  • Brian was prompt in getting my call, scheduling an appointment for the next morning, and arriving right on time for our broken fridge (wasn't cooling). Upon arrival he quickly assessed the problem and suggested buying a new one due to the cost involved with repairing an older out dated fridge. While he wasn't there long I appreciated his honesty, professionalism, friendliness, and that he didn't try and milk the appointment for more. He even discounted the Angie's List coupon without my asking. I would and definitely will use him again for future appliance repairs.

  • I contacted Brian on Sunday to request that he repair my washing machine which would not power on. He replied soon after and said he would come on Tuesday. Since I would not be home that morning, he said he would arrive between 12 and 2. He asked me to email him the model number of the machine, which I did. When he arrived on Tuesday right at 12, he determined I needed a new door latch. Suspecting that was the problem before he came, he had tried to purchase a new door latch to bring with him but his supplier was temporarily out of stock. He said he would return on Thursday between 12 and 2 with a door latch .Once again he arrived right at 12. He installed the new door latch and ran the washer through the cycle with no problem. However, after he left, I tried to do a load of clothes but the washer wouldn't power on. I called Brian on his cell phone and he suggested I try unplugging the electric cord for 30 minutes and then plugging it in again. It worked and the machine has run fine ever since. I would definitely call Brian again for an appliance repair.

  • CONSUMER FRAUD ALERT:   I contaced Bill Carter at Advanced Appliance first around July 21 to see if he came to my geographic area  concord] as he was in Chelmsford. He sold me the Angies Deal on the phone and agreed to come on July 25.  I told him that the dishwasher had worked fine until I had replaced a disposal and then run the dishwasher without putting the water back on.  I verfied there was water to dishwasher, and that it hummed as if it was turned on. Water was able to get there, but the dw wasn't calling for it to fill tub.   He examined it briefly and diagnosed I needed a new water valve.
     I heard him on the phone and clearly heard the parts person say the part was $28 ish.  Bill told me the part was $88 and he would return the 28th or 29th to put it in. I questioned the cost of the part.  [I later called cousins in the appliance repair business and asked about the part. I live too far from them in MA for them to do the work.   I was told it wholesales at $28.35 and retails to consumer at $34.80].  Bill at Advanced charged me $88 for that part, when all he had to do was pick it up from the wholesaler.  That is a ridiculous mark-up and gouging.  
    As I was was going to be away the 29th-31st I asked for the 28th.  He said he would be here around 12, but arrived so late I had to leave to take my daughter to a  2:45 dr appt I had told him about when we scheduled.  He put the  water valve in and the dw didn't work.  He replaced a perfectly good part, which I saved.  He then claimed I needed a new door lock mechanism, and that was the problem and he would order the door part.  My dw had worked perfectly for the 4 years I had purchased it new until now.  He supposedly ordered the part and would return after I got back. I called him on 7/31 and on 8/1.  He doesn't work after 5, on weekends, or on Fridays.  He told me he didn't think he could be here Monday, but would come Tuesday 8/5 as second call of the day.  I waited all day and around 3 he said he couldn't make it and would come Wed 8/6.    On Wed I waited and he called and said he would come first thing Thursday 8/7 between 9-10 am.  Thursday 8/7 he never showed and called around 11 am to claim he just noticed lime disease and had to go to a hospital urgently to get shots.  I left him a message asking for my money back and telling him he could come get the overpriced part he replaced of a perfectly good working part.  He left me a nasty message back saying that my area was too far [concord] he would stay closer to chelmsford, and  he didn't care about any poor review.
    ANGIES list should not allow him to offer services again.  He is looking for the easy work and marked up parts. I have called my local state rep to see about adding some consumer protections about the mark-up.  He promotes based on a low labor charge to gouge customers on parts they don't need. Its August 10 and my dishwasher isn't fixed.  3 weeks is a long wait.  FORGET this business.

  • This is an update to my original review.

