Furniture Refinishing reviews in Raynham

  • When we left the desk, Brad and I carefully went over how the final design/paint & stain would look when finished.  And it was only a short time later that we were able to pick up the finished desk.  It FAR exceeded my expectations.  Brad, along with his fellow studio asst. cook and dishwasher Alan, had done such a beautiful job!  I couldn't wait to see what it was going to look like when we placed it up in our new bedroom.  It looked beautiful!!!

The finished desk/table had been placed out in the front of all the furniture that lines both sides of the main aisle through the studio, and Brad and Alan told us that as people had been walking into and out of the studio, they had been commenting on how beautiful the desk/table looked.

Brad again perfectly matched the blue paint for the desk to the blue paint on the cabinet inserts.  The finish is impeccably smooth and beautiful. The two drawers were finished not just on the outside face, but the wood on the inside of the drawers was also sealed.

The price shocked me.  I never expected it to be so reasonable.  Brad explained to me that the fact that the table had already been refinished, not much work or time was needed to refinish the top of the table.  When sanding the top down, he was able to remove a water ring that my aunt didn't manage to remove many years ago.  The grain of the wood is just beautiful.

The base is now painted blue.  We decided to leave the drawer fronts natural wood and just seal them, and the wooden knobs on each drawer were painted blue.  It really makes the drawers pop when you look at the table.  Now I'm looking for a pink wishbone chair to provide seating at the desk/table.  This will all coordinate with my new Company C bedspread, and I'm so excited to see my "new" bedroom all come together.

Thank you so much Brad and Alan!  And thank you Bob for having such a wonderful business and being so customer-friendly.  Please don't ever go out of business.  I'm thinking of next painting my golden oak pedestal dining room table!  I will need you for that.

  • So I decided to go to Angie's List to research furniture refinishing.  And I found Judd Refinishing in Dedham, owned & operated by Bob Judd.  What a jewel of a find.  Bob encouraged me to either email him photos or stop by and bring the table in.  We ended up taking the table in (the company is only a short distance off Rt. 128 and easy to reach).  Bob and his staff examined the table and declared the refinishing job doable.  I provided my own deep blue paint (Behr) that had been used on two of the walls in the room and by my husband when he painted the table - I wanted the table to match the walls.  I also had purchased (good timing) a coupon on Angie's List that allowed for $600 worth of work at Judd's for a purchase price of $400.  And we left the table in the hands of Judd Refinishing...fingers crossed.

Two months later after returning from a trip to Florida, I called the shop and they asked me to stop in the next time we passed by their Rt. 128 exit.  It turned out the Behr paint didn't adhere any better than when my husband painted it.  Hard to know why because none of us knew the history of the original finishes on the table.  But Brad Libby, Bob's trusted right hand suggested we let him create his own paint - assuring us he could match the Behr paint beautifully.  He also told us they'd had trouble with some other furniture pieces people wanted painted with Behr paint.  And he hoped that was a good part of the problem.

When we went in this day to see the table, Brad had re-stripped the triangular-shaped top of the table down to bare wood.  The bare wood was cherry and it was gorgeous.  Brad then took a rag, dipped it into some stain, and ran a few swipes across the table top.  The finish just popped in the most beautiful way.  I told Brad it almost seemed a sin to paint the top.  After a creative discussion on how to proceed, we decided we would leave the top stripped, stain it, and then polyurethane for protection and paint the side edge of the table top and leaves, the base, & legs the color blue of my new walls.

We returned 3-4 wks later when the table was finished.  I can't even begin to describe how beautifully the table turned out.  Much better than my wildest dreams could have imagined.  Every time I'm in our bedroom, I take great joy in just staring at my table.  I bought it from the shop in Maine for $45 and it was the best $45 I've ever spent.

Since the table turned out so well (Judd's work was exemplary...actually, more than exemplary), I decided to have the shop do the same to a small early 1920s oak desk/table that I inherited from my aunt & want to use in the bedroom.  Same design:  table top left as bare wood with a stain to match cherry as best they can get, blue paint on the side edges of the top, the base & legs, bare wood on the two drawer fronts located under the table top, and blue paint on the wooden knobs on each drawer.  Now I can't wait for the desk to be finished.

JUDD REFINISHING!  You can not possible go wrong if you take them a piece of furniture for restoration or refinishing.  They are AMAZING!!!

  • I called a couple refinishers, emailed photos, and chose John. His price was a bit lower. He was available to start. And he was flexible in how he would go about refinishing the desk. He had a lot of work going on so we let him hang onto the desk for a while. It came out great though. He had to replace two panels of mahogany laminate, refinish hardware, order knobs, glue down bubbling laminate, and color match everything. The desk looks great. This was a family heirloom. We weren't looking to restore it to its new condition - not that he couldn't - we just didn't want to spend more than we had to considering it just needed to fit alongside our existing furniture.
