I honestly could not imagine it going any better. Ed and his crew are highly professional and the project came in on budget and within the margin for timely completion. Ed is unflappable and the client's happiness is truly his only objective.

    Britton Homes LLC
Jim Britton and his team are truly exceptional -- both in service and quality of work. This is a family business, and indeed it is run with the attentiveness and personal touches that one would expect from family!  Our home went from an ordinary 1960's Cape with virtually no updates, to an exquisite home, still of modest size but with  elegant, airy, modern rooms, new large doorways and French doors, closets and flooring, totally remodeled and amazingly transformed kitchen and upstairs bathroom,  updated finished basement with added bathroom, a lovely 4 season sunroom converted from a screened porch and a backyard deck which beautifully complements the house. Family and friends can't stop raving about the transformation--its really a new home at a fraction of what we would have spent to buy a new one in the affluent town in which we live.  Jim's precision, master craftmanship and excellent planning and coordination culminated in an amazing finished product within a timespan of essentially four months--including some brutally cold days in January.
Each and every worker was professional, prompt, honest, friendly, and went way beyond expectation in what they offered and provided. Their attention to detail was remarkable and they often noticed--even before we did-- the inevitable imperfections that will occur even in the best of jobs. On the occasions that we asked for a change or correction  it was performed promptly and perfectly.  Some examples (among many too numerous to list here) regarding their excellent service: they were extremely patient and gracious about my obsessiveness and changeability regarding choice of paint colors, their painter (Germain Escalante) was extremely helpful in providing suggestions and flawless painting and refinishing; Jim Britton (owner) hired a piano tuner to check and tune the piano after it had been moved (but not damaged); one of the workers (Jack) found a set of valuable antique silver utensils tucked away in an old closet that we had forgotten about and set them neatly aside for us; Jim always went the extra mile to  research and solve problems that they had not created but anticipated might occur. They provided consultation and work on efficient heating and came by recently to review and update some features at no extra charge. The quality of their work was impeccable. The carpentry (moldings on walls and ceilings, window frames) was phenomenal. The kitchen design worked beautifully. The wood flooring, which was not replaced, was beautifully refinished (after 50 years of wear) to being like new. Electrical work and plumbing were flawless. They subcontracted central air conditioning for us at a very reasonable cost. They are not a low-budget operation but not more expensive  than other estimates we had gotten, and their price is truly worth what they deliver. Moreover, they made many suggestions which actually saved us money. Jim was also very careful to stick by his estimates, and gave us fair warning if something further we might want would take us over budget. He also made it his practice to give us credit when an item might -- even unbeknownst to us -- come under budget. On the very few occasions when an error occurred, Jim without any hesitation simply ate the cost and proceeded  to correct the problem.   Britton Homes refers to their clients as "customers for life"--a very good position to be in for anyone who is lucky enough to reap the benefits of their outstanding work and service. I can't say enough good things about them--and am extremely grateful to Angie's List for bringing them to our attention!

    Marcellos Design & Builders
Marcello's is one of the best contractors we have worked with. If my project is any indication, he goes way beyond the extra mile to do a very high quality job, keep his customer happy and keep the project going at a steady pace and complete on time.

His work was of very high quality. He takes personal care and pride in his work. I contracted Marcello's to remodel sunroom and rebuild the deck above the sunroom. During the project, he encountered a number of complications (foundation issues, underground water near stair landing etc). In each case, he took it upon himself to design robust solutions and correct the problem thoroughly. I noticed his crew would often spend hours doing detailed work just so it was done right - most other contractors would have simply cut corners. Examples: multiple coats of paint on walls and deck, fixing and repouring foundation just so my deck is extra-stable, adding extra wood overhangs around sunroom and deck so water drains right, the list goes on. None of this was spelled out in the contract, yet he did it because it was "the right thing".

The technical superiority of his work is only surpassed by the beauty of his end product. My wife is not easily satisfied when it comes to home renovations. Marcello's deck and sunroom were so well done, that she conceded it exceeded her image of the ideal end-result before the project began. The deck looked perfect, the paint was thorough, minor details were cared for such as restoring siding, and perfectly matching siding color etc. Sunroom and floor was perfectly finished and painted. During the project he gave expert advise that made you feel like you were in good hands - such as why laminated wood floor would be a better option than tiles (my wife's first choice). We got second opinions from experienced contractors and they agreed. In hindsight, wood even looks better!

Last, but not the least, Marcello and his crew are of very personable demeanor. Very easy to get along with, a pleasure to work with and have around.

I would rehire Marcello's in a heartbeat, and have already recommended to friends.

