    Nova VC Construction & Cleaning
Almir and his team are tidy, prompt and courteous all the while delivering exceptional craftsmanship in their work. Gisele and her team have attention to detail in cleaning our home, restoring it and gerneral upkeep. This partnership can take care of all your home needs, from renovations to maintenance of your property. I have found nothing comprable to the services Nova provides! Hands down, the best in The Valley!

I am an interior designer and realtor; I have very high standards and am painfully picky. Nova construction and cleaning is a team of professionals who are reliable and always on time. Their remodeling was impeccable from prepping areas by sealing them off with plastic, expert craftsmanship with framing, drywall, finish, painting, plumbing and electrical. On a separate occasion, we also experienced an unrelated pipe burst in which they came to remediate immediately and were done with in a few days. The cleaning service used after was so detailed, I hired them full time! Best experience I have had in western Mass!

    Masterpiece Finishes
Initially, it took a few calls to get a response, but based on the time of year and the high ratings on Angie's List, I persisted.  After he returned my call, Gary came to the house for an estimate within a day or two.  His estimate was very detailed, giving information for each room.  He also explained in detail what he would do when he came to the house for the first time.  His estimate was, I thought, quite reasonable considering the time of year.  He had an opening between jobs to do the exterior within a few days.  Before he finished the exterior, there was a delay in his current project, so he did the interior of the house the next week.  He's very efficient and does impeccable work.  I had a bedroom where I just removed some old wallpaper and was planning to remove the paste during the time I figured I'd have to wait for a painter, but since he was able to get in so soon, I asked if he could remove the paste and prepare the walls in addition to the planned work.  He was very willing to add the task (understandably at an additional cost), but I was very glad not to have to do it.  Cleanup was very thorough as well - except for the newly painted walls and ceilings, you couldn't tell he was there.  I would definitely recommend Masterpiece Finishes and wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

    Kevin Smith Painting
Kevin is a really nice guy who was very accommodating and pleasant.  However, he used a rotary sander on my fascia boards and, despite my questioning this because it was leaving divots, he continued to use it.  This left sanding marks that I was not happy with and cannot repair without some effort.  He did a cursory job on the window sashes, some of which I discovered were only partially painted and had to be redone.  All in all, he is willing to do almost anything to help, but the quality of his work matches the price I paid for it.

    Acheson Company LLC
We were provided with a very inaccurate estimate, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the deal. We relied on Dean to give us his honest, expert assessment. When we questioned why the invoice equalled the estimate when the work was about halfway done, we were told we did "not understand how much work it was." The work is subcontracted out to other workers paid by the hour, so we are billed what the workers bill him. Dean was definitely responsive if we had a question or a problem, but he was not on-site supervising the work or verifying the hours. (For example, we were billed for 6 workers, whereas we only ever saw 3 over the course of the 5 days.) As such, communication regarding day-to-day progress and next steps was lacking. Dean himself suggested the cancellation of the deal, as he sensed our misgivings were growing. We are happy to be moving forward with another company.

    Dave Lane Building and Remodeling
Dave was very prompt in his phone calls and thorough when we went around the house looking at the various jobs. I initially hired him for carpentry but then realized he could do many other things so I had him quote on the other jobs I had planned. I had emailed and called other people to quote on the work but Dave was the most responsive. He completed the repair work and will quote on the remodeling and bigger jobs.

It went perfectly. The repair was simpler and less expensive than what we had expected, since we thought the frame of the chair was broken but it was really only that the frame needed to be tightened up and glued again. We've used Manhattan Restorations before, for a larger and more complex repair, and were very pleased with the way it turned out.

    Sherwin Williams
If you think you'd get better expertise and service from Sherwin-Williams than one of the big box stores, you'd be thinking wrong.  I relied on Sherwin-Williams for recommendations for paint and floor sealing products for a specialized, food-related application.  I was concerned about the floor.  The Sherwin-Williams technical rep came over to my place, looked it over, and recommended a product.  It required meticulous preparation of the concrete floor, which I did.  In fact, the factory rep came back over after I finished preparing the floor and said it looked better than most commercial applications he'd done.  Confidently, I applied the expensive, epoxy product he recommended and it started flaking after about six months.  The technical rep came back, took a paint chip and after many weeks of "lab analysis", he said that the floor was prepared wrong and that it was my fault.  But he personally saw the preparation and thought it was great!  Was he going to stand behind it and re-do the floor?  Absolutely not.  Was he going to reimburse me for the cost of the product?  Absolutely not.  So, what use was his technical advice?  Now, it's going to be a tremendous burden in both cost and time to re-do the floor.  The Sherwin-Williams rep was useless and their product was useless.
I've used the products and expertise at Home Depot and Lowe's.  It's excellent.  Sherwin-Williams is a disaster.  I'll never go there again.  They cost me a lot of money and time.  If you need paint, paint advice, or floor sealing products, I recommend staying as far away from Sherwin-Williams as possible.

We were looking for a painter and we found him locally so we thought we'd try him, and he is excellent. He did exactly what we wanted and was very clean: he picked up everything. He is really sociable and very nice. We have seen other projects he has done. He is very meticulous, very neat. We would have him back in a heartbeat if we needed some painting. He does the business out of his home. He is retired and loves to paint and does a great job. He was punctual, he gave us a quote and stuck to it. We thought he was very reasonable.

    Robert Alan King Painting
I spoke with several housepainters on the phone and invited Alan and one other respected local painter to see the home we were about to buy, to give us an estimate of time and cost. Both bids were reasonable, but Alan's was about 20% more affordable than the other painter. However, what most swayed us to choose him was his quiet enthusiasm for the job and willingness to accommodate our tight move-in schedule. He and his small crew worked very full days to get the job done in time. They agreed as we asked to do the work in two phases, one before we moved in and one after.
Scheduling and communication with Alan was easy. He was available by phone and email.
He was completely supportive of our wish to minimize the use of toxic VOC-emitting paints in our home. At the same time he gave us what I believe was good advice about opting for low VOC (versus no-VOC) paints in the bathroom and for trim.
We are totally delighted with the quality of the work completed. Details such as sanding, edging, electric sockets, caulking, etc., were all dealt with carefully. Our home looks fresh and beautiful and we'll look forward to hiring Alan again when we paint a few remaining spaces.
