  • It went very well. Marc is very responsive, constantly thinks about the work and tries to give you what you want, but also evaluates and tries to improve upon your plans. We're were unhappy with some color choices(our fault) and he had everything repainted until we were satisfied. He's also a very nice guy. The house hadn't been remodeled since the early 1970's when we purchased it, after it was done it looked like new construction. We even had a delivery person say we had a "beautiful brand new home". In addition, even though it was a long, very costly project, he was very flexible with the payment schedule, never pushy.

  • Overall our experience with Rich was mixed.  He's a very friendly guy, and communication and scheduling was a breeze.  After an initial email he called and was able to schedule an appointment for a walk-through a day or two later after 6pm which was very helpful so I didn't have to take time off work.  He looked at the space and immediately had some great ideas and took the necessary measurements.  His quote came quickly, with great renderings of the space and a detailed list of what was to be installed.  With a competitive quote, we decided to go with Rich because he was someone we could see working with on this project, where other closet contractors seemed disinterested with our difficult space.

The installation was set to begin on 2/12, but with the horrendous winter weather his previous jobs were delayed and was forced to reschedule us twice before finally starting the job on 2/16.  He was very professional, took off his shoes upon entering the house on every trip carrying materials and tools.  He also laid down paper to walk on so he didn't track anything on our newly refinished floors.

Everything went smoothly on the 16th - he cut and installed vertical shelving, as well as a set of low shelving that was to have a bench top installed.  He cleaned up everything before he left and was back at the house by 9:15am the next day.  He continued his work on the 17th, but ran into an issue.  Our ceiling is slanted at a 32-degree angle, but he had just assumed it was 45-degrees leading to a mis-cut and improper fit of slanted pieces that were to be mounted under the roof line.  He immediately said that he would replace them (at his cost) with proper cut pieces, but it just seemed like a bit more basic planning would have prevented this error and delay.

Rich wrapped up on the 17th before I returned home, but he sent me a detailed email going over what still needed to be done, including ordering & installing the bench top and replacing the vertical pieces that were cut to the wrong angle.  We provided him our wood preference for the bench top and forgot about it.  5 days later (on Sunday night) we get an email telling us that the bench top we liked was discontinued and we should pick another one.  Not sure why it took 5 days to order the bench top, or assuming it was ordered when we initially provided our wood preference, why we found out about the discontinued style several days later - either way it was another issue that seemingly could have been prevented with a bit more planning.

We did continue to get updates from Rich when the bench top shipped (2/25, with a 3-day transit time) and with scheduling the final installation.  He was able to get back to our house on 3/6 to finish the install and emailed our invoice the following morning.  He even came back out on Sunday to make some minor alterations to the closet to meet the design that we had originally discussed but were not achieved during assembly.

Overall it was a fine experience, with a few headaches along the way.  If partial letter grades were an option, Rich would get a "B+" from me.  The only reason it's not an "A" overall is due to the delays and minor issues with the project planning that caused those delays.  The project took 3 days (1 full day, 2 half days) to complete over the course of 3 weeks, and we are happy with the quality of our completed closet.

  • Joe was responsive from the first email and visit. He was easy to schedule and the team finished in under a week. The team was helpful and polite and cleaned up the work site everyday to minimize the challenges of living during construction. The final product looks fantastic and they're even stopping by next week to put in trim that has to be installed after the wardrobe has been set up. I'd definitely recommend SILMAC for your project.

  • We are not very handy in my house.  We tend to make it MORE broken if we try to fix it ourselves...!!!  I'm sure we're not alone in that!  So, when I saw a Special Offer on Angie's List for a Day's worth of a Handyman at a reasonable price, I jumped at the chance.
From the very first phone-call to schedule the day/time to the end of the day of work, I have only positive feedback.  Sally in the office is polite and responsive, Andre who came to the house to do the work worked quietly, cleanly and remained on task through-out the 6 hours.  He was professional and respectful at all times and was very clear about what we needed to purchase from the hardware store for him to accomplish the tasks.
There's no question, we'd have this firm in the house again if we needed their services.

