The company did a great job. Jeff was professional and explained everything that he was doing and that needed to be done. They showed up on time and did the work swiftly. They cleaned up everything too.

I was getting a smoky smell in my house when using the fireplace. I called Sweepnman for a second opinion. Mark initially came out to assess my chimney and he made some recommended repairs. I liked his recommended solution so we hired this company. Mark and Matt returned and fixed my smoke chamber, installed Heat Shield on the flue tiles, and a top damper. They were always on time, respectful, and tidy with their work. I now have a safe and operational fireplace that is the centerpiece of our family gatherings! No one will be touching my fireplace but this company!

I contracted with Kenny Dunne, doing business as Chimney?s Dun-Rite, to have a chimney cap replaced.  He gave me a verbal estimate of $200 and I told him to proceed.
Upon viewing the chimney, he stated that the chimney crown was in need of repair.  I agreed to the additional $575 and subsequently paid him the contracted price of $775.  I have had masonry work done and know it can be time consuming and expensive; therefore, I did not consider his price to be exorbitant.
However, part way through the job he informed me that he needed to install an extension to the clay flue liner and that would cost an additional $200.  I told him that should have been part of the original estimate. After considerable discussion he finally agreed and took about 10 minutes to install the $10 part.
In less than 2 hours, with parts costing less than $150, he said the job was done and he left.  By my calculation he made over $300/hour (after parts) which is excessive for contractor services.
That said, I wouldn?t have had a problem if he had actually completed the work.  Although he showed me phone pictures of a repaired crown, I later found on closer inspection (binoculars) that he failed to complete repair on at least the side of the chimney away from the roof.
Because the cracked and missing mortar leaves the chimney subject to damage, I contacted Kenny to arrange for him to complete the repair.  Many weeks and a multitude of phone calls later, the work is still not done even though he stated at one point that it would only take about 30 minutes.  My  many calls have yielded nothing more than excuses and unfulfilled promises to both call back and to complete the work by a given date.  He even hung up a couple of times.  I don?t expect him to ever complete the work and I wouldn?t trust his work even if he came back.
In summary, I believe Kenny Dunne wanted to increase his profit by adding charges for work that either was and/or should have been in his estimate and our contracted price. Furthermore, his hourly rate was excessive, he lied about having done the work, he failed to honor commitments to complete the work, and he was rude.  All of which amounts to highly unprofessional conduct!
I am an informed consumer having been responsible for major facilities for 20 years at a renowned university.  I got taken.
I would never hire him to do another job for me and would certainly NOT recommend him to anyone.

We had been thinking of putting a wood stove into a field stone fireplace for a few years and since Horizon had done some flue cleanings, chimney repair, and a chimney cap for us and always did good work, plus they are a dealer for several good makes of stoves, it made sense to get a proposal from Derek.   We could have done a little better price-wise (from sale price or other material discounts) elsewhere, but we felt the overall VALUE was better with Horizon Chimney.

Derek was extremely helpful in advising on which stove would fit our needs and our fireplace (and patient with our MANY questions, and going back and forth over the pros and cons of the final couple of 'finalists' in the stove selection process, and since I was either going to redo the hearth myself or have someone else do it, was also great with measuring out the hearth extension so I could plan and execute that so it was ready to go on 'stove installation day'.

Derek and Derek arrived promptly for the installation appointment and they went quickly to work with the liner and stove installation and a few hours later we had the tiny first break-in fire going.  As always, they did excellent work in a professional and cordial manner.  A few days after the installation the building inspector approved the work, and we had a beautiful new wood stove, safely installed and ready for what turned out to be a very cold winter.

We plan on using Horizon to do the cleanings on this wood stove flue as needed.

It was excellent. They were very fairly priced. The estimate was nicely detailed. They were punctual and clean and efficient. They got the job done sooner than expected. I would definitely recommend them to others. They were honest and up front about everything from the beginning to the end.

I called his office person, Barbara, who got back to me the same day, and Mr. Milliard was soon up on my roof taking pictures, then reporting the situation to me. The next evening I had a quote on my computer, outlining fully what had to be done. I accepted the estimate, and, before a week had gone by, the work was all done . I was completely satisfied with this whole process, my place was left clean and neat. It was a pleasure to deal with Barbara and Robert Milliard.
