    Brusa Home Improvement
Chris was an absolute pleasure to work with. Our old bathroom had seen better days. Locating Chris was something that made this whole bathroom renovation project a breeze. I echo everything that a previous reviewer (in November) stated. There were zero issues working with Chris and his team. Chris also has excellent taste with colour and lighting. The bathroom has a very relaxed and calming 'feel' about it now, thanks primarily, to Chris' colour combinations. He took the bathroom right back to the studs, leveled the floor, before rebuilding it. The team always took care of our home, cleaned up at the end of every working day, and Chris & I went over any outstanding issues and decisions to be made (if any) at the end of every working day. I will most definitely be using Chris for future home updates.

    SOUSA'S FINE FLOORS
Amazingly well. We had the kitchen floors done first in November of 2015 then the den in the summer of 2017. Refinishing the kitchen floors came after a long and painful kitchen remodeling that took far longer than expected, so we didn't really want to have another week of limited access to the kitchen. Steve Sousa helped us tremendously giving us options to speed up the process without compromising the quality of the job. He was very patient while we tried to decide stain and finish. The work was very well done, on time, reasonably priced. We hired them again almost 2 years later and will again as we move into other parts of the house. Steve's a keeper.

    McE's Home Services
It was a terrific experience. He was cordial, prompt, upfront about costs and timing. His staff were professional, careful and meticulous. They worked incredibly hard to make my bathroom new floor look just the way I wanted it to, and didn't quit until I was satisfied. They were respectful of my schedule, and made adjustments as my father passed away in New Jersey during the project and I had to put them on hold. They came back as soon as I was ready. Highly recommend Brian and his team, Mario and Jose.

    SOUSA'S FINE FLOORS
Steve Sousa and his nephew Doug were phenomenal and as I told them when the floor was finished, we will have them come back over time and refinish all the other floors in our newly acquired 1840s home.  Steve and Doug were courteous and very knowledgeable professionals, guiding us through the whole process.  I had a lot of questions and spoke to Steve by phone easily a half dozen times, and he answered every question I had patiently and professionally.  It is really exciting to find tradespeople who are really, really good, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a clean wonderful job by experts.

    National Floors Direct Inc
We had used National Floors Direct previously, for our kitchen and dining room.  They did a good job on that installation, so we were expecting a similar experience with the living room.
On June 25, 2015 we had a visit from Matt Stickles, the salesperson.  He was very nice, but at first he tried to pressure us into signing.  We held firm and said we wanted to think about it.  At this point he backed off and went out the door. Before he actually drove away we decided to go ahead with it.  My impression was that high-pressure is the standard operating procedure, but this particular salesman was being considerate of our wishes.  Fair warning to anyone getting estimates from them.

While Matt was here he noticed the squeaky places in the floor, and said how nice it would be that we could get rid of the squeaks when the new floor was installed.

We signed the contract and the installers arrived on June 29.  My wife was in the hospital in the emergency room and I had to come home for the installation.  I neglected to mention the squeaky floor to the installer.  He and his crew blew in and out of here like a hurricane. I thought they did a good job, but my wife noticed two issues when she came home.  First, the floor still squeaked.  Second, the ends of some of the boards move noisily under your feet , as if they were not fastened down properly.

We called to file a complaint with customer support.  They sent us a form to fill out. We sent in the form with photos attached.  After a week or so we called back.  They had received the paperwork, and we scheduled a visit by the installer on September 11.  Our hope was that he would come out and fix the problem.  Unfortunately we had to reschedule the visit, due to a personal issue.
It took several calls to Customer Support to reschedule, and the support personnel were clearly not happy that we needed to reschedule.  When we finally schedule a new appointment for September 29, we were told that we would not be permitted to reschedule this one.   On the morning of September 29, we received a call from Customer Support. The representative said the installer could not make it on that day, but would be available the next day, on September 30.  Fortunately we were available at that time, but I would say that we were more considerate of their time than they were of ours.
On September 30 the installer arrived.  He told us that our floor is not level, due to settling over many years.  He said there is a slight hump in the floor, which he did not notice on installation day.   He said that accounted for the boards dipping when you step on the ends .  He said there is no way to fix that.  However, we have the same exact problem with noisy and shifting floorboards in the entry (done by National Floors Direct), and there is NO hump there.
He had no answer for the separate issue of the squeaking subfloor, which we really wanted to get fixed.   We pointed out that the squeaking could be addressed by going underneath (from the basement) but he was not interested in doing that. He said that he would talk to his supervisor and that we could call support the next day to find out their response.  It would have been easy to fix the squeaks when he had the sub-floor exposed, that is why we are frustrated.

