Jim and his team are professionals, friendly, and respectful of the home. His pricing was fair and he was creative working with us to keep the costs from creeping up. After the fireplace was all done, we noticed a few stones that we didn't like and thought looked weird. We called Jim and he came back to our home to talk through it with us. That day he replaced the stones and now the fireplace looks fantastic. He wants his customers to be happy and we appreciated how much he was willing to work with us. Would recommend him to others.

The service was great, easy to schedule, Bruno showed up on time to provide the quote, and Junior came by after the work was complete to make sure it was done properly. The only knock I have is that the work was delayed a couple of weeks because they originally showed up with the wrong-sized door and had to order a new one, but otherwise, MasonWorks was great.

    Metro West Chimney Service
I had had my furnace serviced and was told by the furnace man I needed work done on my chimney as the liner had slipped.
I contacted Metro West Chimney Service after finding their ad in the Angie List monthly magazine. I wasn't sure if I would be outside their area as I am located north of Boston. Metro West was very polite and stated they would be happy to come out and inspect the chimney. We set a date and time. Their service person named Gordy arrived on time and proceeded to inspect the chimney. He confirmed we needed a new liner and a couple of other small improvements. He gave us a written estimate and I scheduled the appointment that day for the repair. Again, Gordy arrived at my home right on time and proceeded with the installation of the liner and the repairs.  The repair was finished on a very timely basis and I  couldn't be happier. Gordy was very personable, very polite and very respectful. He even took the time to fill out my warranty card with all the information needed so all I need to do is drop it in the mail. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and I greatly appreciate the fact Gordy was willing to travel the distance he did to service my home. Metro West Chimney Service is an A+ as far as I am concerned and so is Gordy

    Jim Sullivan Masonry
When we had our home inspected our inspector found that the partition wall was missing in our smoke box. We did not have enough time to have a mason come look at it but I contacted Jim via email to ask him about this issue. Jim was good about getting back to me and assuring us that it could be fixed and that it shouldn't break the bank. We decided to purchase the home and while doing some work we found that most of the stone facade was no longer attached to the fireplace. We called Jim to have him take a look at it. He said it would cost $100 to inspect our chimney but if we used him for work on the chimney that the $100 would go towards that bill. Luckily Jim found no other issues with our chimney except that the critter cage was separating a bit so he quickly fixed that. Jim said that extending the partition and rebuilding the stone facade would cost $1,500 and take one and a half days but that he wouldn't be available for 6 to 8 weeks. We decided to go with him because we thought the cost sounded reasonable and because other masons we had talked to previously said they couldn't even look at our chimney for weeks. When it came time to have the work done is when we ran into some issues. Jim originally said they would start on the day after Columbus day but then later told us that they would start on Columbus day but then on Columbus day he told us his associate didn't want to work on Columbus day so they would start around noon on the following day. This wasn't a big deal as it seemed like one guy decided he wanted to start early while the other wanted to take the holiday. Unfortunately, they didn't come the day after Columbus day either. There were several dropped calls that day and when I finally got in touch with Jim it was mid afternoon and he informed me that another job took too long and he wouldn't be able to start until the following day. He also told me at this point that the job would take three days instead of one and a half. They started on Wednesday but were unable to continue on Thursday because of a rainstorm. Unfortunately there was now a hole in our chimney and in the wall around the fireplace before a rainstorm was supposed to hit. I decided to cover the hole in the chimney with plastic to be safe. The following day Jim and his associate came back to finish the job. Unfortunately I came back to find that I had some cleaning to do. In the end they did a good job at a good price from what we can tell and in the number of days originally quoted. However, he pushed back the start date a couple of times, changed his mind on how long it would take, didn't think of covering the hole in our chimney before a rainstorm and left a bit of a mess. Since quality of work and price are most important we'd consider him for future work but may look into other masons as well.

Jeff's crew, including his crew chief Bruno, were consummate professionals. They were timely, polite, friendly and did a good job of cleaning up the site after finishing work each day. The ~550 square foot patio they laid out with pavers looks fantastic - they paid attention to small details in craftsmanship while installing the granite stairway and latticework cabinet under our breezeway, and did a great job in grading the dirt and laying grass seed along the edges. There were no delays in the timeframe they gave us. The job came out much better looking than we could have anticipated and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to a friend/neighbor.

