    It went well. Brian, the owner came out and went over the house with us and sent us a proposal of work to be done. We went to his office to look at samples of siding and the office staff were very helpful. We asked if his workers would let us know if they ran into any wood that might need replacing and Brian assured us that his people always do that. They were up front about the extra cost should they have to replace any rotted wood. We had some spots and were glad they pointed them out. One thing we were concerned about was the lack of insulation in some areas of the house. They said they would check when they removed the old wooden shingles. They found that there was not insulation in some areas. They provided the insulation (for and extra cost) and blew it in. Overall the company was very professional and personable and very easy to work with. As a matter of fact we recently had a new smaller sliding door installed on our porch and after it was finished I called Brian to ask if they could come out to repair the siding in the area beside the slider that was now closed up. We got a response right away and two days later Jason, who did the original siding job three years ago, came up and did the repair job. I recommend this company and would definitely use them again!

    Mark runs a great business.  He's focused on customer satisfaction at a good price.  The 2 men he assigned to do the bulk of the work were a grandfather/grandson duo and they did very good work.  They were also polite and professional the whole time.  Additionally, Mark's son did some finishing work on the deck and he was also great to work with.  It took a little while to get started on the project - I think it was about 6-8 weeks from my initial contact with Mark before work actually began but that was because his teams were occupied on other jobs and I had to wait for them to free up.  Once they started, they worked efficiently and made good progress. 
    Overall, I'm very happy with the results and I will definitely look to engage North Shore Builders on future home projects. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking from someone to help with home construction projects.

    Installation was quick and no mess was left. Some details that were discussed in the quote were not met in actuality (replacing aluminum siding where removed). Overall, the install went smoothly and we were mostly satisfied. We were newly 1st time home owners at the time.
    9 years later and we discovered a leak in two of the roofs. The underlayment was saturated with water and there were signs that the flashing had not been installed properly to begin with. I called and after some discussion (and a lot of research on my part), we reached an agreement on the necessity for warranty repair. The crew came out and replaced the roofing on the two roofs. They did a much better job this time and additional securing of the vertical roofing material was installed, as it should have been during the original install. We are very happy with the repair.

    John and his son, did exactly what they said they would, at the cost they quoted even with a few extras. John, the owner was on site all the time to supervise and answer any questions I had.

      John is an easy going guy with confidence  about his work the result of many years in the business. Friendly and relatable.

      We liked having him around.

    Wife's Review:  John and his team are excellent.  John is an encyclopedia of knowledge, and has an exceptional crew.  Communication with John was excellent, and he was always available to answer questions, as well as help with other issues unrelated to the siding.  He and his crew arrived everyday, promptly, and gave us updates throughout the siding process as to how much longer it would take.  John and his younger son run a tight ship and excellent business.  They were thorough and fair.  I enjoyed having John and his crew around everyday that I intend to hire them for additional household projects.  John gave me very informative information regarding replacing our decks, but never put pressure on me to purchase this service.  I would recommend John Carroll and his son John for any project.  You will not be disappointed!

    In one of the units the butcher block counter was in rough shape and we needed some new cabinets under the island. They were able to sand and refinish the butcher block counter as well as install new shelf/cabinet unit under the island greatly improving the look of the kitchen. In another unit the drop ceiling was badly damaged. They were able to take down the old drop ceiling down and put up a nice new drywall ceiling at a very reasonable price.
    At another building one of the window frames/sills was badly damaged due to water. They came up with a creative solution to not only replace the rotten wood, but to cover the sill with sheet metal to prevent rotting in the future. The roof entrance at one of the buildings was in bad shape. We were very happy with the results of their suggestion to install siding to improve the look, and to prevent water leakage which had been a problem for a long time.
     The biggest project that Silmac General Remodeling did for us was the large roof deck. This project was complicated in many ways, but thanks to the help and experience of Silmac, the project went very well. We had to deal with Boston's Historical Society, Inspectional Services Department, and the cramped working space of Beacon Hill. However, Silmac General Remodeling was very patient, and helped us every step of the way, even taking time to repeatedly go down to the building department so that the project would not fall behind schedule.
    I appreciated that with each project, Silmac General Remodeling discussed all the details of the project up front so there were no surprises. They also discussed all the options we has with each project, the prices, and the pros and cons of each option. All the above described work was done for around $13,000.00 which is extremely reasonable for work in the city. I would recommend Silmac General Remodeling to anyone.

    Donnie came to the house to talk about his services and to take videos of the exterior.  He was on time and well prepared.  He talked about the services he and his company provided, what their philosophy was about how they provided their services and what motivated them to make sure that we were happy with the whole process and the outcome.  Donnie provided a very detailed quote and went over it with us to ensure we understood what we were paying for.  He provided a fair payment schedule and once we signed the contract he was back to the house to start work within two days.

    Every day they came to the house they were on time, unless they told us that they would be late ahead of time.  They worked quickly and it was easy to see progress being made every day.  Before they left they made sure that all the construction equipment was stowed behind the house and out of the way.  Some of our neighbors commented that they weren't even aware there was work being done because the site was left so clean every day.

    Donnie was very good about keeping us informed about what was happening and making sure we were aware of any problems they ran into.  He went above and beyond to repair some water damage that they discovered once the old siding was removed.  It was also covered in the contract!

