  • First, they waited for the birds to fly off. Then they not only removed the bird's nest, used an environmentally friendly spray to kill off any bird-nest mites and cleaned the dryer shoot, but came inside the house, took off the vent, cleaned it thoroughly to make sure the passage way was free of any tree branches. They then affixed the shoot better than the builder had it before. They also gave us brilliant ideas for some home remodeling projects that we are sure going to take them up on in the future. But the next project with this brilliant team is my roofing. We look forward to working with them again.

  • October, 2015 work.
After many years of working with Tom Curren?s fine handyman Joe, we turned to the company last winter, first for ice dam buildup and then for major damage repair. Right from the start, we felt in good hands. Barry Eldershaw, Curren?s excellent Sales Estimator, was the point man for our renovation and instrumental in securing a higher insurance claim reimbursement than we had originally been awarded. What a difference that made! He worked with us from room to room, assessing damage, making suggestions, and eventually drawing up an estimate for the work needed. He communicated with us throughout the job, adjusting totals as needed.
We contracted to redo walls, ceiling, doors, and moldings in a front hall, upstairs hall, stairwell, and bedroom. Januir Serpa was the crew chief and truly a master home builder. I cannot say enough about his skills, helpful suggestions, and professional workmanship. He and his crew, especially David, were punctual, neat, and very personable. They always made time for our questions. They were hard workers, and the results far exceeded our expectations.
Part of the work included heavy insulation of a street side bedroom wall.  The wonderful result is quiet nights ? and days! Barry and Januir both made the excellent suggestion to paint the slanted roof ceilings the same color as the main ceiling. I am so glad we followed this advice. The architecture is so much more accentuated now. Each morning now I wake up in a bedroom with beautiful blue-gray walls and dove-white sloped ceilings and feel that I might be in Greece! I am thankful to the Curren company and team for the wonderful difference their work has made in our lives.
In fact, we have been so pleased with Tom Curren Companies that we are under deposit for exterior house painting to take place first thing next spring.  I am very appreciative to Lisa Cambra, Operations Manager, for scheduling our fall and spring jobs. She was pleasant, professional, flexible, and efficient. Thanks finally to the Curren office staff; Amanda, Casey, and Claudine were unfailingly helpful.

  • We engaged Canty Brothers for a complete reconstruction of our ranch-style home. Having heard the horror stories from friends and colleagues about similar projects, we were apprehensive going in. From the first meeting with owner John Canty, however, our fears were allayed.  John brought a unique combination of creativity and professionalism to the project. We had floor plans in mind but John provided good guidance on what we could do to achieve the maximum out of our space while having the resulting house fit into the neighborhood and within the constraints of the zoning rules (we live abutting conservation land), and
our budget.  John created the blueprints for the house, organized all of the paperwork with the town (a very complicated
and time-consuming process), managed all of the subcontractors, and worked with us to achieve the vision we had for our new home.
John?s crew is extremely professional and  hard-working, and are true craftsmen. Their work was exceptionally high quality and they tore down our ranch house and built a colonial house in the course of 3 months during the worst winter Boston has ever experienced. Bitter cold and double-digit feet of snow did not deter John?s crew from building a house of exceptional quality.
We have been living in our new home for over 6 months now and are thrilled with the way it turned out. The quality of the work and the materials used has resulted in a solid, comfortable, and good-looking home. We will happily use Canty Brothers for any other projects we will have and can?t recommend them highly enough. They are not the least expensive contractor but the quality of work, the ease of project management, and the fact that John took care of everything from start to finish was well worth every penny. Canty Brothers provided excellent value: Excellent quality, on time and on budget.

  • `If you have ever had a remodeling project, or lived through a construction project, you probably know that communication is probably the most important aspect of ensuring customer satisfaction.  We have had previous renovations which failed on many counts, but communication was probably one of the biggest complaints.   Let me say that Canty Bros absolutely excels in communication.  This is probably one of the biggest reasons that we chose them, and one of the biggest reasons why we would recommend them.  Not only is John Canty a proponent of communication but so is his staff.  They always respond in timely manner and pay attention to the questions that you have.  They are honest, up-front and timely with regard to communication.  John's administrative staff, such as Jean and Lisa, are incredibly helpful in coordinating activities.  They helped us pick out all of our fixtures and appliances.  They were also amazing in coordinating any problem-solving that was required.   I particularly like the fact that they gave us optionality... that is, they informed us on situations where we could choose to spend a few dollars more (or not) and what we got (or not) if chose to do so (e.g. insulation, heating systems, etc.).  My previous contractor was so adherent to budget that he would be blind to giving us optionality.  It doesn't hurt to tell people what they could choose to do or not do.  Also, I would say that Canty Bros does not try to nickel and dime you.  When you are spending significant money on a big project, they want to ensure that you are getting a product that meets your satisfaction, and therefore, they willl work with you on work-order changes, modifications, etc.
Next, I would say that Canty Bros stresses professionalism.  John insists that his staff is polite and attentive.  His people respect the fact that they are in your home.  He makes sure that they clean-up the work site and that they are respectful of neighbors.  John is a Marine, and he runs his operation with military precision.  You can tell that he is a natural leader.
On execution of the project, I would say that there were so many obstacles dealt to the Canty Bros team.  It was the worst snowfall in decades.   Also, our previous contractor (for an addition) screwed up so many infrastructure matters.   And finally, we had at the token problems with the building department.  Despite this adversity, Canty Bros delivered in a professional, high quality, and timely fashion.  They went above and beyond in correcting the problems that our previous contractor had left us with.  John, Tracey and Lisa were so helpful in getting through this project.  At the end, they worked around the clock to get us back in the house before our rental house agreement was up.  We will probably never know all the small details they did to help with that.  Even on move back in date, Kevin was here and helped us problem solve moving some furniture back in.  Additionally, they continued to communicate with us when the job was done. There were a few things that we wanted to follow-up on when the job was finished.  John and staff were very attentive to our questions and needs even after the job was done.
On the finish product, I am very satisfied.  We worried that the house was going to look too boxy or look like a McMansion.  It is neither of those.  It looks fantastic on the inside and out.   Our neighbors have come by to ask us, "who did this project?"  We are very satisfied with product.  We could have opted to move to a different location to get a house that met our needs, but we love our neighborhood and wanted something that would meet our space needs but maintain compatibility with neighborhood.  I'm very satisfied with Canty Bros' product.   I love this house.
In summary, I would highly recommend Canty Bros as a general contractor.

