    TKG Services LLC
Extremely pleased with TKG Services' work, once again. This project involved four exterior door and storm door installation, building a small roof and column supports over our front entrance, and removing an old support column to another existing roof. Tom and I talked through the project up front, as there were a number of approaches we could take, and I am extremely happy with his guidance as well as the results. As usual, he helped us through every step of the process, made us aware of choices in materials and aesthetic choices for the doors, and accomplished everything on time and on budget. Given the HUGE improvement it made to updating our front entrance (on a very busy and visible street), it was an exceptional value. I also appreciate that TKG took this job on for us--it wasn't a huge project, and I know some companies won't do "small jobs" like this. Tom and Chris did an outstanding job, and we keep getting compliments from our neighbors on the new look.

    K&R Contractors
Ken was great to work with. From the beginning he was fair and clear with the estimate and stayed within it. During the work, he brought to our attention some other problems that after review clearly needed attention. His prices are competitive and his work is exemplary with a detail that impressed us.  We felt comfortable with him in our house and he made a point to keep us updated on the work. We would highly recommend Ken for an estimate and contracted work.

    The Norden Company Builders
We pretty much remodeled our entire first floor and built an extension with two new bedrooms and a family room on our second floor. It was a huge project and involved a wide range of tasks.

On the first floor Dutch and his team opened up all the walls including load bearing walls, gutted the kitchen and bathroom completely, took out the old hardwood floors and even took out the old ceilings. They then installed supporting beams to replace the load bearing walls, redid all the plumbing and electrical needed for the kitchen and bathroom, insulated the outer walls, built cabinets for the kitchen, completely renovated the bathroom which included installation of bathtub, vanity and marble tile work. New ceilings were put in and pot lights were installed along with cabinet lighting and island lighting. Lastly the new hardwood floors were nailed in.

On the second floor, a whole new section with two bedrooms and a family room was built. We also had washer/dryer hookups installed in a second floor bathroom. Roofing, heating, and chimney extension were also a part of this work.

Overall we are very happy with Dutch and his team's work. The reason we chose dutch to begin with is because he is experienced and most of all honest. He had previously worked for two of my friends remodeling their bathrooms and kitchen. This is the first time we did a huge remodel and my biggest criteria for choosing a contractor was someone who was reliable and honest. Dutch spent a lot of time with us initially figuring out the details of what we wanted, gave us a quote for the work and stuck to it. We asked him to do a number of additional things, and he did all of the smaller items within the budget. For larger tasks, e.g. bathroom remodel, new front door installation (which required cutting parts of the the cement foundation), electrical work ordered by the home inspector Dutch gave us additional quotes. All payments, other than an initial downpayment was made once each task was completed. Dutch and his team worked on this renovation project every day for almost 5 months.

    Len Gibely Contracting
We had big problem! A 20 year old roof that was missing shingles and rotted rake and trim boards. Also, missing clapboards on the house, some rotted windowsills and a major rot/carpenter ant problem around our garage doors. We contacted Len Gibely after reading great reviews and seeing the variety of services they offered.
They did not disappoint! Brian (owner) responded almost immediately to my request for a quote. He spent quite a bit of time and was very patient answering all questions. He wrote up an estimate that day. I contacted him in mid November and after getting a few more bids, I called on Dec 2nd to let him know we would like his company to do the job. He came back and , again answered all questions and brought sample boards of shingles. He explained they were committed to some jobs and their schedule is very weather dependent,he thought they could  start in early January.
Between snow and cold, the job was actually started on March 7,2014, we had been contacted apologizing for the delay.Between the snow and cold, I was surprised they could do it then, our yard was snow covered, snow was still on our roof. The carpenters started first on the garage, Scott (foreman) and John were friendly, pleasant to deal with and extremely particular about their work. Justin replaced clapboards and other trim boards around the house.  The garage ended up being a much bigger job than anticipated, they actually re-built the garage door wall from the ground to three quarters of the way up, new studs, Tyvek, clapboards, trim boards etc. They found an ant nest, and explained certain problems that existed due to poor construction when the house was built. We also had them replace our front steps with composite decking, this was not included in the original estimate. When the roofing crew showed up on the second day, Jeff (foreman) explained they would be shoveling the roof, tarps would be going up and they would be cleaning up any mess everyday when they were done. Brian came everyday to check in with Scott and Jeff and discuss any new details with me. Scott came and worked a full day on a Saturday when the garage repair became extensive and Jeff did as well, to work on the roof. They were great at explaining what they were doing and why. Gutters were re-aligned, that had been installed incorrectly, most of a window frame was replaced and some other trim that was rotted. Some things were added as new issues were found but, I was asked about everything.
In the end, our garage looks great and we love the look of our new roof. The only reason for B grade on price is it was expensive. That said, I do feel you get what you pay for, we don't have a basic pitched roof. We have gables, dormers, farmer's porch and lots of nooks and crannies. We had gotten cheaper quotes for the roof only but, the repairs were so involved, I could not imagine trying to co-ordinate a separate roofer and carpenter. They were meticulous about their work and clean-up. Snow and ice were still around the house, these guys were trying to pick nails out of snowbanks! Brian told me to call once they snow melted and they will come back for a final clean-up. He also had a window screen replaced that had been damaged. We are very satisfied and pleased with the work.