    Donnie's attention to detail on the finish work on the windows was excellent.

    Whenever there were questions about something that needed our input we were promptly asked and then it was done.

    Overall we couldn't have been happier with the results!

    The owner, John Harmon, responded to my inquiry the next business day and we set an appointment to get an estimate. He came out a few days later and thoroughly inspected all the areas I was looking to repair/replace (including climbing onto the roof without a ladder). He also pointed out a few things I hadn't noticed (e.g. rotting shingles on one corner of the house), and he suggested ways of scaling back some of the project in order to save unnecessary cost/time (e.g. repairing the gutters rather than replacing them). I wasn't sure about re-roofing the garage and he provided an add-on estimate in case I wanted to do that too. John was very patient, answering all my questions and removing any anxiety I had about the process and cost. I asked him to prompt me for things I should be asking for, and he suggested asking about insurance, license, and warranty. That really impressed me (and it helped me when I got other estimates). In his truck he printed out a very professional, detailed, and comprehensive estimate. It listed all the services we discussed, and I was very impressed with this professionalism. The price was competitive with others, but included more work for the same price (i.e. the wall shingling wasn't even mentioned by the others). We scheduled the job but had to wait out the unending May rain. He kept me informed during the delays and told me he'd go ahead once the weather cleared. When the day came, they were here bright and early and got straight to work. They did everything over two days and were very clean, courteous, and hard-working. When they finished the job, the crew cleaned up completely. In fact, they left the house and yard cleaner than it was when they arrived. They took away all the old material and waste, and plenty of leaves, dirt and other stuff. Their work looks great. Our house looks so much better with the new shingles and repaired gutters. After the crew left, John came to the house to inspect their work and their cleanup. We chatted a bit and even talked about future work we might have done. I give HarCo my highest recommendations.

    In a word: FABULOUS! THE BID: I interviewed several general contractors and also some trades, as I was debating contracting this job myself. Michael was the only general contractor who actually heard my vision for the basement and embraced it. After interviewing trades individually, I realized I would be in way over my head and needed the help of a contractor I trusted. One of the trades I selected from Angie?s List, the highest rated electrician close to me, also happened to be Michael?s sub. He told me he was happy to work for me directly, or to be Michael?s sub, but that Michael was a general contractor who has a reputation of taking excellent care of his clients, and that I wouldn?t be sorry if I used Michael. He was absolutely right. Michael was not only the most prompt in getting me a bid, but he was also the most detailed. My bid included an 8-page contract and a detailed drawing of my basement. I could tell from the drawing that Michael had really listened to me and had a vision for the project, but his price was higher than the others. He worked with me to shave a significant amount off his bid without sacrificing my happiness with the final product. THE PERMITTING: Michael has a personal relationship with the building authorities in my town of Danvers, and even used to sit on the board. Within 2 days of signing the contract, we were fully permitted and ready to go, and it was Christmas week, no less. I couldn?t believe it! THE JOB: Michael is the best. He is skilled and a perfectionist. His communication is excellent. Several surprises came up during the project, and he didn?t charge me extra to remedy them even though he could have. He put my satisfaction at the top of his priority list, and was cheerful to receive constructive criticism from me. Michael?s assistant Rick, his son Tyler, and his electrical, plumbing, plaster, and painting subs are also top-notch: reliable, courteous, professional, and skilled. I have the highest respect for all of them. Michael?s been in this business since the 80?s and has had a relationship with most of his subs for almost that long. His assistants and subs were all great guys who take pride in their work. I would have any of them back. Michael prides himself on being on-time and on-budget. He nailed the budget. He and his subs ate setbacks like repairing improper framing from the previous homeowner and recalled piping in my HVAC system (they actually pulled and replaced it all at no cost to me, even though that wasn?t in my contract) with no charge-backs to me at all. On the few change-orders that I requested after we signed the contract, those line-item additions were reasonably priced, some shockingly lower than I expected. As far as on-time, Michael did his best. We had A LOT of snow this winter, which really interfered with our schedule, along with some unanticipated framing issues left behind by the previous owner. By the end, we were a couple of weeks late, which really isn?t bad, all considered. I started to get really anxious for the project to be done, and fired off a couple of overly-emotional emails to Michael. Gracious as always, in response to the first, he was at my home to talk to me within an hour, on a Saturday night! In response to the second, Michael got his painter to cheerfully put in an almost 18-hr Friday and brought in 2 additional painters just to get the job done in time for the weekend. I was so impressed! I?m sure he was just as eager as I was to be done with my job, but he also insisted that no corners be cut, and that my long-term happiness with the finished product was paramount. Not once did I ever see him without a smile on his face. His subs listen to and respect him, too. Just an all-around amazing guy. THE EXTRAS: One of my favorite parts of the whole project was an under-stairs playhouse for my kids. I came up with the concept, emailed a couple of idea pictures to Michael, and he ran with it. He was just as enthusiastic as I was about it, and he made several suggestions to the design that improved it. Michael is as much of a teacher as he is a skilled tradesman. Several times throughout the project, he patiently and respectfully took the time to explain to me why something I requested needed to be done a certain way. I learned a lot through the process and know that I got the best possible finished product for the price I paid.
