Snow Removal reviews in Cambridge

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Great service and high quality. We have a tricky driveway to clear, but the crew consistently did a stellar job despite the challenging conditions. Very professional and responsive to questions and special requests.

  • Chimney flashing had come loose so the roof was leaking.  With all the snow we had they were super busy but they promised to get to us before the end of the year.  The day they were able to come we couldn't be home so they carried everything up ladders to the roof of our Cambridge triple decker.  I was so happy to discover (returning home) that the job had been completed--and especially since it snowed and snowed and snowed right after that repair.  We will need to have this roof totally done at some point; I'll call Newton Roofing again.

We did some back and forth calling.  There was a lot of leaky roofs and roofers were really slammed when we needed ours done too.  But they didn't over-promise and got the work done by the date they said they would.  The price wasn't the lowest (estimate) but it wasn't the highest either.  We all thought it was fair (condo assoc).

  • Jose and his team arrived very promptly and they were all very professional. After Jose went over what I wanted with me, the team fell to it and very quickly the garden and the front were cleared and the bushes and damaged plants trimmed. I was pleased to learn that Roberto also does snow removal and fencing, and I look forward to getting a quote on both.

  • Mr. Hugo Diaz and his men Jose , Edison and others have been doing landscaping and snow removal for my Cambridge home for several years now.  I just leave a phone message and they get back to me right away .
Spring/Fall clean up, contouring, mulch, weeding, hedges, grass mowing, snow removal in name it..they excel .FAST and thorough.
They are well known in the neighborhood, trustworthy and friendly. Their price list is fair and I continue to have Marquense Landscaping as my 'go-to' company for snow removal and gardening.
Speaking of snow..these guys are out there in the wee hours of the a.m. clearing stairs and walkways, driveways, and make several passes during a storm.
    You won't be disappointed.

  • I had high hopes for MasonWorks, because of their many reviews on Angie's List.  MasonWorks has good reviews, Bruno was responsive to my request for a quote, and his price wasn't cheap but I think "you get what you pay for."  While Bruno was good about coming to give an estimate, we had problems once the service started.
The request was to completely clear the driveway and front sidewalk, and to apply de-icer on the sidewalk.  After visiting our property, and it's limited places to put snow, Bruno suggested we go with snow-shoveling versus plowing; I took his suggestion because it was less likely to damage our fence, better suited to our property layout, but it was more expensive.  Again, "you get what you pay for."
Of course, there is the caveat that the Winter 2014/2015 was horrendous, but some of the problems were independent of the massive amount of snow we received.
    1)   On their first visit, the guys never showed up until I called and texted 3 times.  This storm was, at most, 6", and they showed up in the afternoon after the snow stopped early in the morning.   By the time MasonWorks came, my neighbor and I had dug out 50% of the property.  Not a huge deal.
    2)  The first massive storm was 28" in February.  The guys came quickly after the storm has subsided, which was much appreciated.  However, they tried to dig a path from the street to the car in the back of the driveway.  It was obvious that a car couldn't fit through the path.  Our neighbors told them this wasn't acceptable, and they then cleared the entire driveway.  They were here for 3 hours, and I even tipped the guys after they were done, because they did a good job.   The bill for the job was massive, but I thought they'd done a good job.
    3)  Another massive storm hit, and I got 2 separate emails from my neighbors saying they saw the guys shoveling snow from our sidewalk onto their cars that were parked on the curb, and into the areas around the car that my neighbors had dug out.  That's not cool.   I sent a note to Jeff via email, and got a quick and terse response saying that his team didn't re-bury the cars.
    4)  Another storm hit - I got a 3rd email from my neighbors saying that they had again seen the team shoveling snow from the sidewalk into the space they had dug out around their car.   My neighbors aren't fussy people, and this was our third note, so I knew something was up.  I sent another note to Jeff, and got another terse response saying that it wasn't true, and then offering to remove the snow for a very high price.
I understand that there was a LOT of snow, and few obvious places to put it, but we were paying a LOT to MasonWorks, and expected them to pile it high, ask for additional ideas on where to put snow, etc.   But, no luck, just jerky responses.
    5)  Lastly, I got an invoice for the first storm (where they were late to show, and we did 50% of the property.)   The invoice was for the full amount, so I challenged it and said I'd pay for half, since we'd shoveled half the property.  I got no response, sent a follow up with a check for 50% of the invoice, and then never any response.
On the whole - not a terrible experience.  When a check I sent got lost in the mail, Jeff let me know it never showed and was patient in waiting for it to be delivered - I eventually sent another check.
However, considering the elevated price, I would expect more-professional communications and better attention to detail.  Burying neighbors' cars isn't cool, then denying it when I asked (nicely) wasn't cool.

  • We have tried 3 or 4 different companies over the last 10 years and they have been disappointing but this service was great. Nate Betts was our point of contact. He was incredibly responsive, professional, the rates were clear, informative, timely. Anytime I needed service I sent him a text and they got it done. He does a very great job and I couldn’t say anything better about the work they have done for you.

  • Joe did an amazing job clearing 4 dumptruck loads of snow from a busy business block in Harvard Square. He called me back within half an hour, came to the site immediately, and began work the same day. It was a tough job, in a tight space with a lot of pedestrian traffic, and a delicate brick paved roadway. Everything went perfectly and the results were everything we expected.

  • Although Mike's fell out our our needs for snow clearance on our smallish condominium space, they impressed me with their professionalism and commitment to service.
They also do a number of landscaping tasks, such as tree trimming, that I will definitely invite them here to quote on the work we need when we can see the trees. It will only be then that I can comment of where they fall in the spectrum of price and magnitude of the job.
When I first called on the snow storm of 2/2/2015, I got an immediate response by someone who quoted the prices. I left those quotes alone, but a couple of days later, I was called again in a follow up to see what my status was. That impressed me, especially after exhaustive searches for snow clearance.
Given that level of professionalism and commitment, I will consider Mike's for my other landscaping needs. As a condominium association of 4 units, we do have to consider options between the big guys and the little fly-by-night contractors. I think that we can do business with Mike's.

  • The Nicolazzo team is very responsive and does a great job.  We used them for snow removal, not landscaping. However, we were very disappointed at the overzealous use of salt and the exorbitant pricing.
    - Mary M.
  • Douglass is very responsive over email and phone. His team has always come through and performed the work well and also has been flexible with scheduling and changes in what we want done. Our tenants have been very happy that we have been able to deal with minor and major issues quickly and they have been very pleased with the quality of his renovations! His services are all reasonably priced, and most of all, we love the one-stop shop his team offers. Another thing I should have mentioned is that when his team spots issues that we haven't even noticed, he will bring them up or address them automatically (if they are minor). That has been really helpful for us because we do not have much time for property maintenance ourselves.
