  • When I called and asked about it, they actually gave me a much bigger package, but still let me use the promotion through Angie's List. I got more than what was originally included, which I thought was really nice. They didn't charge me anything extra. They were very easy to deal with. When it came, I set it all up. It was super easy to do, and then they tested everything over the phone with me. About three months later, there was an issue with the main panel. Sometimes, I could only disable the alarm if the door was open. I called them and they patched the bug remotely right there on the phone. It's been working fine ever since. I actually like them!

  • JP O'Brien did a stellar job under quite complicated circumstances.

    The job had some surprises that were not the fault of the electricians, such as the discovery of live gas lines in the walls and ceilings (left over from when the house was lit by gas). This happened more than once, and each time it required a change to the day's schedule so that I could get a plumber to come and cap off /remove the gas lines so the electricians could finish installing a fixture. There were other, smaller surprises -- an unexpected outlet in the bottom of a closet or shoulder high behind some coats, for example, and I changed my mind about a hall fixture which they swapped out at no extra cost. With every surprise and change (I also decided I wanted to add a few outlets, fixtures, and hard-wired smoke detectors to the work plan) JP O'Brien worked with me to make the schedule work and to provide me with updated cost estimates as needed.

    Both my apartment and my tenants' apartment were very full, and the electricians had to work around a great deal of stuff (some of which I had inherited from my mother a few months earlier, and much of this was in boxes). Their willingness to work this way, and their graceful acceptance of the reality of it, turned out to be surprisingly important -- I had received estimates from electricians who said that they would require the house to be empty (which was not an option) and from electricians who seemed very reluctant to work in crowded rooms, or who seemed cross about it. JP O'Brien took the crowded nature of the place in stride, non-judgmentally and gracefully, and all the electricians who worked on this job were careful and smart about moving things carefully out of their way. 

    They were also careful to make sure that my life (and that of my tenants) was not disrupted more than necessary. For example, when working in the kitchen they ran an extension cord to the refrigerator so that food would not spoil, and made sure that we had light available every evening. I work from a home office, and they made sure that my computer and my office was up and running when I needed it and warned me far ahead when they'd need to work on the electricity in that room. My tenants sometimes work nights, and JP O'Brien was good about accommodating their work schedule around the tenants where possible, always checking to make sure that the next day's plan would be okay. 

    There were pets in both apartments, and I never had to be worried that they would inadvertently leave a door open, or leave for the day with something left out that would be harmful to the animals. I'm sure they would be entirely reliable leaving a place safe for children after a day's work as well.  

    They were imaginative and made useful suggestions, some of which were terrific and I had not thought of -- such as installing a switch at the top of the stairs to the basement rather than where it was originally, which you had to go down several steps in the dark to reach. They put a light in front of the new circuit panels. They removed the old ceramic knobs in the basement along with the old wires, as it made it look neater.

    The work required making holes in ceilings and walls, and although they do not patch the holes (they did recommend someone else, but I could have had anyone do this) they did make sure that the holes they left at the end of the day were not a worry for cats who might get curious, and they made sure the cats could not poke their paws into dangerous places (putting up temporary covers or putting something against the wall). They cleaned up each day after work, sweeping up the debris and vacuuming with a Hepa vacuum. They had all the trash removed at the end of the job. 

    They were a pleasure to have in the house, even though it took so long -- several weeks. I would (and have) recommended them to anyone who needs an electrician. And I am thrilled to have found them!

  • I had Brian the alarm system in the fall of 2011, just before I went off to Poland for six weeks.
    But the new V-Teck phones didn't work with the alarm system Brian installed in the fall of 2011.  So Brian installed  the cellular device.   Brian came on June 4th to trouble-shoot the system and discovered that my new phones wouldn't work with the system 
    he installed in 2011, there was a $79.00 charge for that day's service call: all in included in the $ 570.00 price.