    My initial experience with Same Day Service was unacceptable. I am glad I gave them the opportunity to turn things around. They pulled out all the stops. Both the service manager and a repair technician came out to replace the heating element in the dryer and the pump in the washer. The dryer is working perfectly. The washer has exactly the same problem as before -- standing water in the bottom of the basket at the end of a load. Call me "halfway to happy."

    I revised my initial overall score to "B" from "F." Even though the washer is not fixed, I have the impression that Same Day will work with me to resolve the problem. It is evident that the diagnostic tech misdiagnosed the problem. He cut me off when I was explaining the problem to him. He claimed to be able to diagnose the bad pump by sound alone. The new pump is somewhat quieter than the old one, but the washer still does not drain.

    I wil update this review again after Same Day has a chance to respond to the washer issue.

    I first called Same Day Service in the early morning of 12/17. The phone agent offered to send a technician to diagnose the problem with my washer and dryer in a few days. After some pressing, the agent agreed to send a tech the same day. I found this mildly off-putting. After all, they picked the name, "Same Day Service," not me. Their website boasts, "... you want quality service TODAY, just pick up the phone and give us a call ..." (emphasis mine). You shouldn't have to press for the company for timely service if that's what Same Day advertises.
    The technician arrived on time and took about 15 minutes to reach a diagnosis: heating element in dryer burned out and water pump in washer needs replacement. They charged me $725.15 at that time. Same Day needed to order parts, so repairs could not be completed at that time.
    A different technician returned one week later, on 12/24. He had the parts, but he was not able to complete the repair. The repair technician was unable to remove a screw on the washer, which prevented him from replacing the pump. He informed me that he would not repair the dryer because of a problem with the vent that the diagnostic technician failed to diagnose.
    The technician said he would submit my bill for reimbursement, but he was unable to tell me how much I would be reimbursed. I called the company right after the technician left. Same Day got back to me quickly and promised to refund the full amount.
    Overall, this was a complete fail. Working with this company was a colossal waste of time. It is one week later, and I am no closer to a repair on my washer and dryer. I am happy that they will refund my money, but I would much rather have had working appliances.
    I rated this company a "C" on professionalism. On the minus side, the original technician did not properly or completely diagnose the problem. On the plus side, Same Day agreed to a full refund. The repair technician seemed very experienced. The diagnostic technician was not careful. He did not check the vent at all. The phone staff was helpful -- other than having to press for a same day appointment during the first call.
    I gave them an "B" on punctuality. All of the technicians were very good about calling half an hour before they showed up. But I had to press them during the initial call to get a same day appointment.
    I gave them a "B" on responsiveness because they agreed to a complete refund. I did not give an "A" because they did not offer me a way to get my repair completed in a reasonable timeframe.
    The price was on the high side, but I was completely willing to pay it for timely, quality service.
    The quality of the diagnostic work was unacceptable. Hence, the "F" grade on quality.
    I would be more comfortable with this company if the charged after completing repairs instead of before.

  • We used Sheehan's appliance service for a major repair on our 10-year old GE refrigerator. Brian was extremely responsive-- answered his cell phone and happened to be nearby on another job, so he was at my house within a few minutes. He gave me an estimate, but the refrigerator seemed to be working again and I didn't call him back for another week, when it started acting up again. He came back with the parts in a couple of days and replaced the control board and sensor ( approx $350). When the refrigerator still failed to cool, he came back the next day (on a Saturday after working all day on another job) and made a minor adjustment. The fridge is working fine now. Brian was very professional, returned calls and gave a reasonable window of arrival time. He kept in touch if he was delayed. The final bill was the same as the estimate.

  • Wayne and Jeff were terrific.  Wayne diagnosed the problem and cleaned the dishwasher.  He pointed out that the prior owners had used too much soap and cleaned up the fouled parts.  He also asked if I needed any advice with any of our other appliances and showed us how to work the ice maker on the refrigerator.  Jeff came and got everything going fine.  They showed up when they said they were going to and were great to work with.
