been going on, at which point he jumped immediately into diagnosis-speak. I thought diagnosis came prematurely. The 2nd meeting expanded on some of that diagnosis, in an intelligent and experienced way, and I immediately started warming up to him.
Looking forward to our next meeting but as far as effectiveness goes, that's TBD!

  • Took my mother to this doctor for leg pain... She was sent for a head MRI.
Had to call 2 weeks later to get results.  When we went for follow up appt, she did'nt know shewas having leg pain.  I told her that is what we were initially there for... Dr. Girgis always appeared tobe rushed and very tired. Felt rushed most visits.

  • I have met with Dr. Yanovsky four times. She used to see me concurrently along with a therapist, and after a year I no longer needed therapy, so now I just see her every three months to check in. I find her to be very approachable, warm, friendly, knowledgable, and kind. I recommend her without any reservations.

  • The office is small but it is fine. I barely interact with the staff and we've seen him twice. He prescribed nutritional supplements for my son in lieu of more typical medicines for his condition. I like him because the supplements work. His style is very laid back. He doesn't take insurance. I've never had to wait and he is available for appointments.

  • JFCS has a Parkinson's unit whose philosophy recognizes that this is a "family disease," involving caregiver(s) and extended families as well as patients. The initial conversation was a call in response to my email from the unit director, Nancy Mazonson. I learned a great deal just during that conversation. I subsequently have worked with a geriatric care manager who is a licensed social worker. She has assessed the situation, including the living set-up, and has recommended practical long and short-term solutions. She is eager to continue working with us on practical and emotional issues as the situation progresses. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover her services, but JFCS is willing to set up a payment plan to make the services more affordable. Note: This organization serves clients of all backgrounds.
