    Ranch Roofing
    Work started about three weeks after Ranch Roofing came out to provide a quote on the work. They were very upfront about the process and materials used. They're very responsive by email and once you're in touch with their estimator or the owner, you have a direct line. The only thing I didn't like is the call center I had to interact with a few times, as they only leave messages. Work was completed in just a day and a half and the crew cleaned everything up when they were done. I'm very happy with my roof and would highly recommend this company.

    Willard Co
    Outstanding responsiveness, work, professionalism, everything - I am very grateful!  I called Willard on a Friday, and
    1. A very helpful and straightforward person picked up the phone immediately;
    2. A gentleman came the next work day to examine the job;
    3. Willard emailed me a detailed and comprehensive quote the next day;
    4. Willard ordered parts immediately upon receipt of contract and deposit; and
    5. Willard returned in one week and did all the work in one day, so neatly and so cleanly the only change I noticed on coming home was that suddenly I had new skylights and repaired roof and siding.

    The windows and roofing stood up under a downpour without a drop getting through, and I now have amazing solar-powered motorized skylights.  Every time I contacted Willard the phone was answered right away, and every time Willard came exactly when scheduled.  The contract manager was kind enough to go through the entire job details with me and also to give advice on another structural problem with the house.  This after I already had been left hanging by one "top-rated" company and ignored by a second.

    I am very thankful, and I certainly hope to use Willard for any and all construction needs!

    AR Home Renovations Corp
    The company showed up when scheduled. They completed the work within the time specified and took an extra day to make sure the work was done right.  They actually went above expectations by painting an extra area so that everything would blend in. The work was done at my father's house where everything went smoothly by just communicating with the owner by phone. My father even asked the company to do some additional work. It was a plumbing job that they could not do but, they did provide a reference. I checked with other companies so I know the pricing was comparable. I chose AR Home Renovations because they were responsive in scheduling the work after providing the quote.  Overall, I was very happy and will contact AR Home Renovations for additional work in the future.

    Nuza Roofing Corporation
    These guys were so enjoyable to have around.  Very considerate and marvelous with their workmanship. They are all about anything to do with roofing. While up on the roof, they saw the chimney needed patching too, which they did, thankfully.  They want the job to be done completely.
    When replacing the skylight, an opening in the eaves revealed a lot of space, that they turned into a huge cabinet for me.  They took considerable time making sure it was right, hand made the doors, and didn't charge me extra for the extra time. I paid the price agreed upon.
    All this work was done early in Jan.  They are coming back to finish painting in spring.
    Definitely would recommend.

    Ranch Roofing
    We contracted with Ranch Roofing to install a new shingled roof on our house. We had received four estimates and Ranch Roofing's was actually the most expensive of the four. However, they sent a rep to our home to discuss in great detail their process of installing a new roof, pointing to shortcuts that many roofers take that most customers would never be aware of. On their written estimate, they itemized each component of the roof, line by line, clearly outlining that item's contribution to the overall cost. Most of the other estimates we received were too vague or brief (one simply said "install new shingles and underlayment"). We researched the brands and models of all the materials they proposed to use and learned that they are all high quality, highly recommended materials based on information gleaned online. Ranch Roofing also highly recommended replacing the 30 year old skylight (the only skylight), citing that it's not possible to properly re-flash it once the original flashing is removed. They were the only business that weren't enthusiastic about installing the new roof around the existing skylight. We accepted their argument, and in retrospect it was the right decision because the overall cost addition for a new skylight was minimal (we paid their own cost for the skylight, they didn't profit on it-- and they had to drive all the way to CT to pick it up), and now we have piece of mind that the new one will last another 30 years before leaking (that's the projection, anyway!). They also insisted on having a mason re-lead the chimney instead of just slapping on tar goop like other roofers would have done. This added $450 to the cost but again, in retrospect it was worth every penny knowing it was done the right way (and lead flashing looks so much more professional). So in the end, their estimate was the highest because they proposed using the best materials and involving other professionals for services that are supposed to be done when redoing a roof properly (chimney re-leading, for example). If we had added on those extra services and materials to the other estimates we had gotten, they would have approached that of Ranch Roofing's estimate. The work was done in one day, as promised, and this included tearing down THREE old layers, dismantling the top section of a defunct chimney, and re-leading the working chimney-- a lot of work. At first we were a little annoyed because it started raining rusty nails and shrapnel before we could get our small kids safely out the door on their way to school, but the workers stopped when they saw us exiting the house. Still, there were sharp bits all over the ground that we had to carry our kids over, but aside from this little inconvenience all went well. The owner of the company came by that night for a final inspection of the work with me present to point things out. I had pointed out a few things that hadn't been done to my satisfaction-- some of the shingle overlap at the edges of the roof were uneven, and the drip edge in one area needed some adjustment. The roofers had managed to break a brick on our front stoop. They were VERY responsive to the issues and had them all resolved within a day, even hiring a mason to fix the brick the very next day. The cleanup after the job was also better than average (not perfect, but you can't expect that from anyone, especially with the three extra layers of old shingles and the corresponding nails they had to remove before installing the new shingles). Overall we are very pleased with the job they did.

