General Contracting reviews in Merrimac

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • We had a large, double-wide door on the second floor where the base was rotting badly and it needed to be replaced.  We received an honest and timely estimate for the work.  The estimate included extra time for problems that we would likely run into once the door was removed, due to the obvious visible rotting.  Team Handyman worked with us to keep costs down and let us perform tasks (such as clean up and minor finish work) at our request.  Frank arrived right on time and wasted no time getting to work.  He was completely diligent and professional.  There was, in fact, rotting in the frame under the door that needed to be fixed but Frank (who has something like 35 years experience) was able to fix it quickly and efficiently.  The end result was excellent and the final cost was below the estimate given, even with the extra work that was required to fix the frame.  We are very happy with the job and with Team Handyman professionalism in general.  We are now moving on to other projects that we need to have done and we will be going to Team Handyman for help.

  • We had two excellent quotes from two contractors with high marks on Angie's List. Tom Quinn's quote was higher, but we went with him because he included retrofitting soffit vents and other details regarding superior quality of materials, and warranty.
His sales presentation is very low-key, detailed, and includes photographs and samples of the key components, explaining their advantages. (He carries his entire sales kit and samples in a backpack). He explains everything efficiently at a steady pace, but not so fast that I couldn't follow. He didn't waste time on topics that were not pertinent to work I needed. And, by the way, the 50-year warranty is transferrable once, which will help when we put the house up for sale.
Tom had obtained aerial photographs of the roof that allowed him to make measurements in advance. Because of this preparation for the meeting, he was able to provide a quote on the spot. After our sales session, and the handshake agreeing to do business together, Tom went to his truck to write out the contract. Twenty minutes later I had the signed papers, and he was on his way.
The foreman, Emerson, has been working with Tom Quinn for over 20 years. Observant, easy to talk to, seemed to have a mutually-respectful relationship with the crew, and he was responsive to the few requests that I made. The crew was very professional, and worked fast and efficiently. They used harnesses and ropes for safety when necessary.
My wife's 30-year-old garden of perennials, shrubs, and ornamental trees fills a large bed on one side of the house, exactly where the old shingles would be falling. Twelve years ago, when we last had the roof replaced (with defective shingles), the crew destroyed much of the garden, which took years to recover. I discussed this past disaster with Emerson, who then consulted with his crew about how best to protect the garden. I put garden furniture, stakes, and even a large photographer's tripod, in among the most important plants. Emerson had the crew drape tarps over my make-shift structures, so the discarded shingles would slide harmlessly in between them. With this combined effort the garden was unscathed. You would never know the roofers had been there. It meant a lot to both my wife and me that they took our concern for the garden very seriously.
The work was scheduled for mid-October, but when an opening came up, he was able to fit us in a month earlier. The dumpster was delivered the day before work started, then it took two days to do the job. The dumpster was taken away the next morning. It was only half-full, so I was able to dump some useless things from the basement and behind the shed that I had been wanting to get rid of for several years?including a broken cement bird bath, and some damaged garbage cans.
The cleanup was excellent, although my neighbor who shares the driveway found a nail one morning when she took the precaution of going over the driveway with a magnet tool. Quinn's crew also went over everything repeatedly with their heavy-duty magnet on wheels. But, somehow, they missed this one stray nail that the neighbor found?that is the only negative from this big job. Quinn and his crew are as good as it gets, and I recommend them without reservation.

  • I was s told that they were licensied and insured and they were not.  The provider did not want me to pull a permit even though it needed to be done legally.  The provider requested to be paid only in cash only.   He ruined all of my cabinets and basically the entire kitchen remodel had to be re-done after his work.