We called support the next day, as instructed.  The support representative said that we would have to wait at least a week for the installer?s report.  This was in direct contradiction to what the installer had just told us.

Throughout the process we have seen a lack of communication.  The salesman did not communicate the squeaking issue to the installer, which might have saved us a headache.  We did not communicate the squeaking issue to the installer either, that?s my fault.  My wife was aware of it, but she was in the hospital.

With hindsight I wish that the installer had taken the time to inspect the sub-flooring before doing the installation. I know now that he could have fixed the problem easily, before installing the flooring. He did not indicate to me that he had performed an inspection, or that there was any problem with squeaking. There was no discussion about it at all.   I wish now that we had hired an independent contractor to do this job instead of National Floors Direct.

We would not recommend National Floors Direct to anyone.  If you are considering a new hardwood floor, go with an independent contractor, someone you can trust to have your interests at heart.

We had a large wooden stove in the main room of our new home.  We didn't use it and didn't like how it looked.  The hearth came way out into the main floor and had a one year old starting to climb all over it.  We didn't know what we wanted to do, but we knew we wanted it gone.  I had actually brought in someone awhile ago for an estimate and he didn't even want the job after looking at it.  We started contacting people through Angie's list.  We received numerous costly estimates from people without even looking at it.  Tom followed up by wanting to see the job first, and within a week outlined a very detailed and fair estimate.  Tom and his team started when they said they would.  They worked very efficiently.  I was worried about a huge mess doing the demolition as this was in our main room, and there was no mess at all.
The finished product came out great.  The estimate did not change and was the final cost.  The entire project took about a week.  We couldn't be more pleased or recommend Tom enough.  I already have him working on an estimate for our next project.  He will be the first person we contact for all future projects.

This was a terrible experience. Everyone is very nice until you need something because something went wrong The sales person is almost flirty. I think the items in the book they show to potential buyers are different in quality from the quality they use or the backing of the items are different and therefore make the tiles feel different. It definitely feels different than items on the floor to me. The paperwork process is incredibly slow. They should join the current times. I didn't help any when I let the sales person use my fax machine for other sales. When I asked how long the process would take he told me 15 minutes. It was small bathroom, why not, what do I know about flooring? When I called him the next day about something I said you said it would be 15 minutes, he said he didn't say that he said about himself,  “What am I stupid.” and went on in a goofy voice. NO professionalism there. The people did come on the assigned day. 2 people. One person did not speak any English so I could not ask any questions. The other person was out in the car with her baby who she left for long periods of time which I was worried about the car was on. The worker chipped the radiator end. The second person that sat in the car who had me sign more papers, which took a long time, kept telling me the radiator cover was old. It may have been old (not that old) but it was not chipped. She wanted to paint it. I said she could paint it but if didn't look good that would not be acceptable. To her old meant a little rust around the hinges. She had a nasty attitude and I told her to watch her attitude. She told me to watch my attitude. I asked who her supervisor was.   She told me the sales person was. That's when I called him. He said he was not her supervisor. At that point I called the 800 number and asked for a supervisor. I spoke to someone who said she would have someone call me. She also said she call if there were more problems to call her back. She said if they were done have them leave. I had them leave. The local warehouse person called and he took $200.00 of the price. That would cover replacing the radiator end and more.   The next day I realize the worker left a saw. I call and leave a message. No call back for 6+ hours. I call again. This is a massive saw. Some one will call to get it. They don’t call within requested time. I leave. They call the next day.   A couple days later it is clear that there is no caulking between tub and floor in places. Water can seep in. I call the woman at the executive office who said to call back if I had problems. Despite my having her name and number she says we have never spoken.  She seems annoyed I have called. She will have someone call me. I get a call from someone who leaves the wrong number for me to call him back. At that point I call the Better Business Bureau. A person from Empire calls to resolve the complaint. She tells me in an annoying tone that Empire doesn’t do caulking. I said then you better tell the guy who did it in the first place. Now I have to file another complaint. The tile with a lifetime guarantee is peeling.     Save yourself. SHOPE ELSEWHERE.
