Masonry reviews in Newton Upper Falls

  • Bill came out to give as estimate and quoted thousands of dollars less than other companies we'd spoken to. He was very knowledgeable about the issues involved and what would be needed to do the repair. He did not try to replace the wall with mortar and cinder-blocks with a rock facade. He started work the next day and finished quickly.

  • E&S are professional masonry engineers. They are good in design, punctual with the schedule, and skillful with the stones and the concrete. The retaining wall is sturdy and survived well from the big trucks of a pavement company. The stairs are wider than before, and more easy for aged people to go up and down. It has a complete new look. The small platform was my most concern. With years of raining, it was no longer flat and not safe. Now, it is filled with concrete. Again, it is sturdy. E&S are enthusiastic with the works. And they are interesting guys. It is really happy to work with them

  • Ted responded promptly when I purchased the deal. He came exactly when he said he would. He gave me his opinion and showed me various options but I decided I was going to have to wait. His strength is brick work, although I did not want brick stairs. If anyone would want brick stairs, I believe he would be a strong candidate.

  • Excellent! I contacted John in March to quote my project (one of three masons I had quote my project). He was headed off for family vacation the morning after he came over and was able to deliver the quote to me that night before leaving for vaca (amazing!). John was very knowledgeable and patient with my questions. I had a hodge-podge of walkway photos and he seemed to easily get what I was trying to do with our 150 year old house. I wanted solid granite and brick! And, I was a bit picky about color! The work began a two weeks after we gave John the green light. JD Masonry is a family business ... John's dad and uncle and a bunch of cousins are masons and do the work, which I really liked. I picked John because he was the most on point in answering my questions, which gave me confidence. This was a big project for us! The work began as agreed and the crew was on-time throughout the project. John was very responsive during the project to my emails and questions. We have a small yard, so it was necessary for them to pile up their materials on our grass, and my husband got a bit nervous about what was going on. They did use tarps and boards so that there were no dents in the grass ... and when my husband called John about it, he was very reassuring that the lawn would have minimal damage. Considering how much "stuff" was on our lawn, we were doubtful, but John was right...no major damage at all (considering the cement mixer, the bob cat, giant slabs of granite, all the brick and cinder blocks, piles of sand/rock ... oye!! ... it's a miracle, but they knew what they were doing :)). One thing that is especially noteworthy: I have these giant (!!) puffy evergreen shrubs right in front of the main landing. While I have no love for the shrubs (they are getting ripped out next year, I hope), I didn't want them to be damaged as they're all I've got for greenery in front of the door right now. Well, we discussed having to trim them back a bit as there was just no other way and no place for the masons to work to get the landing in (and I understood), but what ended up happening was magic! I knew they were working on the landing as I was home that day. I didn't want to peek for fear I would be upset with how the shrubs looked ... when I came out, the landing was in and the shrubs were perfectly enact. John's cousin had CRAWLED through the bottom of the shrubs and constructed the wall without cutting anything. Truly amazing ... and above and beyond!!
So, overall, these guys are A++. My walkway and steps are just so stunning! The quality of their work is clear. I wish I could upload photos! Oh, and the stone wall they fixed ... amazing! They put it back together perfectly (it has a rustic sort of look) and didn't damage my ancient peonies that live along the wall.

  • Peter was prompt and on time for the estimate and on time every day he and his team performed the work.  Even when a day was lost to hurricane Sandy, Peter put in the extra hours to finish before week end.  Thanks
    again!

  • The work was absolutely superb! They took their time to do everything right, letting the foundation, cement and water proofer dry properly before proceeding to the next stage. The appropriate wood pieces in the framing were replaced. The site was kept clean all the time, and their work was extremely well-organized. The quality of their final plastering was excellent.
I dealt with many contractors over the years, but Marcello really showed superior professionalism, ideas and skills and his crew had by far the best craftsmanship. I am now preparing other projects that I will ask them to do. If they are busy, I will wait until he can take my projects.

  • Charles was very prompt with quoting. His prices are very fair. He performed the work as discussed and even cleaned up around the area and the yard to make sure it was clean before he left. We also received quotes for other masonry work which we will consider hiring him to work on later on. Charles is very polite, honest, cleans up after the work is done, had been on time for quoting, and when he came to do the work.

  • Was supposed to meet me for an appointment, no phone call to cancel, and when contacted he refused to give me an estimate claiming that he had given me one a year ago. Not sure what that is about. Ironically his cousin Dhimiter was responsive and came to give me an estimate a few days after I called.

  • They came and worked swiftly to build some new steps of weathered looking brick that went along attractively with the old brick of my home. They worked hard in cold weather and built a special 'tent' to keep the materials warm so they could finish before the onset of winter. Mr. Pine is very knowledgeable about all aspects of stone and brickwork and takes time to explain what he plans to do. He also gives options for the design. His workers are industrious and polite. Our steps look beautiful!