  • I met Kamer and I liked him right away and without asking he offered me the Angie's list discount.
He came over and took many measurements of my home and proceded to develop a design for me.  Although, I had changed my mind a few times it was no problem to him.
He is a knowledgeable,  hard working, honest and a gentleman; I would not hesitate to refer him to anyone.

  • We had purchased a big deal, and it was good. They were nice and they were on time. He didn't know all the laws of the town, and he didn't know if there were some things that he could do and others that he couldn't.

  • We cannot say enough about the quality of the work! The crew was beyond excellent for each project. They accommodated our business schedule by working after hours during the evening & over the weekend. They took care of every single detail and kept the area impeccably clean. It was a nice surprise to walk into the office the following morning to see how much the office improved. They finished each project in a very short amount of time. On the custom desks in particular, we could not believe how fast they were able to turn these around. The finish was amazing. Bertola Custom Homes is top notch and would trust them with any work again. Highly recommended!

  • He has done four months of really intense work.  This guy helped us.  He has come through three houses with us.  He is fantastic and his team is great.  We are actively in contact with him. He is expensive.  He costs 10% to 12% of what your actual renovation costs will be. So far based on the deliverables that we have gone through, he is the one man who really captures...  For example:

From the first house we waked through together, he is constantly taking notes and looking for what I am reacting to.  By the time we went to the second house he was smiling because he could tell what I wouldn't like or what changes I would want to make.  I think he is constantly gathering information about I react to a space and how my husband reacts to a space and what we are looking for in a space.  This is so critical because if he is going to build us a home he needs to have some way of understanding what we are about after studying us.  It is his job to take notes about what I like and what I don't like.  When I say "I really like this mud room" he needs to know:  ok, this woman, one of the things she really wants in her life, with her kids is having a place where they can come, get muddy and not drag it into the rest of the house.  I really like the fact that he pays extreme attention to what you say, he takes notes and the next time you meet him, he builds on that information the he's already gathered.  I feel that he already has a sense of who I am and what I am trying to accomplish in my home.  I have no doubt that he will bring that into the design when he comes to do the design.

One of my fears is going back and forth a million times with a drawing and it not being what I want.  I don't think I will have this problem with him.  Granted there will be a few tweaks but I feel that he really gets what I am trying to do and how we want to live in this new space.  That is really big and that is the one thing that puts him aside from all the other people I have interacted with.  He really listens to you the person.  He doesn't bring in his own ideas, he is really trying to make a home that works for you; not a home that works for him, a home that works for you.  He is great; he really is good.  So far from the deliverables I have really enjoyed his interaction.

He is very respectful.  We don't get the keys to the house until next May and he has been very respectful working with the current homeowners.  He has tried to get as much done knowing that we are closing at a later time.  He really had to work around the current homeowner's schedule to make sure we are respectful since they are allowing us access to their space.  He has been tremendously respectful of their space.

It has been smooth sailing since we signed the purchase agreement.  I will absolutely continue to work with him.  We signed a contract so it is kind of a done deal.

  • This was a great experience. I wanted some help with interior design for my living room and had even looked into interior designers on Angie's List. When a coupon was advertised for online design competitions, I was intrigued by the idea of getting this service virtually. The Arcbazar staff are very helpful and very patient as they direct you to gather the appropriate materials for a competition. Since I had never paid for this type of service before, I appreciated their recommendations for a proposed fee.

When the competition deadline arrived, I was sent a compressed file of four entries and was delighted to see the quality of each one. I am confident to proceed with recommendations from all four designers. Only wish I had heard of Arcbazar's before I did my kitchen renovation.

I will definitely consider using Arcbazar again.

  • MICHAEL KIM WAS VERY HONEST ASSESSING OUR NEEDS FOR HIS SERVICES. HE WAS PROMPT IN COMPLETING HIS WORK. HIS ASSOCIATES WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND THOROUGH IN TAKING COMPLETE MEASUREMENTS OF THE HOUSE. HE FOLLOWED UP WITH THE BUILDING CREW DURING CONSTRUCTION, AND PROVIDED UPDATED PLANS WHEN THE SITUATION REQUIRED THEM. HE VISITED ONCE MORE AFTER THE PROJECT WAS COMPLETED TO CHECK THAT THE WORK WAS DONE ACCORDING TO THE PLANS. WE WOULD NOT ONLY HIRE HIM AGAIN, BUT STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIS FIRM TO ANYBODY NEEDING ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES.
