    Maize Restoration & Remodeling
It went really well. We liked the idea of first engaging Maize restoration to scope the project throughly before committing to using them for the actual renovation. The process involved a few on site meetings (at our house) and several hours of detailed information gathering by Chase, Maize's president. We were pleased with the result of a couple of lifelike 'photos' of the completed bathroom and a roadmap of how we'd proceed. Chase "got it." Based on this, we have engaged Maize for the remodeling and we look forward to working with them on that project. Chase had come highly recommended by a couple of colleagues. We have interviewed a number of contractors for the project and we found that Maize's CPE gave us the confidence that they understood what we needed and would be good to work with. Chase was punctual, knowledgeable, and dare I say fun to work with.

    Newton Kitchens and Design
Before I walked into proprietor/designer Pierre Matta's showroom, I had seen the work of more than a dozen kitchen design stores. None appealed to me. The instant I walked through the door of Pierre's showroom, I knew this place was completely different. Every model kitchen looked beautifully designed and impeccably crafted. Unfortunately, they also looked so high end, I assumed that they would all be prohibitively expensive. The very first thing I told Pierre was that I loved everything but probably could not afford anything. He said that while it was true that his prices would not be comparable with Lowe's, Home Depot, etc., I might be surprised how affordable it could be. I liked the fact that he seemed interested in my business but was not remotely high pressure. I was not surprised to discover that Pierre is a craftsman himself, designing and producing his own extraordinary custom furniture. He was a contractor so he knew every end of the project. The cabinetry is custom manufactured by his company here in Massachusetts and he was extremely helpful in selecting and ordering a complementary back splash, counter top, and hardware. Pierre is meticulous with the smallest, most thoughtful details. He made many recommendations that made all the difference in the world aesthetically and functionally yet kept the project within budget. This was probably one of the smaller budget projects Pierre worked on, yet he approached it as if he were designing his own kitchen, investing his time and talent generously. He also recommended an excellent contractor not only to install the kitchen but to renovate the rest of the condo, and leveraged his strong ties with top-notch merchants for hardware, countertops, etc. The work speaks for itself, far exceeding my wildest expectations and adding real value to the condo. In the crowded space of kitchen design, Pierre's gifts as a designer and craftsman, the personalized approach he took, and the time he invested put him in a league of his own.

    Tom Curren Companies
Fortunately, it didn't "go." I found out about this company before I had written a check and it was too late. It was a classic bait-and-switch. The estimator came out to view my condo. At first, I was impressed that she took a lot of time to take notes, go through the unit, and offer recommendations, but I was suspicious that she kept trying to steer me toward doing more work with her company than I was prepared to. She represented the company as primarily a contractor but also tried to discourage me from buying my own kitchen cabinetry as a way to sell me the materials and pocket the profit. However, when I made it clear that I was purchasing my own materials and asked if they were interested in acting as the contractor for the other projects beside the kitchen, she said that she was and engaged me in a two-week email correspondence supposedly leading to an estimate. She even had me email an estimate from a competitor, supposedly so that she could provide a competitive bid. But the day before she was scheduled to visit, I received an email to cancel the visit, explaining that they were a "soup to nuts" business. That would have been fine if she had represented the business that way from the beginning. Instead, she inexplicably strung me along, possibly to extract information from competitors or try and pressure me into buying materials from their company. I emailed her to ask why she agreed to make a bid on the contract work only if they only work with customers who buy their materials. No reply. I called the managing director of the company to relay the interaction. She sounded interested and assured me that she would call me back the next day after investigating. After leaving a half-dozen messages to try and follow up, I finally gave up. In retrospect, I am relieved that I found out how this company really conducts itself before investing a large sum in a significant project. I hope readers will benefit from my experience and avoid this unprofessional, disreputable business.

    FREITAS CUSTOM CARPENTRY
Steve does high-quality work, and his foreman was great to work with and kept the job moving. They would have finished early if not for delays on cabinetry and plumbing, none of which were his fault. I would definitely hire Steve again.

