    Bonded Lock Service Inc
A++! Called in the AM, Mr. Silva gave me a time frame and texted when he was on the way. Although it is an older lock, Mr. Silva had the right part and replaced the latch, which had become worn. He did additional work on the door, which I was not expecting! He replaced the screws in the top hinge and corrected the door's alignment. He then corrected the alignment of the box. Lubricated the lock, tried the key to make sure it works. The lock is fixed and operates easily. Bonus is that the door doesn't scrape on the floor any more! Thank you!

    Handyman Matters of Greater Boston
I contacted the company to have my interior and exterior doors replaced. I was contacted by the company and had them come out to my home to take the measurements and discuss the project. A couple of weeks went by and I had not heard anything from them nor received an estimate for the job. I contacted the company and was told that someone would get back to me about the job by the end of the day. I still have not heard from them and it has been almost a week. I felt that my time was wasted as I had to take time off of work to meet with the company.

    FONSECA HOME IMPROVEMENT
Fernando responded promptly and gave us a very reasonable estimate for the work. He followed through and came to do the work exactly when he said he would. He is a perfectionist and did an excellent job. He told us what he would be doing and how, gave us options and proudly showed us each element of his work.

    ARLINGTON COAL & LUMBER
I had a bad customer experience with two separate employees at Arlington Coal & Lumber. First, I needed to order a new interior door, and even though I described in detail all the size and hardware measurements and swinging direction, the salesman was gruff, short with me, and ultimately ordered the wrong-sided door. I realized this as I was installing the door, and when I called him, and he essentially blamed me for not knowing exactly how doors are described when they are ordered. True - I'm not the door expert. But I did check with another expert who said this guy was a poor salesman for not anticipating what is a common point of door-ordering confusion, and for not confirming with me exactly what I needed. Second, and separately, I visited the kitchen/home center section and asked a saleswoman there for help in getting a quote on materials for new kitchen island I wanted to have built. She promised a quote via email. After several weeks of no reply, and then a follow-up via email and a second in-person visit, I left with another promise of a quote, and more than a month later, still nothing. She simply blew me off. If she were too busy to help me, she could have saved me a lot of time and frustration is she had just told me so up front. In both cases, my lingering sense was that I got this treatment because I just wasn't that big of a customer to them (door was $235 and the island probably would be ~$1,000-$1,500). So I'm writing this to warn other 'smaller' customers to learn from my mistake and explore other home center options.

    Cole Home Improvement, LLC
Cole is a small family business everybody is honest and hardworking. Always polite and respectful. For all major areas, Cole brings in an expert to direct the work so my roof is now perfect, my house framing is now perfect, my wood floor is now perfect, et cetera. Cole gives daily updates, with pictures on his phone to show exactly what was wrong and how Cole corrected the problem. Cole makes repairs a truly pleasurable experience for the homeowner. It feels great knowing (and seeing) that my house has quality repairs.

    S + H Construction Inc
S+H was grossly negligent with the roof construction. They bought plywood sheathing for the roof. One sheet of plywood that they installed at the edge of the roof had a large hole. They put shingles on top of the plywood and its hole, but did not use any industry standard protection. No ice and water shield. No tar paper or roofing felt. Nothing. They left the hole unprotected from the elements, except for the roof shingles. After several years of water entering the addition structure, a spot finally appeared on the ceiling corner of my garage. A roofer inspected and found the roof hole above that area of the ceiling, and repaired the roof by patching over the hole. A year or so later, another issue arose - a bird pecked into the exterior siding near that area of the roof. A contractor came over to repair that piece of siding, but discovered that water had caused extensive rot to the addition structure. We were greatly surprised, since there had been no visible evidence of there being such a significant problem. All of the rot was now completely dry, because the roof repair stopped further water from entering. But the many years of allowing water to enter had already done its damage. I called S+H and spoke with the prior owner who still worked at S+H. I told him about the extensive rot it was so bad that the structure was unsafe and was sure cost over $50,000 to repair. He said he was going on vacation, but would talk to his insurance. Over the next 4 weeks while the structure was being repaired, I had many email contacts with S+H. They did not deny responsibility, except in one odd email from the S+H owner. I write odd, because it makes no sense. She wrote that S+H needed to look at the hole to determine whether it caused the leak. That is odd, because patching the hole caused the leak to stop, and S+H was told that. And even more odd, because I offered to show the hole to S+H, but they refused to come to the house to look at the hole. And they refused to accept the statements of my home insurance adjuster, my general contractor and my roofer (who patched the hole). And, they wrote they were advised to not file a claim with their liability insurance even though it is free and simple to file a claim (the insurance agency does the actual filing). They adamantly refused to do anything about the problem. No offer to help repair the house themselves. No offer to help pay for the repair. All they gave me was the contact information of their lawyer, in case I wanted to pursue them legally. I spent $70,000 to do the repairs needed because of the S+H gross negligence. Either they used non-professionals to do my roof, or they hired professionals who deliberately took shortcuts that were sure to cause grave damage to my house. S+H provided no justification for their response, except to write that they had a one-year warranty. That was a falsehood. I sent them a copy of their contract, which did not have a one-year warranty There were other problems with S+H, but I don't want to include them since that would distract from the major issue that I described above.

Work was done timely and great solutions were used. Brian was very creative and incredibly capable. Also, the final painting, "make up' work and cleaning was done very well. Will definitely gather new projects and give them a call again.

    FONSECA HOME IMPROVEMENT
If I could give Mr. Fonseca an A++ I would. He did excellent, careful work, He is clearly very knowledgeable and competent. He noticed details, and made excellent suggestions. His estimate of time involved was on the nose, and the cost was very reasonable.
