    Acton Woodworks, Inc.
Glenn's team did excellent work. The bathroom space is quite small and our house is old so nothing is level or square. Despite these problems, the work was very well done and we are completely happy with the results. Glenn worked with my wife and me to solve a number of design challenges the job presented. The roll-out cabinet was a great solution to our storage problem in the bathroom. Glenn has a "can-do" attitude and is unflappable. No matter what problem popped up (and they always do in old houses), Glenn found a clever solution. He also has great suppliers who have excellent products and who also worked with us to come up with choices that fit our needs and budget. Acton Woodworks is not cheap. You can probably find lower quotes from other contractors but we felt we got good value for our money. And if Glenn said he'd do something, he did it. Totally reliable. We would certainly hire him again.

Three Sons Window & Door Inc
In a word, excellent. We are first time home buyers and bought a fixer-upper in Concord MA. We had lots of projects that had to all be timed correctly using many different contractors. Paul (owner) sat us down and went through everything we needed to do and instead of pressure us to GC the whole thing himself, he said he'd walk us through it and help. The result was a project that came in on time and on budget. Paul and his sons were very responsive to all our requests and even made suggestions for helping in other areas without letting costs go out of control. My wife and I felt particularly good with how other tradesmen commented on Three Son's work. We had 4 separate tradesmen comment on how well the work was done and the quality of the materials being used. We have hopes of putting an addition on our house one day, and Paul will be our first call. It was very clear from our experience that he works to build life-long relationships for repeat business. Highly recommended!

    Fresh Start Contracting
Fresh Start was the general contractor for our kitchen remodel:  installed hardwood floors, additional electric subpanel, moved plumbing, installed tile/stone/glass backsplash, carpentry to finish the skylight trim, drywall and painting of kitchen walls.  Time ($65/hr) and materials plus 20% seemed excessive, where the 20% charge was applied to subcontractors.  For example, the backsplash cost $1,600+20%:
    - $1,200 for the labor (Julio Designs), plus 20%
    - $400 for the tile (Roma Tile, Watertown Tile), plus 20%
The electrician was $3,800 (Superior Electrical), plus 20%.
The worst part was the poor communication and the lack of transparency in the expense items.
We do not recommend this company.

    Benchmark Home Painters LLC
We moved last fall to Concord and removed a dated knotty pine wall and fireplace mantle from the family room.  We needed some hard plaster wall repair and painting done prior to a new gas fireplace insert and mantle being installed.  Our daughter-in-law  recommended Benchmark Home Painters to us as she had used them previously and was very pleased with their work.  We were under a tight time frame coordinating with the gas fitter and stove installer.  We called Galen and he quoted us a very fair price and said that the work would be done right and done on time.  He was true to his word and actually was on site the last day to make sure we were pleased with the finished work.  We highly recommend Benchmark Home Painters!.  Thank you Galen!

    Three Cedar Construction
I have hired Chris over the past 8+ years to do work on two different homes. He is my go-to carpenter. He did a partial remodel of our kitchen in our previous home, including a new door and an entirely new mahogany deck. He understood we wanted to do the very minimum nice work possible since a sale was in the future. He helped us get a LOT for the least cost. He has painted and made many repairs for us and last year did a partial exterior paint of our current home and this year, the same. He can sub out or hire assistants as needed. Chris is honest, reliable, kind, and does good work. He can definitely underestimate the time it will take him to accomplish something...and I factor this in when we make plans!

    Johnnys Painting & Drywall Service
It actually wasn't a very good experience. The guy who did the plastering wasn't aware of the $99 deal and he refused to accept it. I ended up having to pay him $200. The drywall guy and the guy who runs the painting business weren't communicating. The drywall guy didn't know anything about this discount. He finished the work and I tried to pay him, he said he doesn't know anything about the discount. I paid him his hourly rate. He didn't do a great job. He didn't honor the discount.

The dryer vent in a condo constructed in the early 70s consisted of a spiral plastic tube that went up the wall and across the ceiling and emerged under a balcony where it could not be seen. Not to code and a definite fire hazard. I had two other contractors quote the work, but they were definitely hackers and refused to take down the cupboards above the dryer, required to do a good job. Two other general contractor/handyman businesses would not even come to look. John Mason worked with me to find the best solution and it was clear from the outset that he would do a high quality job.
The OK from the condo board came only the day before the tentative date, and they wanted a different solution than we had  proposed. John agreed to the new solution and only slipped the start date by one day. When we opened the ceiling, we found that we had to change plans again. The guy in charge, Drew, was able to accommodate the new plan and completed the work in one very long day. Work involved patching holes in walls and ceiling, also well done.
The tile in the corner of the tub/shower had caved in and was a potential leak. John removed the tile himself to make sure it didn't break. He recommended that we re-grout the whole tub and lower half of the wall in the small room so it would all match, which I agreed to. Job was well done and looks great.
Drew and his helper Colin were a delight to work with. Polite, efficient, and willing to take my suggestions even though I am female. Clean up was excellent.

    MP Property Maintenance
Mike and company were on time, got right to work, and very professional. They let me know if there were complications and gave me options on how they could go about fixing it. I really appreciated their hard work and their honesty. I would hire Mike again.

Colin did an amazing job of pulling all the bricks off the top platform and rebuilding it.  He used the same bricks but scraped all the cement off each one and then rebuilt the top platform.  The tricky part was getting the bricks off the part of the platform that had the railing in them.  Colin then worked on garage wall to take off all the falling plaster/sheetrock along the bottom of the wall. The area was 12 feet long by 2 feet high which needed repairing. He used a thin layer of cement to patch the wall. Awesome job.
The job took 2 days to complete.  Colin arrived at 8:30 both mornings (on time) and worked to late afternoon.
Very professional and I highly recommend Three Masons.

    FONSECA HOME IMPROVEMENT
He responded quickly to my initial inquiry. He came at first opportunity to assess the work and time needed. He said this first phase of work would take 2 days. We scheduled a day to start for 3 days out. He was pleasant, punctual, prepared, organized, thorough and neat. He takes his work seriously and diligently works until he completes the projects at hand. It took him exactly 2 days to complete that handy work. He was a pleasure to have around. And he took his mess with him. : ) we have much more needed handy work and I look forward to hiring him again.