    Coen Construction
Took down a dividing wall that required a new support beam. Initial wall demo and support beam done quickly. Issues started in the basement. Needed new posts in the basement. To do the work Scott had to cut out the concrete floor. Must have done this with a dry saw. Entire basement was covered in concrete dust. No attempt to cover anything was made including washer dryer and all stored items some of which was removed from upstairs to avoid the work in the living room. Pouring the concrete also left very uneven floor around the posts. Will have to be corrected if ever wanting to upgrade basement. Lastly the drywall repairs ceiling and some walls. Scott had to be told that the layers of mud needed to be sanded down to be considered paint ready as per our contract. Most was corrected but many corners and details left in poor condition His contractor for flooring was ok. Took 4 days longer due to double booking. Some wood slats were placed unevenly creating noticeable low and high pieces. Used Scott because he had an opening quickly but it was probably not worth it.

    RED APPLE RENOVATIONS
We are just beginning the process.  We have met with the owner, Chris, twice and we were very impressed by his professionalism and approach to the job.  He was very thorough in all of the information provided and excellent at explaining all the small details.  He has a background in business or law in addition to construction and we felt that showed (in a positive way).  His office staffer who we spoke to was also very professional and helpful and we have found all communication thus far to be excellent with the company.  They even called to notify us when they were running 5 minutes late for a scheduled meeting and sent out an email when their phones were down for a morning.  As our basement is currently completely unfinished space we were looking for someone who also could do the design work and Chris works with a designer, Sabina, who handles that.
We talked to 8 different builders/remodelers while getting estimates for this job and we were convinced that Chris was going to be the highest, or among the highest, but we were pleasantly surprised when his quote came in right in the middle of the pack.  He was our clear favorite before we got the estimate and thus it was an easy choice to pick him after we had all the estimates.
I will be back and update this review again when the work is complete, but at the current time I would recommend Red Apple based on our experience thus far.

    Little Bay Restoration & Design
They hired a plasterer to plaster the walls as it was not dry wall. When the AMERICAN DRY BASEMENT SYSTEMS came in they cut out about 2feet of the tile floor all around the perimeter so Little Bay Restoration & Design went out and got contrasting tiles as we could not match the tiles and they laid the new tiles all around the edge. They did an excellent job of matching up lines, little things like that and they hung a new door for me. They pretty much made it a designed room. They made it livable. They put coupling on the stairs too. When we pulled up the old stuff that was on the wooden stairs, which was hard wood; it was so discolored that it was obvious that we had to do something so they very nicely put down a runner which I went and picked out They were very good about did I want to go out and pick up the stuff or whether I wanted them to get it and stuff like that. They were constantly consulting on what we wanted to do. They turned into friends practically. I was kidding them about living here. Their work was wonderful I love them. They could move in here anytime. They were very good at taking it out and putting it back in a different way if I was not happy. I have to call them now they need to come back. We knew this is going to happen. They need to do some finish work as they could not 100% finish it until the baseboard heating was put back in. They could not get into the cellar as there was a feet of snow then in the backyard. I would recommend them for anyone.
