I called EA in April and was told the dress would be a month later than expected because it was being made in China and they had had their Chinese New Year. Not a problem since the wedding isn't until October.
I received a call in June that the dress was in and made an appointment the following week. The dress was gorgeous but it was so tight that I felt like I was wearing a corset. I could barely breath. Jaclyn and Kelly took my measurements again and confirmed that they were the same as they were in January when Jaclyn originally  took them. So why was the dress too small? I told them that I didn't think I should be obligated to pay for the alterations since someone had made an error. They explained to me that the designer has a size chart they they order from and that the dress is not custom-made. The problem was that my measurements for my bust and waist were exactly what the designer's chart indicated. So, again,  why was the dress too small? Kelly told me I could make an appointment with a seamstress that they use who is independent from their store and that I would have to pay this woman cash. I was not comfortable with that should I have a problem and my dress is ruined
I took my dress to a tailor and she showed me how little material was available to let the dress out at the seams of the bust, waist and hips: 1/2 inch. Jaclyn and Kelly had told me that their policy is to order a dress as close to your measurements as possible with the allowance of taking it in or letting it out. They said it was easier to let a dress out than take it in 3 inches (as would have been the case for my waist if I'd ordered a size larger). However, they didn't take into consideration that there would be so little material in the seam to let out.
Now I am waiting to see if the tailor I left my dress with is going to be able to let my dress out enough so that I am able to wear it. In hindsight, I would have bought the larger size and had the dress taken in. I've since spoken to seamstresses at David's Bridal and they indicated that it is always appropriate to get a larger size and take the dress in.