Replaced a wall with masonry, paneled inside wall, replaced windows, door frame, plumbing for damaged radiator, used stucco, paint, polyurethane to inside panels, removed debris, plus all the minor things this repair entailed.
Mat always responded to my emails or telephone calls which is very important to me. He was only $200 over the estimate which I thought very good. His staff were very polite and responded to all requests. I was very happy with this construction group.

Job went well; Jim and team showed up exactly when they said they would, on time and always worked a full day.  He and his workers were always polite while on site, which is especially good b/c we have young kids.  The work was done well, and Jim was very good to work with.

He comes across as a nice guy and I felt like he was really going to help us out and get things done properly. We told him our budget which was 8000, and that we could not go over that. We were assured that he'd be able to do everything within budget, and get it done right. It looked great the first day or two. They were very punctual each day and polite.

Overall the work seems sufficient. But there were some things that soured the experience. In the crawlspace area, he had done a thorough evaluation and we decided on three lally columns and two 4x6 beams to be added. When I checked the work, only two lally columns and 1 4x6 beam was added (the 4x6 beam was two 2x6 glued together by the way, which seems low grade to me but I'm not an expert so maybe this is sufficient). After asking him about it, he assured me that after looking at it again, that was all that was needed. This is fine but it seemed as he had no intention of adjusting the price for the labor and materials. I had to mention it a few times. He ended up cutting 300 off the price, but now this seems a little low to me considering the total cost.

A vapor barrier was to be laid down in the crawl space prior to concreting the area in with a new 3 inch slab. This was not done as I had found when checking the work one morning. The worker doing to work had no idea about the vapor barrier when I asked. When I asked Anthony he said the grade was too steep and the concrete would slip down. He assured me that the Silpro Seal Coat he was using as a water-proofer on top was a sufficient vapor barrier. Again, maybe this is fine, but it's not what was originally discussed and I was not informed prior to it being done.

The overall work on the walls seem sufficient.  A little sloppy looking in some areas though. They obviously spilled a large amount of concrete on the floor in one area and made an attempt to clean it. I was never told by anyone, but it is obvious. They missed some areas and holes that I had to point out a few times. Even after completion I found small areas and holes not filled. He had tried to tell me that they were small areas and that I could easily patch these myself. I thought that's why I hired him. He said he would have someone out to complete it, but that has yet to happen. He has not returned multiple phone calls and emails regarding it. We had also discussed performing some work at the bulkhead and nothing was done from what I can see. After reviewing the contract nothing was specifically stated about it, so I don't have much of an argument, but I feel a little lead on as we discussed doing some work to seal it and waterproof it.

The windows seem good so far, and look nice. The sump pit is a little different. There was an original square pit about 1'x1' and maybe 18 inches deep. The contract stated a new polyplastic sump pit to be installed replacing the old one. He stated in would be bigger, somewhere around 2'x2' and about 2' deep, lined with a polyplastic drum and with a locking cap we could access. He was considering moving the location but stayed with the original. He said that they had a tough time excavating the area and kept the original depth of the pit as well. We also have a radon mitigation system with a suction point in the sump pit, so keeping it sealed was needed, and an additional plastic cover was screwed in over the exposed area in the center in order to seal the pit. About a week later we had a lot of rain. The walls were better but we still had water in the basement. I decided to check the sump to see how it was doing. When I opened to cap, there was no new pit. He excavated just enough to place a cap in the floor. Basically I have a cap and some new PVC. I obviously made the mistake of not unscrewing the coverings and checking the pit while he was there. I made another call to ask about this. I feel that I should at least be reimbursed for the labor not done to excavate the pit. He has yet to return my calls. I'm not expecting to hear from him...

Overall I'm satisfied with most of the work. The crawlspace is a huge improvement. The new support is noticeable in the kitchen. The walls seem much improved compared to how they were although it hasn't solved our water problem. The windows are nice and are a definite upgrade. I'm a little put off by the things I mentioned above though. In the end I feel like we ended up overpaying, and I don't think I'd be comfortable using him again.

Jeff's team showed up early, worked late, hardly stopped for lunch and treated us with great respect and courtesy. We were supposed to trim back the bushes before they started work, but when that didn't happen, they did the pruning for us at no charge with no complaints. The finished steps are beautiful, a huge improvement over the previous steps, and really added curb appeal to the house. We would recommend them to anyone!