    O'Connell Carpentry and Remodeling
Pat and his crew were a delight to work with from start to finish.  They are polite, clean, timely and professional.  They aim to do the job right and were not satisfied until I was satisfied.  I would definitely use them again.   Everything looks beautiful and functions well.
I am very picky about how things are done and this did not phase Pat, in fact, he seemed pleased at the attention to detail and takes pride in his work.

    KNEELAND CONSTRUCTION CO
I would never use their electrician again. The guy was a ripoff. He was rude to my wife and I told them not to use him and they refused to do it. I had issues with these guys. Overall the work was okay but I had a lot of issues with them. It was unbelievable what this electrician charged. He and the sheetrocker used to sit there and have swearing fights. He used subs and I would not use him in the future.

    Pegasus Design-To-Build LLC
In general the project worked--however--there were significant: Communication glitches Pricing inaccuracies for change orders Changes in products installed w/o prior approval/communications Damage to existing bathroom wall-paper which needed replacement due to subcontractor error Electrician installed interior light bulbs in the exterior sensor lights--which formed ice in winter due to not being properly designed for outdoor usage--we also had consistent fuse blow-outs until new fuses were installed months after the initial installation Project management issues--workers did not always show up as scheduled Radiant heat was installed by the plumber--and existing heat to one of our other rooms stopped working due to diversion of the water flow to the new room. Again--the company maintained that their subcontractor is not responsible. For the first time in 16 years--we had water leakage in the remodeled room.  We asked Pegasus to come out and review the damage.  Even with a 10+ year warranty on all work completed including roofing work--Pegasus maintained that their sub-contractors were not responsible for the roof leakage. We will be spending an additional $3,000 to redo the roof this Summer On the plus side, the downstairs bathroom upgrade went very well and the library's insulation keeps the room several degrees warmer than the rest of our house. In addition, Duane is extremely easy to work with, very experienced and offered expert consultation on how to improve our plans.  His carpenter and craftsmanship skills are first rate.  Mike was extremely professional, easy to deal with and worked his butt off--but as the project manager--was tasked with "herding cats" in working with sub-contractors who behave as if their sh$@ doesn't stink. While Pegasus strives to provide high quality services at reasonable prices, working with them is not for the faint of heart.

    TONY GENTILE CONSTRUCTION
Tony did a great job on this project as well.  He made some good design suggestions once we originally described our objective, which added to the quality and look of the doors.  He was also able to preserve more of the existing wall opening and header above the window that was removed than we originally expected, which saved us from having to reconstruct a much greater portion of the wall and saved us money. This project required a fairly unique combination of precise craftsmanship (given that the door had to be fit really well to operate properly) and persistence (to get everything square and plumb, etc.) and Tony was more than up to the task. He was always prompt, kept the area impeccably clean (so we could still use the adjacent dining room, even during the project) and coordinated things so that I could install wiring and some decorative lanterns lighting the deck while he had the wall opened to fit the door. The door looks and works perfectly, the trim really accents the character of the room, we were extremely satisfied.

    Socelvic Co
They completed a sunroom after I had fired another contractor. He built stairs on the back of the room and said to call him about a year later to reseal the stairs without charging me. They also did other things for me on the kitchen cabinets. I was happy with them but I didn't realize they hadn't done a very good job on refinishing all the floors. I noticed the wall in the sunroom was cracking and had settling cracks with nails coming thru. I called them after I noticed thin cracks and he said to we wait until the year is over and we'll see how the room settles. There were problems with the water coming in the room. The owner came with a couple of workers. He said he would write a proposal. He wanted to charge me $1700 to access the problem, open up the wall, and then repair it. He said it wasn't his companies fault but the company that had previously done work. I didn't think it was fair he wanted to charge me for the work they did. I found out they used the wrong nails and the wall was weathering. I would never use them again and I wouldn't recommend them.

    TONY GENTILE CONSTRUCTION
This was a pretty big project and Tony did a fabulous job. To make the initial demolition and construction easier on us as a family, Tony would access the room from the outside rather than coming through the home. Tony?s work is top of the line including his interior finish work. He is reliable, conscientious, fair and consistent. If there was ever any question about how to proceed, Tony always consulted us and provided several options depending on our preferences and budget. I can wholeheartedly recommend Tony for larger projects that include exterior and interior work. He is truly skilled in his craft and easy to get along with. You will not have to worry that Tony will run into something that he does not know how to handle. Tony made sure the project moved along as quickly as possible, which was greatly appreciated. We are extremely satisfied and love our new room.