    B & B AFFORDABLE RENOVATIONS INC
We are very happy with the final product. It was a large project, with a unique design and not the usual cookie cutter house. Everything is custom and the contractor has done a fantastic job. The overall character of the design was understood by the contractor and the 'contemporary' theme was carried out as per our wishes. The finishes are neat, clean, and top class- showroom quality! Moreover, the contractor, Bill, provided extremely valuable input and recommendations which improved the existing plans, resulting in an astounding state of the art dwelling. The entire project consisted of a large two story addition with full foundation, a large picture window with a window seat, roof, skylights, grand open foyer, cathedral ceilings in living room, dining room, gym, master bedroom suite with custom bathroom and dual walk-in closets, kitchenette with laundry, and custom office. The open plan kitchen has custom cabinets and quartz countertops. In fact, the custom office area was originally wasted space and thanks to Bills foresight and recommendations, the wasted space was transformed into a unique office area, overlooking the first floor living room. Bill is a very nice guy and easy to work with. He was always asking to make sure that we are happy with the work done. He ensured that the final product was to our liking and satisfaction. Bill was also considerate when we wanted some changes in the design and we worked it out with relevant and appropriate 'change orders'. Bill is extremely knowledgeable and professional and he is also flexible to accommodate your perspective. Bill and his company is the best choice for any construction project. In fact, we are hiring Bill for our next project, the basement.

Dan's Handyman Carpentry & Property Mgmt Services
I work as a professional real estate appraiser and make it a practice to document remodel/renovation costs when I come across a recently renovated property(very often). Borrowers will also often relate their contractor horror stories. The experience we had working with Dan and his pricing for the project were both exceptional. I noticed a credit on one of my earliest invoices related to the bathroom and asked Dan why the price was lowered. He responded that the electrician was able to utilize the existing dryer wiring from the kitchen and wouldn't need to run it to the main panel in the basement two floors below. We never would have known about that line item and it was a substantial credit back to us. It also told me that I could trust him throughout the other phases of the project. He continually looked for areas to save us money instead of looking to tack on "extras." Fore example, Dan's team installed 14 new windows throughout for less than half of what I was quoted from a window company. Via online research, I found out they were high quality windows as well. Still, I insisted on seeing them before installation as they were not a big name brand and I couldn't believe the savings. Dan sent me to the Koopman's showroom in Sharon, MA. After ten minutes of the salesperson there trying to up-sell me, he admitted to having the very windows Dan was recommending in his own home "for 20 years now" and that they were just as good as the highly marketed brands. Dan was excellent in communicating with us throughout. He was extremely thorough and organized with his subcontractors. Lastly, I'm not big into writing reviews but I feel like Dan and his crew deserve the small portion of time and effort. We look forward to having him come back for our master bathroom in the near future!

    Cromer Remodeling
Don't bother wasting your time with this guy. He came to my home to supposedly write up a estimate but that never happened, After a week I contacted him and he said he would get it to me the next day. NEVER HAPPENED. This isn't the first time he has done this if you read some of his one star reviews.

Jeff Veglia Remodeling & Tile Contracting
I am so pleased with the result.  Jeff responded to my initial outreach immediately, and once into the project he continued to be just as involved and responsive.  I was extremely impressed with everyone he brought into to work on the project.  They were friendly, professional and accommodating and all seemed to have been in the business and worked together for many years.  They were helpful in offering suggestions when I asked for them, and Jeff came up with some great solutions to a tricky bathroom.  It's an old house, the footprint of the bathroom is small and has slanted ceilings we had to work around.  Elvis did a spectacular job with the tiling working around all the angles and making everything perfect.  The overall result seems much more spacious and modern.   In addition to Elvis, Gary, the electrician and Bruce, the glass man who also created a custom mirror for us were also great to work with.  Jeff was very realistic in the time projection for the project.  We couldn't be happier and I would strongly recommend them.

The Scipione Group LLC Building & Remodeling
We hired the Scipione Group after Jeff Scipione came last July and gave us an estimate. Not only was his estimate well below the previous estimate we had obtained, but he figured out better ways to solve several problems. They started the work in late October just when they said they would and finished it early. We were especially impressed by the whole crew's ability to deal with unexpected situations, including rotten wood where water had seeped in behind the broken concrete ramp and porch and a rotten frame around another door. The finished porch is not only functional but beautiful, which is more than we expected. They customized it to us, putting the railing just where I needed it. We were delighted that they could take the time to solve other problems, including leaky gutters. Jeff came back after the inspector had signed off on the job just to make sure everything was perfect; he even realigned a door that we knew tended to stick but hadn't been part of the paid job at all. These are really nice people who can be trusted to complete a job with professionalism and efficiency--and at an affordable price.