  • I'm gut renovating a 13 foot by 11 foot kitchen in my condo which included the removal of two walls.  The work for Tom Curren included repair (actually replacement) of some of existing drywall on the walls where I had removed  the old tile backsplash, addition of drywall to the kitchen ceiling with cutouts for recessed lights, plastering of walls and ceiling, and painting of the walls and ceiling of the kitchen and entryway, painting of my front entry door, and painting of my closet and its door and one additional small hallway wall.
The folks at Curren are very responsive and organized, and extremely good about following up with my phone calls  & emails, questions, and progress on the job.   I was on a very tight timeline, trying to schedule the drywall & plastering work 10 days before leaving for a long-planned 3 week Asia vacation, and under pressure to order my kitchen cabinets before leaving so that they could be fabricated while I was gone and delivered as soon as I returned from vacation.
From my initial call, the folks at Curren worked with me to get to a completed signed contract within 2 days and were able to squeeze in the drywall and plastering project a week later, allowing me to maintain my project schedule for ordering my kitchen cabinets and removing a *ton* of stress for my vacation, knowing my cabinets were being fabricated while I lay on the Asian beaches and the general satisfaction of seeing covered-up walls and ceilings in my kitchen before I left.  The drywall workers were very friendly and polite, and worked very efficiently as a team to remove and install new drywall on the walls and ceilings.  They took special care to ensure the plaster was very smooth and it looks great.  Interestingly, my plants especially appreciated the extra moisture in the air from the plaster drying while I was gone for 3 weeks and they were still lush green when I got back..
Painting was completed in just over a day, with a majority of that time spent prepping the doors, walls and ceiling (plastic wrapping and taping, cleaning, sanding).  They installed a plastic curtain to shield the rest of my condo from the dust, and kept the work site amazingly clean and the paint job looks great.  There wasn't a hint of paint or dust on any of my newly installed  cabinets appliances or the tile, and the painters took all trash/waste with them.  The painters were especially eager to please, and you can tell they take great pride in the quality of their work.
My kitchen looks fantastic now, and I couldn't be happier with Tom Curren.

  • The work was spread out over two visits, which accommodated both their and my schedules. The crew was prompt, polite, and quick and skillful All of the work was completed by the end of the day with limited disruption.

  • Closet Craft quoted us for five small closets in our new home. We decided to have custom closets put in because of a design challenge with one of the larger closets in the house (dryer vent running along the base of the closet space.) Eshai came to our home to take measurements and was very personable. He also brought samples of the materials they would use for the closet.
The actual appointment only took about 20-30 minutes. He came back with a reasonable quote in a timely fashion within a few days. Ultimately we decided to go with another company that was able to give us a slightly more competitive price but would have gone with this company otherwise.

  • We cannot say enough about the quality of the work! The crew was beyond excellent for each project. They accommodated our business schedule by working after hours during the evening & over the weekend. They took care of every single detail and kept the area impeccably clean. It was a nice surprise to walk into the office the following morning to see how much the office improved. They finished each project in a very short amount of time. On the custom desks in particular, we could not believe how fast they were able to turn these around. The finish was amazing. Bertola Custom Homes is top notch and would trust them with any work again. Highly recommended!

  • Marcello's Renovations was highly recommended from my neighborhood last summer. We set up a meeting with Marcello to go over all of our Construction and Renovations ideas we had in mind and it was a very large list.Marcello shows up before the time in all our meetings  and the date/time to start the project.Begin of the project Marcello introduced Nilson the job site supervisor and carpenter. He is a nice person and JOB QUALITY WAS TOP NOT, very clean we were able to come home everyday  and our home was cleaner then we left in the morning.Marcello checked the job site every week keeping us updated  and asking us to call him if we had any concerns. We used  just call him in a minute he was calling us back to answer any question or concerns we had and make sure we were comfortable with the construction process.Marcello and he's supervisor use to ask us everyday if there was something that we dont like so he could make sure we were 110% happy with the entire project process.MR did a great job and made our dreams home come true from the begin untill the end of the Construction with high end quality.Unfortunately we had some problems with building inspectors shows up to several inspections, Marcello advised us before start the project and we totally undesrtood that it was out of Marcello's control.I will recommend MR for everyone that are looking for the Best to your home.No wonder why they are THE BEST BOSTON CONTRACTOR OF 2011 ON ANGIE'S LIST .If you are planning to hire Marcello's Renovations Please dont  think twice and do fast as you can because i am not sure if they will be available for 2012 or 2013.

  • Scott Curtice is terrific, and I would not hesitate to recommend him (in fact, I already have to a number of my friends looking to do renovation work).  His price was fair (on par with other estimates I received), but what set him apart that led us to hire him to do the work was his responsiveness and attention to detail.  We had a finished basement already, but it was just one large room.  We were looking to partition it off to create a bedroom and add a full bathroom as well.   He came over the first time to initially assess our project, then met us in person again with a layout design and to go over his estimate in detail.  He and his subcontractors were very professional.  My husband was especially happy that at the end of each workday, they cleaned up the area rather than leaving behind a mess (even though no one was even going down to the basement while the project was going on).  Scott was very easy to reach the whole time and was very proactive - he liked to set up weekly meetings during the project to update us.  He also was very accommodating of our schedule and worked around it in terms of setting up the meetings and bringing other people in.  The quality of the work was excellent, he was able to complete it in a timely manner, and overall, we were extremely pleased, nothing at all I can even complain about!
