    MasonWorks LLC
Overall, I am very pleased. The project had two distinct portions. The first was masonry work to rip up portions of the floor, pour footings, and build four block walls and several pads for supports. The second was carpentry work to sister the joists. I thought both crews were skilled, professional, and efficient. They all did a great job of cleaning up and of respecting my neighbors and the property throughout the project. The initial bid appointment was handled by Jeff. Bruno then ran the masonry portion of the project, and Jeff ran the carpentry portion. Both were consistently professional and responsive when I called them. Jeff in particular took extra time on multiple occasions to make sure I understood things. Overall, I believe the work was done well. But there was a curveball towards the end that is worth a little time. I had been asking all along how some temporary screw jacks were going to be removed (their elimination was part of the reason for doing the project). Finally, at the end, it became clear that there would be a problem removing them. I believe that Masonworks felt the engineer's drawings didn't consider existing conditions properly; I believe the engineer felt that Masonworks hadn't built what he drew and should have called him to discuss challenges. I don't have the technical expertise to evaluate that one well and figure out how things got scrambled; I just know that I'd asked Bruno about it on the first day and workers from each crew thereafter. So I was disappointed that we had an issue late in the process. That said, once we identified the problem, I thought that Jeff was extremely professional and effective at dealing with it. He met with the engineer, kept the focus on finding solutions, and explained to me clearly what he would do. I have been in situations like this before, and his management of this situation was far better than I have seen from most contractors. At the end of the day, we agreed to a change order, and he completed the work. I think Jeff priced the change order extremely fairly (three new lally columns and footings, a bunch of additional reinforcement of sistering that had been notched or divided, and a new steel beam), and more importantly kept his focus on getting the job done well. At the end of the day, I figure the crews did have to come out again, and they all have to eat, so I didn't get stuck on paying a little more. Though I am disappointed that we wound up with a bit of a mess at the end of the job, I do believe that Jeff's handling of it is greatly to his credit. You don't always get to see how people handle problems. And based on my experience, I believe you can trust Jeff to handle them well and fairly. That goes a long way in my book. I do think the there is room for improvement on the communication side of the job. There was a lag of multiple weeks between my acceptance of the bid and the start of work; I had no idea what timelines were during this period. There was also a multiple week gap between the masonry and carpentry portions; again, I had no idea what was going on. Each time, I learned that we might be getting going when I noticed that someone had been in my house and called to figure out why. The team was very responsive when I called to figure out what was going on -- I simply found it odd that nobody was calling me to communicate proactively. And the same sort of situation basically led to the snarl at the end -- I was asking, but not hard enough, about the temporary supports. I would simply recommend to future clients that they be a little less comfortable with silence than I was -- I feel that if I had pushed harder for communication, my own frustrations would have been minimized. At the end of the day, I feel we got excellent work for a fair price. Old homes always have some challenge pop up, and I'm not surprised we ran into something here. If they're not worn out by my property, I plan to call Masonworks down the road for a second wave of work, and I would recommend them highly to others.

    Skillville Corp
Well, it didn't. Skillville was referred to me by an electrician I trust. They came, spent half an hour or so looking at the job, and disappeared. Seemed nice enough when they were here, but I guess they weren't interested in the work. Disappointing.

MS Masonry and Stone Services inc

As a home owner, I have dealt with many type of contractors over the years.  My experience with MS Masonry was absolutely wonderful. Magno and his co-worker, Marco, did a fantastic point job on my home and all of my lintels were smoothed out and the entire house looks brand new.  All I can say to any homeowner who is in need of any masonry work, should contact MS Masonry.  In addition, the price for all of the work done was worth it.  MS Masonry not only does a wonderful job but the cost for all that was done was more than fair.

In addition, it was not part of the contract to caulk around the storm windows but Magno told me that a number of the windows needed to be caulked and he caulked all the windows that needed to be done at no extra charge.  He also made my granite front stairs look brand new and they are the brightest looking stairs in my neighborhood.

MS Masonry and Stone is a great company to do business with and the owner Magno is the nicest person you will ever meet.  He is a true professional!

Many of my friends and neighbors have told me how beautiful my house looks and they have asked for MS Masonry's business card which I gave them and they indicated that if they are in need of any future work, they will contact MS Masonry first.

    Cagnina Masonry & Landscaping
I purchased a Big Deal for wall repair work in my basement.  Jack Cagnina was great to work with.  He immediately sent an e-mail to schedule the consultation.  He followed up with a phone call and came out to my house within days.  He explained the work he would do.  Everything was covered under the coast of the Big Deal and there were no extra charges for the scope of the work.  He came back to do the work within days of the estimate.  He complete the work in the time frame he promised.  He was communicative, punctual, efficient and he did a great job.  I would definitely use him for other masonry jobs!

The work went great and we are very happy with the end product. We didn't know exactly what we could do to stop the decaying brickwork short of rebuilding the entire brick wall --- an actual solution provided to us by another mason, but way too costly for us to consider. Jack offered the simple and straightforward fix that we were looking for which entailed cleaning off the old parging in areas of decay, along with some areas of decaying brick work, and then re-parging and sealing the wall. Jack and 2 of his workers were able to accommodate our Saturdays only times of availability and completed the work in just 3 visits, allowing time for the parging to cure before applying the sealer. They worked in the basement during those Saturdays without our hardly knowing they were down there, cleaning up and removing all the debris at the end of their workday. In short, we would highly recommend them to anyone and in fact plan to have them back within the next month or two to tackle the remainder of our basement walls, after we complete the installation of a new boiler and flue.

John Anzuoni was given a $8,500 deposit and very simply walked off with the money. He performed absolutely no service whatsoever. He claimed he needed the deposit to purchase the waterproofing equipment. He has not responded to calls for 3 weeks. I am consulting an attorney but as he is neither licensed or bonded I fear I have no avenue to get the money back.

    Capital Construction Contracting Inc

He came out to my house on a second time and showed me the different cinder blocks. I was very impressed by him and he was very nice! He also offered to show me all of his licenses. I mailed him a picture of the wall  I wanted to use and I am waiting to hear back from him.

I told them what I needed done. They never followed up. They said they would come out and I didn't need to be at home. They said they would e-mail back with an estimate in a day or two. I never got the e-mail.
