I like the way they explained things as they went along. It is an old house, so it needed a lot of work and they found all that needed to be done. They did an excellent job. I will definitely recommend them and absolutely use them, again.

Like most things on our older home, a custom sized cap was needed for the chimney. The company measured the chimney and ordered the cap. Due to the custom size of the cap there was additional cost. The work was completed in a timely way and some cracks in the chimney were also repaired during the installation.

Steve was able to schedule the work with two weeks of initial contact.  Contact before the service was good.  He arrived promptly and was friendly and professional.  He worked very quickly and efficiently, and worked with me to install a new bathroom vent cap as part of the service.  He completed the work on time and as expected, and answered all my questions about the roof.  I am completely satisfied and highly recommend him.

Mr. Gaffney called me back soon after I left a message for him.  We agreed on a time for him to come out to the house, and he showed up early and was able to do the job right then and there.
Mr. Gaffney was very knowledgable about his work and had a good sense of humor.
He cleaned out all of the junk that had accumulated at the bottom of the un-capped chimney over the course of about 80 years.  He then removed a large squirrel's nest which was sitting on top of all the dirt and debris that had blown into the chimney.
He then attached a new clean-out valve to the chimney.
He did all of this in about 1 hour and for a VERY reasonable price.  I would absolutely call him again.

I have been a homeowner for twenty two years and I first used Mr. Gaffney's services to repair one of the fireplace dampers in July 1993.   Every service since that time, I have always been very impressed by his thorough assessment of the house and I have always felt much safer knowing that he has reviewed and evaluated my home.   I would not want any other Chimney Sweep servicing my home.

Mr. Gaffney has always performed a very thorough inspection, ensured that I have the appropriate safety devices (smoke and carbon dioxide detectors and they are located correctly.

He is very prompt, provides an explanation of how the mechanicals work and he is extremely neat.

On my street, Mr. Gaffney is the Chimney Sweep of choice.  I would highly recommend his service and for safety sake don't delay in ensuring that your chimney is ready and in good order for the first fire of the season!

We love this guy! We don't know much about chimneys, but he's very informative and has provided great tips.  Last year was our first year in our house, and he did a full inspection and installed a cap.  He's definitely punctual (usually early, actually), and does a great job.

I called Jim after our first mason completed half the work and went AWOL.  In the first mason's defense I think he underestimated how difficult the job was.  The chimney was quite large atop a very tall slate roof.  I wanted the seams to be extra tight and the mortar dyed to match the construction of the other chimney.  It also required re-finishing the liners.
Jim came over the next day and inspected what had been done and what remained.   Luckily he was able to build on the first mason's work.  He gave me an estimate of $3500, which was more than I had hoped, but I believe it was a fair price considering the danger of working on top of a 40 foot high slate roof.  It took two days just to erect the staging in front of the house and and around the chimney before he could even get started.  Jim also said that he would need help from my roofer to ensure minimal damage to the slate roof.  I asked him to work quickly because we had an outdoor party coming up.
After he got the staging up Jim promised to return on Thursday to start the work.  Jim and his two workers showed up early Thursday and got right to work.  He had told me he hoped to finish Friday, which would have been great since the party was Saturday.  However, when I got home from work on Thursday, Jim told me the weather forecast for Friday was bad, so he was going to keep working until he was finished.  He and his workers stayed until 9 pm and finished.  On Friday they cleaned up and left.  You couldn't tell they had even been there because the property was back to original.   And the chimney is beautiful.
I was very pleased with the work and also with Jim's punctuality and professionalism.  I highly recommend him, and anyone is welcome to come over and look at the chimney for yourself.  My roofer was also impressed and told me that Jim had already spoken with him about helping him on other projects.

We had bought a deal from Angie's List for masonry work. However, his prices were much higher than anyone else we talked to. We ultimately had the work we wanted done by someone else.
We used the coupon to just have him power wash part of the wall. That's all he did.

I made an appointment for an estimate to have major work done to the foundation of my house and to replace deteriorating stairs and repoint my chimney.  Jim arrived on time the day of the appointment and was  very professional.  We discussed the work and Jim explained to me what would be involved in completing the project.  He stated that they would be able to repoint the exterior of the foundation during the warm weather and if I were to wait until winter to repoint the interior, he would give me a 25% discount on that portion of the job.   The estimate was reasonable, so I contacted Jim to let him know that I wanted to proceed with the project.

The work was done over the course of one of the hottest weeks of the summer.  Jim and his crew did a fantastic job. The one issue was that when they went up to the roof to repoint the chimney, they found a major problem and the chimney had to be totally rebuilt.  this added an addition $1450 to the original estimate.  That of course, was not the fault of the contractor.  I appreciated that the problem was brought to my attention and a quality job was done rebuilding the chimney.
Overall, I was very pleased with the work and plan to use this contractor to complete the interior foundation work later this year.
