    In short: not well Long story: I was a long standing patient who was very loyal to her GYN. I switched insurances and was treated very differently. The nurses I interacted with were not knowledgeable. The professional staff (NPs, MDs etc) refused to contact me when I asked a direct question. It was excuse after excuse until finally I was billed an outrageous amount for a service which lead me to believe they are only after money from procedures as opposed to offering quality care. I’m glad I got out when I could.

    I have been seeing a gynecologist at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) in Cambridge for almost 4 years. I have also been seeing a dermatologist at HVMA in Quincy, and I recently saw a physical therapist at HVMA in West Roxbury. I also saw 2 interal medicine doctors at the Cambridge clinic for some emergency items. Overall: I have had an extremely positive experience with all of the HVMA clinics that I have visited. Because I am fair skinned, my primary care provider recommended that I see a dermatologist once per year. That recommendation is now part of my medical record at HVMA, so I can now contact the dermatologist directly and see him on an annual basis. There is no need for me to go through my PCP every time. My gyncologist recommended that I start having an annual physical from my PCP - that recommendation showed up in my online account (see Communication section below), prompting me to schedule the first appointment. When I had a couple of last minute emergency items that arose, I was able to call the reception desk at the clinic nearest to me and schedule a same day or next day appointment with an Internist who I had never seen before but who was part of the HVMA system. I have been able to locate doctors in different HVMA clinics that are convenient for me to get to in terms of proximity to my work and home. The different clinics appear to integrate seamlessly with one another, and I really feel as though I'm being treated as a whole patient, not just separate doctors treating separate parts of me. Grade A. Making appointments: To make appointments, I just call the particular HVMA office that I want and they direct my call to the particular reception desk that I need. No matter which office I have called (Cambridge, Quincy and West Roxbury), the staff who answer the phones are always very friendly and competent. I do not get put on hold. They know where to direct my call, and I can schedule appointments quickly. Grade A. Availability: For many of the doctors, there is a long lead time before you can make your first appointment with them, so that is one downside. However, I suspect this is true for doctors outside of HVMA as well. Furthermore, once you have seen the doctor at least once, you can schedule your appointments ahead of time to get onto a routine rotation if needed. Grade B. Bedside manner: Every health care professional I have seen at HVMA, which includes a gyncologist, a physician's assistant in dermatology, a physical therapist, a nurse practitioner in internal medicine, and 2 MDs in internal medicine, as well as the associated RNs and LPNs that assist them, have been very professional in their bedside manner. They take the time to ask me questions about my medical history and the details about any current issues. They record all medical history directly into an electronic database, so the records are updated immediately, and some dropdown choices for certain items help minimize transcription errors. I have showed up late to a few appointments, and they are extremely gracious about it and always work me in as soon as they can. They always give you a summary printout of what you discussed in your visit as well as recommended treatment/prescriptions as relevant. Grade A. Communication: In addition to in person communication (which I'm counting as bedside manner and making appointments, reviewed above), HVMA also has an online system where you can reach out to your doctor with simple questions, and they can also send you medical results. Once you become a patient, you can register for an online account on their website, and then you can submit questions to any of the particular doctor's that you have already visited in the past. They always get back to you with an answer within 2 days. This is great if you have a quick question about a prescription you are taking or you thought of something else that you had forgotten to tell them during the appointment. I have also received medical results via the online system. It is not something that I check every day, so if they send you a test result and they notice that you have not viewed it within a certain period of time, then they will also mail the result to your house to make sure that you see it. Grade A. Effectiveness of treatment: All treatments for which I have seen doctors at HVMA have been effective. This includes both prescription and over the counter medications as well as exercise and stretching (ie, for back pain treated by physical therapist). Grade A. Billing and Administration: I have never had an issue with HVMA accepting my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. I have recently changed insurance due to changing jobs, and I called Central Registration as well as Billing to have some insurance and pricing related questions answered. I talked to 3 different people on the phone, and all of them were very friendly and competent. They were unable to fully answer my questions because I was asking about specific prices for general procedures. I was told by each person that the price depended on the specific details of the diagnosis, treatment, etc, which I understood. On the plus side, they were able to give me some typical ranges about a few procedures and talk to me about some important insurance related items. Grade A.

    We really liked Dr. Souter and would highly recommend Vincent IVF. As stated above, she is all business. All the doctors we interacted with while seeking treatment were great. We only saw Dr. Souter for diagnosis and treatment advice. All doctors we saw knew all of my information, so I did not feel like this was an inconvenience. I enjoyed interacting with the different doctors. Once all the tests were run on us, I got pregnant naturally. I called in right when I found out, and the staff brought me in for betas and ultrasounds. Unfortunately, I miscarried, but the staff there was great. Their bedside manner was just what I needed at the time. After the miscarriage, I saw Dr. Souter again and we started the IUI cycle with injectables. They prescribe the injectables from Village Fertility Pharmacy in Waltham. I was monitored closely throughout the injectable cycle and all the doctors that I saw for ultrasounds answered any questions I had. The monitor/bloodwork appointments were on time and quick. They were all scheduled from 7-8:30 am or starting at 8 am on weekends, so it was very easy to go in before work or before starting your weekend day. The nurses then called promptly with instructions to change doses or stay the same. Once my follicles were mature, I received 1 IUI, with a blood test scheduled for 15 days later. The first IUI worked and I got pregnant. I went in 2-3 days later to make sure my betas had doubled, and they had. I had an ultrasound a week later to make sure implantation had occurred in my uterus. It had, and the subsequent ultrasound at 7 weeks showed the heartbeat. At this time, they released me to my OB.

    There may be a short wait (20 min?) but never very long. They do not overbook yet the Dr. spends as much time as you need with him. You never feel rushed. If I could not see my doctor, who of course I consider to be the best, I would not hesitate to to trust one of the associates. Parking is easy.

    Communication can be tough for initial contact and setting up appointments but I've heard they are working on it so fingers crossed it gets better. But nurses line is excellent and they are very quick at calling back. Location is great and parking is free and plenty available. Doctors are excellent and they offer unltrasounds and blood drawing lab right in their office so that is very convenient. Highly recommend!
