Daniel E Cadotte Plumbing & Heating
We noticed a small leak in a basement pipe and applied a patch. Called Dan the next morning and he came over at the end of a long day's work to assess the problem. He explained that the old pipes needed replacing and gave us a quote later over the phone.
The work was scheduled for the following week. His colleague arrived promptly on the day, and got straight on with it. He was  professional, courteous, efficient-- a really nice guy. He finished the whole thing in one day and cleaned up the space very well before he left.
We don't know how the cost would compare with another company, we would still have gone with Dan. He takes time to check details before giving a quote and then he sticks to it. Dan has worked on our house several times and we have found that his workmanship is excellent and he is a trustworthy person.  For example, he changed the heating from oil to gas about 10 years ago when we first moved in. He guided us through the decision-making process and did the necessary paperwork to get new equipment from Keyspan. When the inspector came, he asked us who had done the conversion, remarking that the work was of the highest standard. Dan has also replaced the water heater, fixed several radiators, and solved a revolting sewage backup problem. Every repair has been effective, good value for money, and expertly done.
Something we really appreciate about Dan is that he is very knowledgeable and patient when discussing the options available. Our house is over 100 years old, and for now we are improving slowly, as funds allow. Dan's expertise covers the old systems as well as the most up-to-date systems, and he demonstrates respect and understanding of our situation. Even though his time is in demand, he does not make us feel pressured or hurried. He answers questions fully so we can get a clear understanding of what the work entails.

We used this company because I purchased a $49.00 Basement Foundation Evaluation Coupon. Since I did not get any other estimates, I am not grading the price of the project. On November 6, Scott Calloway was the Sales Rep who came out to look at the basement. Our main concerns were that the basement floor was often damp in the summer and fears that in heavy rains, water would come up through the floor. Scott explained clearly and in simple terms the original construction and current condition of the foundation and cement floor in our old style home.  He gave us the options of installing heavy duty dehumidifiers which would get rid of the dampness but would not alleviate the possibility of water coming up from the cracks in the cement floor. His solution would be to install the Perimeter Drain System which was in our case, 29 feet of Water Trek Aqua Route System under the floor at the front of the house with a 1/2 hp Water Grabber pump. Scott was very careful to configure and adjust for the nuances of our unique situation of an older foundation, such as deciding the non traditional placement of the exit pipe and drain at the front of the house rather than the back of the house. He also explained that rain running down the hill across the street was source of the water possibly ending up in the basement. After agreeing to the recommendation of the Perimeter Drain System the date was set for the following week. The three men came right on time, worked efficiently and cleaned up nicely. Once finished the foreman explained what we needed to know about the system. My only complaint and the reason I gave them a "B" overall was that I wasn't prepared for all the DUST coming through the basement door to the point that I was choking. Everything in the basement was covered with white dust. I ended up covering the door with sheets and towels but not soon enough to avoid the dust in the rest of the house.  It would have been so helpful to know this ahead of time and also that it would be QUITE LOUD with the jackhammers. Other than that, it was a good experience and would use them again.

    W Callahan Excavation
Arrived on time. Two guys hand dug to reach the break. Reinforcements arrived to remove the broken pipe and make the repairs. Being six feet deep and buried, only time will tell if this solves the line clogging problem.

    DiPietro Heating & Cooling
DiPietro was the one of 4 companies to come out and give the estimate for my Central AC install in 4600sf house with baseboard heat. They were the only ones (thank you Chris) that spent more than an hour going over all details and the estimate included the number of drops, vents and returns as well as the size and SEER rating of the unit. The price was also almost half of what one of the companies gave without providing any details. One downside was that they were booked for 4 weeks out, but I would wait longer for the quality service that they provided. Donnie came out himself few times and solved all the issues and concerns that I had. Originally I priced whole house humidifier, but then I learned that I could get whole house air cleaner and they swapped them without extra cost even though the air cleaner was a bit more. I would recommend DiPietro Heating and Cooling to anyone.

    Allen Plumbing & Heating Inc
First trip out, Allen Plumbing came out for a high water bill, the City said I needed to hire a plumber to exonerate my systems to make sure that there was no leaking toilets, etc.  Allen plumbing came out and found nothing...I wrote down the meter number overnight and then when I woke up in the morning it had moved, so I turned off the toilets one-by-one and eventually found that all 3 of them had problems.  I contacted them and let them know that the $180 I had spent to have them look at this the first time was money I basically threw away, so they "offered" to credit me the $180 to fix the 3 toilets that had problems with leaking.

This time, Michael Allen came over and not one of his underlings.  Michael is a sharp guy, but I always leave feeling like I've been give the runaround.  He has a fixed price for his work, so that to me, means that if you're paying him to fix a toilet, it gets fixed.  He estimated about $800 for all of the  toilets...I just wanted the problem to be dealt with, so I reluctantly agreed, he was going to credit me back for the initial visit, so that would be about $200 a toilet...he then left and came back an hour later with some parts, he proceeded to fix the toilets by installing new flappers, which seems relatively easy and not worth $200...well if that was the end of the story, I'd be really happy.  I paid my money and I got my toilets fixed, even if it was too much.

I like Michael, he's a pretty sharp guy, and one of these toilets is ancient and I didn't know how to fix it myself, but the other two, I definitely could've put a flapper in those two...and also one of the easy toilets which he put the new flapper in, was never fixed, it continued to leak and leak....and run up my water bill.  Michael offered another credit towards installation.  He offered to install a new Toto for something like $1000, with a $200 credit.  That seemed ridiculous to me, as that is $800 for a $450 toilet, that means he's still getting  (with the credit), $350 for installation.  I quoted other places and they said it would be around $250 to install a toilet and that's without any credit...I've paid a lot of money for these 3 toilets and I got 2 working with new flappers which cost about $30 in parts and about 3 hours in labor (if you count going to the suppy store)...I spent close to $800 for this, not a good value.

It almost feels as if I said I was having computer trouble and I came over to your house and said I'll fix it for $200.  Then you agree, and then I say okay, give me the $200, then I reboot your computer and the problem is fixed, that's how bad I felt.   Down the rabbit hole... I won't deal with them again, even though I think they do some good work here and there...I still have yet to install a new toilet and the toilet is in a bathroom that is seldom used, but I'm about to embark on another journey with a different plumber.

Borges Sewer & Drain Cleaning Co
Originally, I was having work done in my house, and while that was happening my sewer line was backing up. They came in got the line flowing again with no problem. My contractor recommended that I hire them to do a video inspection of the line to look for problems, like roots blocking the line. On completion of the inspection, several issues were found. Typically what they do is if you use them to use to do the sewer line replacement, they will deduct the cost of the inspection against what you owe them for the replacement. They were great and know what they are doing. They take care of the city permits, ge the polics detail if needed, and all the materials needed to do the job. They were done in 1 day.

At first, I was very impressed. Anthony called each morning to let us know what the plan for the day was and his team completed a lot of hand digging. We also were sticking very close to the budget that was set beforehand. However, things quickly went downhill. Anthony's team dug in the wrong place and then tried to pass the lost labor cost on to me. In short, the pipe was installed but I was left with: 1. A cut electrical cord that has made my outside lamppost unfunctional. Anthony said that he had an electrician fix it, but it is not fixed. 2. A loose stone in my foundation where they dug that was not properly replaced. 3. Two retaining walls that were not replaced properly, as agreed in the contract. 4. A bill that was $850 over budget (this was negotiated down from $2,000 over budget). I would NOT use again or recommend to anyone. UPDATE: Four months after installation, we have raw sewage backing up into our home and yard. We have asked Anthony to come back out and adress the situation but have not received a response.
