    Bay State Refinishing & Remodeling
We purchased an 1874 house that needed significant work with plans for us to move out of our old condo within three months of closing and asked for the nearly impossible task of finishing enough of the work to allow us to move out of our old condo in time. We had multiple contractors come and evaluate and it seemed that no one would be able to accomplish the feat, as we had plans for taking down several walls and chimney, completely redoing the kitchen, two bathrooms, and major cosmetic and other work including new electric, new central HVAC, and updating the plumbing and hot water. Ray came and evaluated the project and despite others who had said they would not be able to get the project done in the time frame we asked, he said that his company Bay State would be able to accomplish this. I could tell immediately with his thorough approach on that first visit that we would be in good hands. They began demolition the day after we closed on the purchase and in a crazy three month period they were able to check off all the major projects and somehow allowed us to move in. After moving in they completed the remaining major items, and we are now checking off the last small detail work. David was our project manager and he juggled and coordinated the builders, electricians, plumbers, HVAC people, painters, flooring people, kitchen designer. He worked incredibly hard to make sure we were able to move our family in and that we were happy with the results. My wife and I have very demanding requirements for the details of the work, and he worked tirelessly to make sure that the end result was up to our very high standards. Marcio (aka the Doctor) was the main builder who did an amazing job constructing the bathroom, kitchen, built-ins, new windows etc. Jonathan and his electrician crew was fantastic and gave us the custom lighting and complete rewired and updated the entire system throughout the house. David (Mr Fix it plumbing) also did great work adding an additional sink in the kitchen, completely new hot water heater and even sent water and sewage up to the attic to prep for a future bed/bath renovation. John the HVAC guy also did a great job adding a second HVAC system and we now have a beautiful modern and custom house that retains the charm of its 1874 roots. Many of our friends have done renovation projects with other groups that take far longer or cost far more than the initial estimate. Bay state however kept to their time frame, and when something extra or unexpected came up (as is wont to happen with a 144 year old house that had not been worked on in many years) they always gave us options on how to address the issue in case we did not want to spend the extra money. Overall we feel lucky that our family ended up in such good hands and we absolutely would recommend to others hiring Bay State for you major or minor project.

    Luis Jara Home Improvement
Luis and Camillo did an outstanding job. The job was finished on time and on budget. I did not expect it to take as long as it did, but that it because I did not anticipate the detail and precision that Luis would put into the work. The cabinets look brand new, the subway tile backsplash looks incredible, and the walls and ceiling are expertly painted. Luis and his team provide quality, affordable work and do not bring up the "unanticipated costs" halfway through the project that other contracts do. We gave Luis freedom to select colors and design a lot of the updates, and we are very happy that we did. Wonderful job. A+

    Bauman Remodeling
Went great, Mike was able to fit in all of these items on short notice between other jobs, and selected most of the materials. It all took about a month end-to-end, and the end result looked great. These were all items that were much easier to do once the house was empty, and all very much worth doing. The house sold in one weekend, and we'll plan to hire Mike for projects at the new house a few years down the line.

Terrific, after having remodeled our bathroom and bringing our laundry upstairs, I felt where I initially placed the laundry felt very clunky, so I chose to have Sander and his crew take up some of the flooring they had put down 2 years prior (sorry...) and change some of the plumbing they'd put in (again so sorry) to put the laundry into a niche like space (we grabbed room from the adjoining bedroom). The wall had to be partially taken down and the laundry niche framed and finished with all the plumbing in a new place. It came out perfectly and I'm glad I made the change even though one person in the house didn't want to do it. Additionally I had him replace a custom door and window. Everything was done within 10 days after the custom items were in. I was quite pleased. More than pleased with everything in total turned out. We're looking forward to doing our siding next.

Great. He responded promptly to my initial phone call, and we were able to set up the job within 2 weeks. He was courteous, fast, reasonably priced, and did a great job on the ceilings. I would use him again.

