  • All the asbestos is gone! They even did it in fewer days than predicted. The 2-man crew was great. They showed up when they said they would, each time. YET you can find out more about people and companies when something goes wrong - and this company stuck to their word to fix something that went unpredictably wrong. It had nothing to do with asbestos - all of that was safe and sound. There was an unpredictable thing that happened, and Peniel went above and beyond to fix the situation! They are a rare company - doing the best job and sticking to their word! So, if you are considering Peniel or another company, go with Peniel - who are "good people". I appreciate honest and fair companies when I need work done, I'm sure you do too. If I have any other disaster I'd contact them in a flash. What more can you ask?

  • Dave was fantastic! Not only was he punctual (he actually arrived at the property before I did and performed a preliminary inspection on the outside) he was very thorough, methodical and took the time to explain things in detail and answer every question that I had. Ultimately we didn't end up purchasing the property due to the number of issues Dave uncovered and it was money well spent considering the tens of thousands of dollars we would have found ourselves putting into the home repairs. I was so impressed with the level of service he provided that I'm hiring him again to do an inspection on another home we've made an offer on.

  • The installed was excellent. He showed up on time and finished on time. He was very knowledgeable and experienced. He performed the job to my satisfaction. The warranty is very good. All in all I highly recommend this company.

  • They came early on the first day, created a containment area, did what they said they would do as per the contract. Cleaned up well after themselves. Worked around the ceiling grid of the finished basement and cleaned all the ceiling boards as well. The air duct cleaning was done well, but they couldn't confirm if they got the dead mouse out. Installed dehumidifier with water pumped to the outside. Gave basic dehumidifier operating instructions.

  • We called Mr. May on the recommendation of our home inspector, in order to inspect the basement insulation. Basement insulation appeared discolored and the basement was damp, so we suspected mold, and wanted to know the extent of the mold contamination. Jeff arrived on time, took air samples from the basement, gave us very relevant and useful information. The report with detailed pictures of the samples under a microscope were emailed to us promptly. He made good recommendations about how to do mold remediation.

  • Wayne arrived well before the appointment time, getting a feel for the exterior. His method of focusing on a section of the house alone, then bringing us in to brief us was convenient and I believe it allowed him to get into much more detail than he could have otherwise. His knowledge was incredible, not only about identifying problems, but also explaining why they formed, how they could progress, how sever they were, and how to fix them. His communication was clear but efficient, and as a first-time homebuyer I had no problem understanding him thanks to his patient explanations. His report is very nice, color-coded by severity, and arrived an hour or two after the inspection. I definitely recommend being present for the inspection, as the information during the inspection outweighs the report despite it being 24+ pages. Thanks to Wayne, we discovered several issues with the house that the realtor misrepresented, and knew to walk away from the deal. I'll be using Wayne for the next house that I will try, and would recommend him to anyone who values thorough information on the house they will purchase.

  • Like many others we had ice dam issues over the last few years.  After making repairs to outside, we were finally ready to paint the interior, but wanted first to confirm there was no mold damage.  We wanted to get an unbiased opinion.  We had heard from freinds who use a mold remediation company that they always found damage and were happy to give a quote to do the repair.  May just does inspections, no vested interest in the results.
Jeff may showed up right on time on a Saturday morning and then spent 3 hours walking me through the entire house, inside and out.  In most of the rooms we were concerned about, Jeff did a visual inspection and told us there was nothing to worry about.  In one room where he was concerned, he used a camera to inspect inside the wall and took some air samples from the wall cavity.  As we were doing this, Jeff gave us many many helpful hints about air quality, heating systems, roofing.  He is a true professional, extremely knowledgeable (he literally wrote the book on how to keep your home healthy), more than willing to share, honest, a pleasure to work with.  In a few days he provided a very detailed written report on his findings, one again filled with great suggestions.
May is the best, not the cheapest but well worth the peace of mind.  I highly recommend him.

  • We were having a furnace installed, when we suspected there was an asbestos underlayment underneath where the old furnace (which was just removed) was. The installers understandably did not want to proceed until it was taken care of. Since this was in the middle of winter, we were obviously in a hurry to get this sorted.
We called S & S Abatement, and they had someone out to our location within a few hours. Immediately, he was able to provide the opinion that it did not appear to be asbestos after all. However, in order to be sure, he said the material would need to be tested. He took a sample and bagged it for us so we could take it to a local lab that he referred us to. The lab confirmed his original assessment.
As no asbestos removal was necessary, we were not charged. Nevertheless, we greatly appreciate the prompt service, and hopefully this positive review will help show our gratitude for taking the time to assuage our concerns.

  • I did the home inspection remotely, and had a friend come up during the inspection since I was unable to make it. So, for the inspection, my realtor and my friend were present.
Wayne arrived half an hour before scheduled to begin external evaluations. During the inspection, my friend and my realtor were both impressed with the thoroughness of the inspection. What stood out to me as an example of his thoroughness was from the report where he checked each and every door (among a host of other items, of course) for ease of entry.
More impressively with Wayne was his follow through with me. After reviewing his report, I compiled a list of questions and delivered them via e-mail. In addition to responding in kind, he offered to have me call him to receive a verbal explanation of any report items that I wanted clarification on. Moreover, he responded immediately to two separate e-mails regarding questions on the radon test.
My only minor grievance is that the report is an unusual format. Instead of displaying information relevant only to my house, each section (e.g., attic, roof, plumbing, etc.) had a list of 6-8 common issues, with the issues pertaining to my house being checked off. It was initially confusing to see mention of a garage, for example, whereas my house does not have a garage. He mentions in the introduction of the report to only consider the checked items, but it seems like an unnecessarily confusing way to save time in doing reports (instead of simply deleting the irrelevant items).
Finally, cost I gave a B, because he charged ~$600 for the inspection (+$75 for the radon - it looks like I just missed out on a free radon test via Angie's list). A VERY fair price, I think, but he was $100-200 more than the lowest options of the 6 that I had called before choosing Wayne. Would I have liked it cheaper? Yes. Would it be a fair price for his services (which include pest and mold)? No.

  • Simply put, Inspector Tom B was awesome.
I contacted MKC for a pre-purchase home inspection. I'm a first-time home buyer so of course everything is new to me :)
Right away, Tom set my expectations for everything he was going to do and talk about, and throughout the whole process continued to explain everything to me. This was perfect, as I didn't have any clue what to be looking for, and I'm the type of person that really wants to understand EVERYTHING. He took the time to explain why he was noting things on the report, what the particular concerns are, and how one might think about addressing them. In situations where he didn't have a recommendation, he was quick to mention how I could get more information.
Throughout the whole process he was professional, respectful, and just a nice guy. My Realtor mentioned that many inspectors can be alarming - pointing out every little detail in an overly-negative way and doing their part to scare homebuyers! Tom was not that. The house is very old, and therefore we expected to find a lot of issues (and did), but he did a great job of just pointing everything out and giving me a calm explanation for me to make my own decisions on.
I could imagine that the information technique might not work for all homeowners - maybe someone just wants to know the important stuff - but it was a perfect fit for me. I did mention that up-front to him, so maybe he tailored his work towards that. If that's the case, then "Bravo"!
Overall I'm very pleased with the inspection process, the generated report, and Tom as a professional. Definitely recommend!
