    A-Tec Chimney Sweep
We bought our home in the fall of 2018, a 100+ year old colonial with great bones and a lot of small projects to take care of. The house had been in the same family since it was built, and we had two older chimneys that needed capping and some masonry work that our home inspector said should be addressed right away. The folks at A-Tec were great to work with, fast, and super friendly. The quote they gave us over the phone was exactly what we ended up paying. They even gave me some advice on a couple of other projects they saw me working though on my own, as a first-time home owner. I would recommend them without hesitation.

    Masonry & More Inc
I can not speak highly enough of this contractor. He was responsive (even came out to give me a quote on a holiday), fit me into his tight schedule, gave me a good price AND after the work was done told me it went much quicker than anticipated, and he gave me a refund of some of the money. Has anyone ever heard of a contractor giving a refund because the job was quicker/easier than anticipated? The owner (Cartegian Santos) was the most polite, professional contractor I've encountered in a long time. We discussed the work needed, clearly indicating his experience with this work. He showed up on time for the estimate, texted the morning of the work to tell me when he was leaving and that he would be a little late because of traffic, went over the job again with me and his workers, and cleaned up thoroughly when the work was done. As stated above, he even contacted me the next day to offer a refund of a portion of the cost due to the job being quicker and easier than he estimated. If you EVER need any masonry work done, I strongly encourage using this contractor. I already told him that once I finish one side of the basement, I'll be calling him back to repair the walls on the opposite side! (In the 'before' picture, you can see the crumbling wall below the window; in the two 'after' pictures you can see that all the loose material was removed, and a parge coat of cement was placed over the whole damaged section of the wall)

    C. R. Hansen Construction, LLC
Overall, great. I never recommend contractors, but Chris at C.R. Hansen is fantastic. Chris cleared out the remains of an old deck, dug out the area and installed gravel and crushed stone, poured a slab, footings, and had steps installed. Then had a 16x20 patio installed and oversaw all aspects of the work. When I had a small complaint he fixed it, no questions asked. He oversaw every detail and was the guy sweeping up at the end of the day to make sure everything was done perfectly. Chris is responsive, responsible and proud of his work, and he should be. If you want it done cheap, call around. If you want it done once, call Chris.

    United Remodeling
After signing the contract with Alessandro I decided that some of the mitigation work did not need to be done. I asked for a couple of other small tasks to be completed instead of a reimbursement and we shook on it. To date he has neither done the tasks nor reimbursed me for the work not done. There were other issues as well. We had 2 of the gutters extended away from the house and he was suppose to have pop ups installed at the ends. The pops up keep the opening closed so not to let in debris when it isn't raining but "pop up" when there is enough water in the gutter and releases the rain away from the house. Alessandro told me he was going to use these "pop ups" and it was in the contract. He used grates instead. When asked about this he commented that the water can pop up out of the grates and that is what he meant. I also asked for all the grass clumps to be removed from the excavation for the patio. He said absolutely. I saw them all piled around the patio and called to make sure that all the grass clumps would get removed. He said absolutely. The next day the patio is done and all the beds look nice. Something in my gut said to check to see if he took some of the clumps away but buried the rest in the beds. Sure enough they buried what they could and took the rest away. There were a couple other issues as well. It eventually all got fixed except for the pop ups and I'm still waiting for the reimbursement for the significant amount of work not done. I did not find that United paid attention to details and tried to cut corners where they could. I almost forgot that when I gave United my selection for pavers, I feel they tried to force me into a different selection although the choice was part of the contract. My selection was a pretty standard choice but I feel United tried to steer me into a cheaper product. I will never recommend United to anybody.

    Lourival Masonry
Lourival and his crew did an excellent job designing and installing the patio. Lourival designed a bell shape patio which looks fantastic and fits the contours of the backyard. He used lifetime guaranteed Unilock pavers and it was at a great price.

The project went very well. Doug was great to work with from the beginning when he gave us a free estimate to when the job was complete. We ran into a complication once completed but Doug responded right away and came back and fixed the issue. The design and look of the new patio exceeded our expectations and we were very happy with how it all came out! I would recommend Doug and his team for any project and we can't wait to have him back to work on another one for us.

I contacted Jim Linskey during the winter and he promptly scheduled an estimate. This was several weeks before the weather would be warm enough to do the work, but Jim was able to provide an approximate date when the work could be scheduled, and they met this commitment. The project took slightly more than a week. The crew worked from 7:30 until about 2 every day and kept the outdoor area where they mixed their materials as safe and clean as possible. Inside, they were careful entering and exiting, and they did a basic cleanup (although we had to shop-vac and mop the floor thoroughly before putting our things back). We have seen the impact of the work immediately in terms of more consistent temperature (the area is not heated) and much less seepage during heavy rain (some of which is due to exterior issues that this job was not designed to solve). The project was expensive (though their pricing seems competitive for the type of work), and Jim was willing to work with me to scope the job so it fit our budget. My one criticism is that the crew did not ask first where to dispose of excess water or materials in the yard and dug a hole in one of my flower beds. While no damage was done, I would suggest covering this topic at the start of the job).

    Boston's Best Chimney
Technician was on time. He explained that when they come to check chimneys they also check the primary heat source. Both chimneys were determined to be clean and in good working order. The fireplace insert was noted to be the wrong size for the fireplace, rendering it unsafe for use. The wood stove did not meet code as far as distance from a fireproof wall. The technician suggested checking with the town building department to see if the stove met code when it was installed. Later, I checked with the building inspector. No permit had been pulled but he explained how to move the (small) wood stove so it would meet safety codes. Most importantly, the technician checked the gas burner and water heater and found that it had not been serviced for 4 years. Evidence of some soot leakage and taped pipes required immediate attention. This was my daughter's home and I had never looked at these important items. The technician also inspected the roof and all chimneys, openings and vents. In addition to explaining as he went along, I was also given a detailed report on all findings and recommendations.
