Landscaping reviews in East Boston

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Took a bit longer than expected (due to weather and conflicts with other projects) but at the end of the day, we're 100% satisfied with the quality of the materials and the work. Mario and his team are really outstanding.

  • What can I say. It all went according to plan. What is most important to us? Quality was spot on. Contractors and teams were always on time and courteous and worked through really crappy weather conditions to finish this project. Project was finished on the time line promised. Everything was done exactly as detailed above. Our back garden went from looking like an abandoned lot to a place we actually want to spend time in! Also: The team actually washed down the road and the sidewalk every day to ensure non of the rocks/dirt debris was left. I thought that was pretty special.

  • Mike is the best contractor I've ever hired. He was punctual, professional and a true partner throughout the process. He helped make a project plan, source materials and executed it beautifully. He leveled the backyard and installed pavers and a staircase. He was accessible and communicative throughout the process. He completed the project on time and stayed in contact with us to keep us informed of all details.
We are enjoying grilling and entertaining on the patio for the rest of the summer! Thank you, Mike!

  • I contacted John's Landscape Services Inc because I was having trouble keeping anything alive in the front of my house and needed a design for the backyard.  The design service was $500, which is deducted from the cost of the installation (if you decide to use them).  I think this is very reasonable.  The designer and I were able to communicate through email and finalize the design.  We completed the design at the end of the summer 2014, but I could not get my act together in time to install in the fall and by the time I did, they told me that there were some plants, but they did not like the size of them, so we decided to wait until the spring.  I appreciated that.
In the spring of 2015 we started the conversation to complete the install of just the front of the house design.  The design uses a lot of boulders and succulents, since the front of my house is exposed to full sun all day long. The crew arrived early in the morning and started working right away and were complete by the time I came home from work.  The end result was wonderful.
I did have a few concerns (which were addressed), which is why I did not give As across the board:
    1) Part of the design included 2 existing hibiscus plants that I have had for 10 years, I was told that they did not make it through the winter (which is understandable, since we had such a crazy winter).  A Rose of Sharon was used to replace the 2 hibiscus plants, my disappointment arises from not being warned ahead of time that this happened.  I think it would have been nice to receive a call to let me know.
    2) I did not receive any communication that the job was complete.  I emailed them to ask if all the work was complete. A quick call would have been nice, a simple courtesy.
    3) Within the week of the install, a bunch of grass started to come up through the rocks.  This was disappointing, since I had paid so much and the grass came up so soon afterwards.  I would have understood if it came up a few weeks later.  This was addressed with a complementary weeding, in fact the weeding even included weeding my planters. The planters were not part of the design.  That was unexpected and very nice of them to do.
One of the plants that they planted did die, but they promptly replaced it.
Overall, it was a good experience.

  • Sebastian and his crew worked hard to accomplish the job. As they went from tree to tree he consulted with me before cutting the limbs. Even after they were finished cutting, he still asked me if it was done to my satisfaction or could he do more. They were punctual, came with the right equipment and finished the job within 3 hours. The price was what was agreed upon in the beginning and reasonable.

  • The worker from Natural Tree and Lawn Care did a terrific job.  While he was diligently working, he allowed me to ask questions as well as to provide advice on how to improve my lawn.  My lawn has never looked better.  I am extremely pleased with the service and will gladly use them again - if needed - but also happily recommend them.

  • An 20' diameter Silver Maple branch was twisted off by Hurricane Sandy; it landed on the shed, with huge branches on the house and up against plate glass windows.  Mr. Barrett was there first thing the next day, and was very personable.  He provided a reasonable quote, and my in-laws took it.  The crew showed up within 45 minutes and in tight quarters (urban neighborhood) on a hill side, they removed the massive tree branch and its standing trunk. The crew worked efficiently, displaying expertise as arborists, engineers, large equipment operators, and rock climbers, and yes they were personable and professional!  I would hire them in a heartbeat.

  • The crew arrived on-time, the team leader (professional and courteous) introduced himself and the crew to me and got underway. The crew was well-organized and operated with precision teamwork, all the time being very careful not to damage anything in the yard. They removed the entire tree within 90 minutes (much quicker than I expected) and did an excellent job with post-clean up. Everything went the way they're supposed to go when you hire someone to do a job. Overall, I would say this experience was "outstanding."

  • I need to have a large tree removed from my yard. I called this company on 05-08-12 and left a voice-message. It is now 05-15-12 and I have not had the courtesy of a return call. I'll never understand why some companies make no effort to "hook the fish when they're nibbling at the bait."

  • After interviewing 7 different masons, and driving all around the region to look at examples of their work, we settled on Bautista Masonry.  I have to admit that I was a little skeptical because their price was on the low side.  They were a lot less talkative than most of the other masons I'd spoken to.  They listened and made suggestions when asked, but deferred to my preferences.  We were concerned about finding someone who had experience working on old houses, would understand what we were asking, and do work that was consistent with the style of the property.  We have a Victorian era brick row house and I wanted to make sure that the work was clean and matched the existing stone and brickwork.  These guys were great.  Very professional.  They showed up on time and worked from morning until late afternoon.  An elder Bautista, the uncle, was always on site to supervise the workers.  The younger Bautisa, Eder, came by periodically to check on the work and answer questions.  They were very clean and quiet.  Mr. Bautista was happy to explain the work as they did it. One of the more interesting challenges had to do with working around a massive bluestone that sits at the base of the front entry.  There is a coal chute running through this stone (capped), which empties into the space underneath.  Bautista did not want to move this stone, both because of its massive size and because it is part of the house's foundation.  The problem was that laying granite tiles over this stone raised the height of the walkway, which would mean that the granite stairs would have to be raised as well in order to keep riser heights consistent.  He contemplated adding a thin layer of granite to the front stairs, which didn't sound too appealing, but then he discovered some ultra thin granite pavers that would not change the height - problem solved.  The other problem with that big bluestone was that it was cracked.  This was not apparent until they began work in the space underneath.  They added a steel reinforcement beam, buried into the foundation walls, to keep the bluestone from moving in the future.  This seemed to be serious work, but Bautista did not blink and did not add this as a new cost.  We had one minor hiccup toward the end - a little miscommunication about how to handle some rotted bricks in the wine cellar - but Bautista fixed the issue without argument or hesitation. The space looked even better with this last fix. It was a really pleasant experience working with them.  We are very happy with their work - lots of compliments from our neighbors.  We definitely recommend Bautista Masonry and are planning to hire them again for more extensive landscaping in our backyard.  We have already recommended them to neighbors.
