    RockSolid Chimney, LLC
I could not be happier. Obviously, I have not climbed on top of my 3 story house to look close up, but even from the ground I can see that what was clearly a rickety chimney now looks, well, rock solid. The chimney cap is in place and it clearly looks like it's going to stand for a very long time. Ted called me within minutes of me doing the search on Angie's List, but since Rock Solid was one of the companies that came up with an A rating and excellent reviews, and since he could come out very quickly, I decided to see what he said. Time frame was important here, since you could see the sky through the gaps between the bricks of the chimney, and we have solar panels near by. If a brick fell it could damage a solar panel and that would be very bad. In fact, Ted said that the best course would be to rebuild the chimney entirely, but given the solar panels he wouldn't want to take the chance. It looked rebuilt when they left today. He gave me the estimate on Tuesday and was able to make it here on Friday (today.) He *did* tell me he wasn't a morning person and wouldn't be out early, but I didn't need to be here so long as they had access to water and electricity. Well, I don't know when they arrived because I didn't hear a thing. Just when I went out I saw the ladder. They were done by 4pm and everything looked beautiful. The ground underneath was perfectly clean. I gave him a check and now I've got a fully repaired chimney that isn't going to fall down. All good! Much happiness all around. I certainly recommend Rock Solid Chimney.

    AR Home Renovations Corp
Very, very well. There were some weather delays, but they came when they said they'd come (except once they were a day late and once a day early); the work was extremely well done (they fixed a couple of small problems and one big problem that no one else has been able to fix in the 30 years we've owned the house); the workmen were professional and friendly; AR did several small extra jobs at no extra charge; their daily clean-ups were impeccable; and they didn't even annoy my neighbors, who can be very touchy. Andre, AR's owner, was easy to talk to and work with, and in one case he took FULL responsibility for a mistake--in failing to anticipate a problem--that he could easily have argued about or refused to do. As to price, I have little to compare with, but my impression from speaking to friends is that his prices were fair, indeed more than fair when I think of the attention given to details and the small extra jobs thrown in for free. We were more than satisfied and will definitely hire AR again. This was the best contractor experience I've had in decades.

    The Fireplace Guys LLC
They let me know when they would arrive at the start of the arrival window via text message and were prompt (~ 20 min into 2 hour arrival window). Took off shoes and brought in cloths to cover floor. While onsite, provided information about conversion to gas fireplace (at my request), took measurements, recommended the type of gas conversion unit that was likely to work best in my fireplace and explained why. Guys were friendly and respectful. Packaged up equipment neatly - not a trace that they were there. Would definitely hire again.

Derek came on two occasions and was very helpful and professional. It looks like installing a new fireplace won't work, and he advised that the leak is likely not due to our existing fireplace, so he got nothing out of this. That shows his honesty and professionalism.

    A-Tec Chimney Sweep
When I was getting the insulation work done, when they were trying to do the air sealing around the chimney, they noticed an old chimney flue. It turned out to be what looked like an old chimney flue coming out of a wood stove in the second floor. It was broken, so it was snapped off. The insulation company said, "We're not comfortable sealing this off. If for some reason it was a back trap for the chimney, you have issues. We don't want to be liable for it. You probably just need to seal it, patch it, but we don't want to do that work, it's not what we do. So, have someone else come and address that, make sure it's fine before we finish." So that is why I had to get them. So, A-Tec Chimney came out and basically confirmed what it was and why it was there and then they basically mortared over and patched up that pipe to close it off from the chimney and confirm that nothing was blocking the chimney after they did that or anything like that. So it was really basic. It was $200 for them to do that. I was satisfied with the job that they did. It literally took them 5 minutes, they basically just knocked off that section of the flue that was connected to the chimney. They just hammered it off. Then where the hole was, they literally put mortar over it and smoothed it out. That was literally all they did. I probably could have done it, but I wanted them to come to make sure that the old flue pipe wasn't connecting anywhere else and wasn't still active to make sure that it was safe to do that. One of the things that I really liked about them is that everyone else I called to get this very simple job done was saying that they would also need to inspect the chimney and send a camera down there to snake it look at it and that I would probably also need the chimney liner and all that stuff. Everyone else was a lot more expensive. The guy that came, did what he needed to do and he didn't try to upsell me. He was like, "Listen your chimney is so old that it's probably pointless to put a liner in it at this point." He didn't try to upsell me like a lot of the other folks did. To me, that is important, especially as a new homeowner with all the other expenses. I feel like that may be valuable for other people to hear because when you don't know anything about what is being repaired it's hard to tell whether they're trying to just get you spend more money or not. So I thought that that was important.

    RockSolid Chimney, LLC
I was having a new roof put on and thought, oh maybe it would be a good idea to have the chimney buttoned up first in case there were any issues. Good thing I called RockSolid Chimney. My 120 year old brick chimney (it's a tall one, too) was nearing the end of its useful lifespan. Ted recommended to replace it from the roofline up to avoid any future issues. Also, the inside of said 120 year old chimney had some issues, including that since we switched to externally vented gas furnaces a couple years ago, there wasn't enough "draw" to pull up the emissions from our 2 gas hot water heaters and an ancient much-loved antique gas range that vents directly into the chimney. Ted recommended stainless steel twin liners, one to the gas range, the other to the gas hot water heaters. I wanted American-made brick and stainless steel chimney cap, no cheap junk from China, please. All good. Wilfred and his guys do the actual labor. They are great. Very conscientious, hardworking, and clean up when they are done. My new chimney is very handsome, the new cap keeps the weather and animals/birds out, the new liners... who the heck knows, what goes on inside the chimney, but it all works great. For $6,200 we definitely got what we paid for. I liked their work so much we hired them to repoint the chimney on our rental house, another $1,200. Oh yes, and they cleaned up my cracked front steps and skim coated them nicely for a couple hundred bucks as a bonus. Chimneys are ignored, overlooked, forgotten... don't forget or overlook yours. It is an essential health and safety component of your home.

    5 Star Ventilation
The guys from 5 Star just left after installing a chimney liner (in our unlined chimney), insulation, a custom chimney cap and our wood-burning stove. Everything is now working perfectly and completely up to code. These guys are the best around, hands down. Completely professional, completely thorough, and all work done with complete integrity.

5 Star was recommended to me by several people, and I am so happy I contacted them. I won't let anyone else work on my chimney.

    RockSolid Chimney, LLC
They were supposed to provide masonry repair services in addition to the chimney sweep. They called and said they would get back to me but they didn't, so I'm supposed to get a rebate. When they came, they charged me an extra $150 for putting the pile in the garbage disposal. They told me to add a lining inside the chimney but their estimate was too high.

    ANL Construction Co
Art and his team have a VERY impressive and professional operation. They completed the whole job in about three days. I can't imagine anyone being able to do the job much more quickly. Art did a good job of communicating the status of the job and sent photos at the end of every day to show progress. He was also actively involved in the whole operation - I always appreciate knowing that the business owner is heavily involved in the work. They did a good job of cleaning up and were very respectful to the neighbors.

North American Chimney & Gutter Corp
North American Chimney was able to accommodate our tight schedule (we had to have the inspection done quickly per our offer contract). They sent two technicians, who arrived early and were already performing an assessment of the outside brick work when we got there. Both were very professional and knowledgeable. They were able to inspect both chimneys and give us a written estimate on the spot.
