Eyeglass Repair reviews in Newton Highlands

  • The wrong size bridge was used (2 mm too wide), causing severe vision problems. When we complained, the proprietor insisted that there must have been a change in prescription, because the size of the bridge does not matter. This was, of course, absurd. The glasses had been fine a few days earlier, before the bridge broke, and suddenly did not work. We went elsewhere to get the correct bridge, after which vision returned to normal. To their credit, when we went back to report that the new bridge provided by another optician had solved the problem, we were given a refund.

I am posting this review only now because I just discovered a similar problem with another pair of glasses from Highland Opticians. My most recent glasses have been the least satisfactory I have ever had. I just discovered that if I prop them a little higher off my nose, they work fine. Apparently the optic axes of the lenses do not align properly with the pupils and lenses of my eyes. So this is another example of the proprietor's not understanding that the alignment of lenses with eyes is important. Unfortunately, the frames cannot be adjusted to sit higher (the lenses should have been ground differently), so I will have to get new glasses -- which I certainly will not do at Highland Opticians.

  • I started with Rudy Project glasses. Although they were very nice, the $700 price was more than I wanted to spend. When I told the person that I needed glasses that were less money, they guided me to Oakley which are also very fine glasses for bicycling. They explained all the options with transition (i.e. photochromic), polarized, etc. They wanted to be sure the frames I picked would be fit with my bicycle helmet, a factor I had not considered. They told me the glasses would take a week. A week later, they called me to say I could come pick them up. They are experts in this business and act professionally with their customers.

  • They were attentive and showed me number of frames in price range, I was interested in. They honored the discount I was entitled to through my health plan. They promised it would be done with in a week. They called in four days even though one of them was a holiday. The glasses were done and were good. They said I should try it for a week and then come back if I needed adjustments. I was back there in ten days for a small adjustment which they did. They also gave me tips about my usage which were helpful. Three different people helped me at my three trips and the work was flawless. I left a happy customer.

  • Highland Opticians is a long standing local eye wear business, and like many local businesses, service here is a strength. I was helped immediately, and guided to frames that suited me. Even though I may have tried on every pair of glasses in the store, the staff was friendly and patient, and explained the options for lenses in a clear manner, without trying to sell me something more expensive than I needed. This company does take insurance, which partially covered the cost of the glasses. Most importantly, when I have needed to have my frames tightened or adjusted in any way, they do this for free and quickly. Highly recommended (as well as accessible by T, decent parking, and near a good coffee place, Lincoln St. Coffee).
