  • I brought the laptop in. They had the part in stock for my laptop. They explained everything they were going to do and why. My laptop was fixed in less than a half hour. The new location is very easy to get to and leave from.

  • Once again I am compelled to comment on Stereo Component Service. We purchased an LG 48" television from them about 1 1/2 years ago. About 3 weeks ago, the TV broke down (had no picture but did have sound). When I called, they said they would send someone out to pick it up and would let me know what was wrong. They called and said it was the LED Kit. When I inquired about cost, because the set was only warrantied for 1 year,  AMAZINGLY they said they would repair it at no charge. Not only that, but they never even charged for pickup and delivery.

       I can't say enough good things about this family run company. They clearly provide excellent service and do so with courtesy and integrity. Would highly recommend them.

  • Because of the installation of a new router by my internet provider my computer was no longer communicating with my printer. Jim came over and solved the problem in no time. Pleasant, smart and not condescending to a non-computer literate person as myself.

  • The tech was prompt, friendly, and he 'knew his stuff'.  Unfortunately, my iMAC is too old to upgrade and/or to handle newer programs.  He helped me understand what I needed and I was able to buy a new MAC easily and quickly without having to spend hours in the store.  After the holidays, I will use  Geek Choice again to help me transfer stuff from my old to my new computer.

  • It went very well.  First, Geek Choice sent Michael to my house on the day that I called for service. Fantastic!  Michael had me watch him while he worked, and he explained everything that he was doing, and why.  He explained very clearly why my computer was running so slowly, talking about operating systems and RAM, and that newer programs require much more RAM than in the past.  He told me that some programs use RAM even when they're not being used. He told me that the reason I couldn't see any difference in my laptop's speed after upgrading to FiOS Quantum was that my OS wasn't able to handle it. My laptop is two or three generations behind the latest units.
    He fixed what he could, and he discussed my options, which were to either put more RAM in my older laptop, or go with a new computer which would work better and faster.
    I decided to get a new computer.  He helped me choose a new laptop on Micro Center's website.  He described what he thought were important features, and suggested that a higher-end laptop would last several years because it has greater capacity than lower-end ones.  He had nothing to gain by my choice, so I trusted his opinion.  He looked through the options, telling me what he thought was a good choice. He even filled out the order form, explaining that certain features offered as part of the "package deal" were not necessary for me, which allowed me to spend only what I truly needed to spend.
    All in all, I (and my husband, who asked Michael to look at his computer and figure out why it was running so poorly -- Michael diagnosed the problem immediately, made a couple of changes, and restored things to normal within five minutes) will definitely use Geek Choice again. In fact, I received my new laptop a few days ago, and I'm going to call Geek Choice and ask for Michael to transfer my files from my old laptop onto the new one, and set me up with the right software, including virus protection.

  • Not happy with him at all. Took him so long, I thought he was going to do the work. He was sub-contracting out the work to other contractors, that's where he kind of screws himself out of jobs. Anybody with any common sense is going to be able to tell, especially that does this kind of stuff all the time, they're going to know where this guy is coming from. If that's his way of doing business that's up to him.

    I lost money doing business with him to be honest with you, because I had a tenant ready to move in on a certain date and he said that he could have everything done by that date, but it took him two weeks to even find somebody to do the job. I lost rent money on that job.  

    I was trying to be as patient with him as I could, but after that I just said "No way, I'm never using this guy again!"

    I found another guy to do the job for half the price that he charged. I could see where him being in business for himself, he tacks something on for himself so he can make money, I get that part of it. It's just way out of pocket.

  • I was unable to get my computer to boot up. I had tried various attempts including rebooting from the replacement CDROM.  I was not sure if this was a hardware or software problem. 
    I looked on Angie's list and found Jim Rumreich ( The geek handyman computer services.)  I called
    him, discussed the problem and later that day brought the computer to him.
    He performed some preliminary checks and  thought it may be a problem with the hard drive. but wanted to perform additional test to confirm that this was the problem. He called me later that day, told me the hard drive was the problem and discussed a number of possibilities about what to do.  These included replacing the harddrive, -with a conventional drive- or using a solid state drive.  He described the pros and cons of each, including pricing. I opted to get the solid state drive, even though it was more expensive.
    ( Now, I'm very glad I did. The performance is much better.)
    After replacing the drive, Jim did a complete "mirror" image reinstall of the applications, files, data and other components.
    When I picked up the computer, Jim described the entire process he had gone through, and made recommendations that i could use to keep the computer in good form.
    The computer is back in my home and working perfectly.
    I'm very pleased with the service and would highly recommend Jim to anyone seeking computer repair or service.

  • He installed a security system on my computer. I paid for an extra hour so he could clean up and get rid of the old mail on my hard drive on my computer; however he just explained it to me instead of completing the service because we ran out of time. I was hoping that he could have completed the clean-up for me but he did do a good job installing the security system.

  • The work went smoothly and business was not intterupted by the power outage because of the back ups and battery back up they set up!
    They were onsite within hours - not days - and worked thru the closing to retify the isses we had.

  • We woke up to a computer that appeared dead. 4 beeps and nothing on the screen. We found Jim on Angies list and as he was close, made him our first call. My wife quickly arranged to drop the system off at Jim's shop. A few hours later he called with the diagnosis (bad memory), had new memory installed and we arranged to pick it up, all in the same day. The system's been working fine since.