    Keane Painting
Due to a leak in our bathroom shower, we needed to repair the wall in our bedroom that was used as access to the fixture as well as the ceiling in the dining room below the bathroom. After finding Barry Keane's company on Angie's List (and because he is local to us), we called and he came over to scope out the situation the next day. While chatting about the job and things in general, we discovered that he was currently painting in the school where I teach. A small world moment. So, I figured that I was in good hands. Keane painting handles big jobs and even small ones like ours, and he is a pleasure to work with. We agreed that our job was not an emergency, so we could wait while he finished up some bigger jobs. Well, yesterday, he and his workers came over at 7 am (I had to get to school, and he accommodated that) and went to work. When I got home, the only comment I could make was WOW! The wall in the bedroom looked like nothing had ever happened to it, and the ceiling section in the dining room had been scraped and patched before being painted with the correct kind of paint for a 100 year old ceiling. The work was perfect, and the clean up was, as well. When my wife got home from work, she made exactly the same comment! There is no question as to who we will be calling for any interior work in our house from now on. In fact, we are beginning to plan on when we will be able to call him back in to fix the job done by another Angie's List painting company we used seven years ago whose ceiling work is failing throughout our house. Barry is great. Use his company with confidence.

Con Doherty did an excellent job! He call to confirm dates always let me know what time he would arrive. I have never seen anyone work as hard as he does! He starts early and stays until he is done with the rooms he planned to finish each day. I had a cat trail high on the walls, running around the main floor of my house that I no longer wanted. It wasn't part of the estimate but Con removed it and patched a section of dry wall without any added fee even though I offered to pay for the extra labor. His work is excellent. I'm so happy with how great my walls and ceilings look now!

    DiOrio Builders & Designers Inc
Derek and James did an excellent job working with us to complete a plan for the kitchen and we are very satisfied with their execution of this plan. They came to do the initial measurements and discuss what we wanted and what our budget was. They then worked with designers at Home Depot to come up with two main design plans for the kitchen, and we selected one. We followed up with the Home Depot designer to complete the design with the specific elements that we wanted. We appreciate the fact that they did not simply charge us a premium on the work of the Home Depot or the subcontractors, which saved us some money. We are happy with the results of the Home Depot design and the quality of cabinets and counter tops, and we think the subs--here electricians, plumbers and floor installers--did excellent work. Derek and James checked in with us in advance of each step of the job to make sure we knew what was going to be done and to provide input. In some cases, we needed to work on plan changes with them (you never know what you find when you open the walls and ceilings of an old house!), but we are happy with the outcome. Derek and James were most directly involved in the gut portion, and the rough and finish carpentry, cabinet installation and painting. They paid attention to detail and the result was beautiful. I also want to say that they were careful to keep the kitchen isolated from the rest of the house to minimize dust, and they were meticulous in cleaning up at the end of the day and the end of the job. Nothing is perfect on a job this size and complexity. The inspections needed since this involved a combination of structural, electrical and plumbing work, delayed progress longer than we would have liked and the completion of the job took a bit longer than we would have liked. During the project, there were some issues with decisions made by the subcontractors that we had to work through, but they listened and we got changes made that we needed. One other thing that is worth mentioning. At the time we started looking for kitchen contractors, I saw a number of reviews here on Angie's list about money issues or unpleasant disagreements. We were wary about this when we started. Both Derek and James explained the circumstances related to these issues and we were satisfied with their explanation. We did not experience any problems with them as this job progressed. I felt they treated my wife and I with great respect. I would say that, as with any job of this size and complexity, it is important to keep up communications with the contractors. The bottom line here is we were very happy with our experience and would certainly use them again.

    Lewis Drywall & Plaster
Jake was on time and always professional. He was so nice and friendly and was very honest and reasonable with his pricing. Jake showed up early in the morning and removed some pretty nasty "walls" and cleaned up shoddy workmanship on my condo walls and ceiling. He even went out to get insulation when we realized my walls had none. He then put up new drywall and plastered everything -- he was very meticulous and made sure the plaster was smooth and the edges were nice before leaving. He cleaned up everything and is even coming back to help me install the baseboards. I especially appreciate Jake's responsiveness, friendliness, and good nature. He is a very nice and honest person, which is nice to encounter! Thanks Jake!
