  • Called Derrick at the beginning of July to get a quote for painting our condo which was probably never repainted since it was built. When I spoke to Derrick on the phone I told him we had a very tight schedule as we had floors being installed the last week  of July and we needed him to be finished by Thursday evening of the week of the 25th and we agreed to meet that Saturday morning.
Derrick stopped by on time that Saturday and we walked through all the work that needed to be accomplished. Derrick made many suggestions that would give us flexibility in terms of pricing. He also told me he could get the job done on time even though we had a very tight schedule and he did not have a lot of lead time for getting this scheduled. I believe Derrick mention he has a team of 10 painters working for him and he delivered on his commitment to start and complete the job on time.
Since we had ripped out all the old carpeting Derrick was able to spray paint the whole condo including the ceilings and baseboards with our brand of paint and they then did all the trim work by hand in the same color but in semi gloss and the place looks amazing!!
Derrick also has a workshop where his guy did an amazing job painting all the cabinet doors. The man is a master of spraying and quite possibly an artist with a spray gun!
While a few small things were missed we called Derrick and came out right away and walked through the job and had his team come by and finished anything that was missed.
We would recommend and use Derrick in the future.

  • Each phase of the project covered a different floor or set of rooms in the house. The finished basement had a texture which we discovered had to be removed. This was not in his estimate but he did the work without extra charge. He knew which rooms would require multiple coats and which didn't resulting in very little left over paint. The kitchen was painted over Thanksgiving while we were away at our home on Cape Cod. It is a very large kitchen with an extensive amount of cutting in and trim. Not only did the kitchen (along with all the other rooms) come out perfect but it turns out that Tony loves animals and was kind enough to take care of Gus our cat while we were away. We were extremely pleased with the work - so much so that we asked him to do work at our Cape Cod houses.Note Tony is old school in every way and does not frequently use the internet so do not expect to find awebsite for his business. Give him a call and he will promptly get back to you.

  • Dean was recommended to us by a paint color consultant in the local area.  We got 3 other quotes, he was the most reasonable $4200 plus paint cost which he approximated at $850.  His reasonable quote, combined with the fact that he was very likeable when he came to quote the work and  the fact that he was highly recommended by this color consultant let us to choose Kini painting.   We had a deadline to get the project done by the end of June as we were having our new carpeting installed upstairs and having guests on July 4th.  Dean emailed me that if he could start on June 15th then he would work weekends and get it done by June 29-30.  He asked for 1/3  to start (which we sent him promptly), 1/3 at two weeks and   1/3 at  completion.  We showed  up to meet him at the house the weekend that he was going to get going (he was delayed by a few days)  When we arrived to our big surprise he had purchased all of the paint in advance without getting final consultation from myself as to which colors I was finally going with.  He had gone to the color consultant and gotten the information from her.  Since I had met with her, I decided not to go with many of her colors and had told him this over the phone.  He had plenty of work to do, ceilings, new woodwork to prime etc. before even worrying about the wall colors.  He agreed that I would not have to pay for any paint that I didn't want which was fine.  He also went ahead and purchased all Muralo paint when I wanted Benjamin Moore.  So this is how we started out.    He seemed to paint the ceilings fine throughout the home but he got way behind over the 2 week period that he was supposed to be completing the work and was still madly trying to finish the upstairs just a few days prior to my carpeting installation date.  I spent the last week of June in the area at my friend's house so I could oversee his progress as well as many other things that needed to happen in the house that week.  He showed up late morning routinely.  Once he started to paint my new wood doors and the walls upstairs I could see that he was doing very sloppy fast work.  The doors were streaky and his lines around the top of the room weren't very straight.  I have employed several painters before and never experienced this quality of work.  When I would point things out he would get very defensive.  He kept telling me how he was going to "lose big time" on this job.  He over committed what he could accomplish in that period of time. He claimed that he was going to have someone else helping him and he never did. Prior to the start of the work I asked him to kindly remove my new hardware off my doors prior to painting, he just taped over the hinges and now I have to find a way to get the paint off. After 2 weeks he asked me for the other 1/3 of the money even though he wasn't even 2/3 done.  He was supposed to be finished by the end of 2 weeks.  He started hounding me for the money but he didn't really have 2/3 of the work done. We wrote him another check when we saw that he had finished the second floor just in time for the carpet install or so I thought.  The next day when I inspected the work after it had dried I could see that I wasn't doing to be happy with the quality of his work in the end and that I needed to end this.  At this point he had cashed our second check and he was gone for the July 4th weekend.  I moved all of his painting tools and ladders etc. into the garage and left him a message.  I told him he could pick up his tools from the unlocked garage but that we would not be resuming the work as planned for the following week. We wanted to meet with him the next weekend.  He came over the next weekend thinking everything was fine.  We showed him the work that we were unhappy with and he claimed that he still had another coat to do.  AT  his point my carpets were installed and I had no interest in continuing on with this fellow to see if he could fix his mistakes I wanted to hire another painter.  We told him that we felt that we overpaid him by $650.00 and he said, "it may take me awhile but I will repay you".  August went by, nothing.  We called him mid September to remind him of his promise to repay us and he said he would get it to us by the end of September, we never received anything.  I emailed him our address several times and to remind him of his committment to repay to no avail.  We ended up hiring another local painter Angelo Aquino painting to fix the upstairs work and finish the downstairs.  We couldn't have been happier with his work, a true professional.  In the end however we paid more for the painting because we had to have 2 painters involved.  We want our $650.00 reimbursed to us from Kini's Quality painting.