    SILMAC Construction Inc.
    Joe DaSilva and his team were awesome. Joe came to inspect and gave us detailed recommendations and quote, then when we got back in touch with him he was responsive and punctual. He was also true to his word about timing and scheduling. He and his team had to reinforce our foundation and install some emergency lights to satisfy a time-sensitive inspection, then his team replaced some lost shingles on our roof, caulked and sealed various windows and areas on our decks and roof, and installed a storm door at one roof-deck entrance to help us get to the bottom of leaks that have been going on for years. His diligence has been really appreciated and our house (6 units) is better sealed now than it's ever been. No one ever gave us the recommendations that Joe did. We've been throwing away money on contractors for years - I think we've finally found our man.

    Excellent.  First of all, Marcello is always reliable, honest and does great work.  Marcello installed new gutters around our porch, fixed several broken slates up on our 40/50ft roof & resealed our leaking skylight.  Marcello is very competitive w/his pricing & was roughly 60% of his closest competitor.  Thanks Marcello & keep up the great work!

    Ranch Roofing
    In short, I'll never go to another roofing company.
    Ranch roofing was the sixth roofing quote I recieved.
    Bob O'Sullivan is a respectful, stand-up guy who knows his business and doesn't feed you any gimmicks or BS.
    Throughout the entire process he was attentive and professional.

    Why did he win-out over other contractors?
    1. 1) Price.  The final quote was 15 to 30% lower than other contractors - for an apple to apples comparison.
    2. 2) Materials.  He quoted and uses premium underlayment and ice/water shield.  With other contractors this was an up-charge (by alot in some cases!)  He was very clear about our existing sky lights (almost 20 years old) explaining that he couldn't vouch for the seals or flashing kits.  It made sense to replace them while doing everthing else.  In either case the labor charge wouldn't have changed.  We just paid for the new sky lights and flashing kits.  We also wanted to add VELUX Sun Tunnels into our kitchen and my work shop.  Ranch did the exterior work.  I, the home owner, did the interior work to save money. LOVE them.  If you can, you should definately consider Sun tunnels!  When we decided to replace the siding on 3rd floor dormer Bob worked with us on considering multiple products; using cedar shakes like the rest of the house, synthetic options or clapboards.  We opted for wider clapboards to match the exposure-spacing of the rest of the house.  This was the most cost-effective option without compromising the look of the house.  Bob was helpful discussing the window trim options; wrapping the existing in metal or replacing with Paintable Plastic.  We opted for the Plastic for the resiliency.
    3. 3) Coordination.  We had some tight timing coordinating when the work needed happen due to a related solar project we were doing.  Bob did a great job working / coordinating with the other trades.  Ranch even delivered the siding early so I could prepaint it before installation.  (Caveat: this is harder than you think, when you consider how to consolidate and store the painted pieces, e.g. you can't stack the painted surfaces together else they'll stick together!)
    4. 4) Warranty / Follow-up.  This is where Ranch truly shined.  After they were paid in-full we had some minor issues shortly after completion.  In short, they stood behind their work and didn't stop until everything was perfect.
    So, does it sound too good to be true?  Can these guys be that good?  Yeah, reading this review it could sound that way.  The good part is it's not.  Call Ranch Roofing, you won't be disappointed.

    S + H Construction Inc
    S&H is a stand-up company, very professional on site and followed up with detailed paperwork.
    Their rates are clear and the scope of services is broken down very well.
    As with any General Contractor their all-encompassing services come at a premium.
    A fair premium, but unfortunately one that we couldn't afford to accomplish the scope of work we desired.
    That, and I am doing some of the work myself and playing GC.
    Frankly, I would have looked no further if we could have afforded S&H.

    Skillville Corp
    This was a huge project for us, and we were very careful about choosing our contractor. To be honest, there was no wiggle room in the budget for something to go wrong. After interviewing several people, we chose Nelson and Bruce of Skillville because they were both local and smart.

    The crews arrived on the scheduled date and wasted no time getting to work. Since we both work from home, we were able to "supervise" the work, and did catch a few misunderstandings before they were of consequence. These misunderstandings were about the scope of the work, not the approach or quality however. For those not at home, a quick call to Nelson would have been enough for clarification.

    We felt that our project was given top priority, workmen arrived consistently and worked hard. There were a few weather delays, and then a period of no activity while we waited for the Pella windows to arrive. In no way was this Skillville's fault. Pella's production ran a month behind their promised date.

    Unfortunately, the Pella window did not meet code, so we are now waiting for a safety glass panel to pass inspection. A small bump in an otherwise smooth road.

    I would not hesitate to use Skillville again for any project, big or small. Nelson and Bruce were very hands-on, the quality of the work is excellent, the price was fair, and best of all, last week's rain stayed on the other side of house. The buckets used to catch rain under the attic eves have been moved to storage racks in the basement.

    If we ever have the money to rebuild the porch and regrade the yard, Skillville will be our first call.