  • After hearing about a break-in in the neighborhood I decided I better put in an alarm system.   I called and spoke to many alarm companies both the local companies and the national brands and decided I like the DIY model of Protect America:  nobody coming to my house to give me the hard sell or scare tactics, nobody untrusted in my house who could later disclose any security
    vulnerabilities to anyone else, and most important nobody carving up my old plastered walls (and charging a ton in installations fee) and/or running ugly wires along my baseboards everywhere.   All I wanted was a simple wireless system that is scalable (that I could add to and extend over time), I could take it with me if I moved, that was not proprietary so I can shop around for monitoring service after my contract is up, I could access remotely via my smart phone and it provided the protection I needed whether I was home or away. 
    Protect America turned out to be the perfect fit for me.  My experience with Protect America could not have been better.   From the
    moment I contacted them on-line and was then immediately contacted back by a sales rep.  The whole process was informative, no pressured, and very professional.  Within 3-4 days after signing up I received my custom system via FedEx.   PA even monitors when FedEx dropped out the box and called me immediately to see if I needed help getting started.  As it starts out I was at work so they called me again when I got home.   The first tech support person who called gave me helpful hints on how to get started: such as read the very easy installation instructions, or watch the enclosed CD or go to You Tube and watch the easy installation instructions OR stay on the line she would walk me through - you decide what is your "style".   For me I am a visual learner so I went the You Tube route and watch the 5 minute video once and then I was ready to go around and install my own security system myself (took me about 20 minutes).  Once I had installed all the doors, windows, and motions sensor I called back my tech support gal directly and she walk me through the final system validation and setup process.   The whole system validation process and setup takes about an 45 - 60 minutes but they are VERY thorough with testing every access point and every instrument for arming and disarming the system to make sure everything works AND that I am completely comfortable with my new system.
    Since my installation, I have called back to Protect America twice: once for a question about my control panel (to lazy to read the manual) and another time to help me set up my Interactive (web and smart phone) account.  Both times I got through to a real person pretty quickly and was help by a very knowledgeable and professional technician.  
    I would definitely recommend them to any Do-it-yourselfer  individual who wants to install a very good security system at a reasonable price.

  • Brian came to evaluate my security system on Friday June 24.  He thought he could use the existing wiring, and all the door contacts, if they were working properly.  (One turned out not to work, but he didn't charge me for the new contact.)  He promised to provide an estimate, with options, by Sunday June 26, which he did.

    I replied to his email estimate by trying to articulate my understanding of what the update would entail, and I asked one question, which he encouraged me to do: He proposed adding a wireless smoke detector on the first or second floor, and I asked what the advantages/disadvantages would be for either choice.  He recommended adding the wireless smoke detector on the second floor, but, he added, that the safest method would be to add a wireless smoke detector on each floor, which I eventually agreed to.  It seemed silly not to add real protection for an additional $127.00.

    Once I agreed to the specifications of updating my security system, Brian agreed to install it on July 5 2011.  He arrived at 11.30 AM, and asked to move his materials into the basement, which I appreciated.  I had a doctor's appointment at 1.30 PM, which took about an hour, and I had no problem leaving Brian working while I was away.  He finished the installation about 5 PM, saving the paperwork till last.  Brian wanted to show me how the new security worked, keying in my own code.  He showed me how to operate the system, reminding to use it, by telling me story of a client who had two security systems in two different homes; the client became complacent, however, and one of his houses was broken into.

    Brian took almost an hour with the paperwork, making sure to answer every question that I had.  My experience with Millenium Alarm Technologies was excellent.  Becky at the office, and Brian were very professional and I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend this company to my closest friends.  Brian even placed all of the trash in one box in the basement.  This, for me, was a terrific experience, one that I wish every home renovation project could be.

  • The sales process went very smoothly. but the installer was not so great. When he saw that we lived on the second floor of a multifamily, he told us he wouldn't be able to install -- he, apparently, could only handle jobs in single-family homes. He was ready to leave and then my husband developed a plan for the guy to install -- using some common sense and creativity. IN the end, it got installed and it works great, but we really should not have had to do the work for this guy.

  • It went well. Don arrived within a week of my call, for the quotation consultation. He was professional, didn't do a hard sell and quoted me a price for a system that met my needs (and didn't necessarily have every bell/whistle available; he didn't try to sell me elements that I didn't need and I appreciated that). I received the quote within several days of his initial visit and the pricing was very competitive. I called to book the installation and that was done within 5-8 days of the receipt of the quote. His two-man installation team arrived on the day of a snowstorm, and still completed the entire installation that day! They were professional and efficient. They did a great install job and cleaned up well afterwards. The only thing I needed to reschedule was my training on the system (due to the storm). That was done within another few days and the system is up/running with no problems so far.

  • They showed up when they said they would to do the conversion/installation, and we have been very happy. The system has been operating for about 4 months. It is easy to use and reliable. When it was first installed, the motion detector was too sensitive (went off because of a moving window blind three times), and they came out and adjusted it at no charge. We also had a couple of errors (our son came home from school and couldn't disable it one day because he punched in a wrong number), and they were great about providing phone tech support. The good news is that each of these errors resulted in a police response, and after the first month of us adjusting to the system, we have had no false alarms.
