C & C Painting was supposed to remove wallpaper in and paint one room, as well as paint two other rooms and a hallway.
Based on Angie’s List reports, I hired C & C Painting to paint three rooms (one of which needed wallpaper removed) and a hallway in my elderly mother’s home. It was a serious mistake – in fact, it was a disaster. They began the job on Thursday, April 7th and spent the day removing wallpaper by hand and priming woodwork. They left early because they said they were going to rent a steamer and had to get to the store before it closed. Casey Riethle promised the crew would make much more progress the next day, and said they would finish the job by Saturday. That night I received an e-mail from Casey saying, “a builder I work for just called me, he's closing on a house 2moro afternoon and he needs me to touch up the house first thing 2moro.. he gives me 20 plus houses a year so I really can't say no. I can still come Saturday and early next week if that works for you..I'm very Srry he didn't give me a warning or I would have scheduled him for some other time.” Although I was not pleased to be blown off, I responded graciously writing, “these things happen,” and thanking him for letting me know. Saturday morning arrived and C & C did not show up; I called Casey and left a message asking where they were. He did not return the call, and my mother waited in the house all day in case they arrived. Finally, at 4:05 p.m., I received an e-mail from Casey saying, “Srry bout 2day I have a very tight schedule and I got swamped with a couple builders now. Is love to finish it for ya but I'm gonna need a couple weeks. If u want to go another way I wouldnt blame ya..u can keep the paint and no charge obviously. Let me kno if ur willing to wait, very Srry I feel terrible.” I responded that this was unacceptable and unprofessional, and I expected them to honor their commitment by coming to work on Monday. He never showed up or answered my e-mail. My mother, who is in her 80s, is downsizing and was thus anxious to have the house painted, so she could list in during the spring real estate season. We had to start the process all over again to find another painter, losing valuable time on the market. On a final note, both painters we interviewed looked at the paint C & C had left behind and said they would not use it, as it was the cheapest paint available and not up to their standards. Based on this experience, I cannot imagine how anyone could have given this company an “A” rating. They left my mother’s house a mess, especially as they did not even bother to cover the carpet or the furniture while they were removing wallpaper, tracking the debris everywhere. Stay far, far away from C & C Painting if you value commitment and professionalism.
