Fireplace Repair reviews in Cambridge

We were very pleased to work with Rob Scagnetti at Clappers. He was knowledgeable, listened to what we wanted, and made excellent design suggestions that all resulted in a very beautiful gas fireplace that is enhancing our living space. In addition, he was knowledgeable about the process, including the different trades’ professionals that would be required. He wrote a clear proposal and did exactly what he said, so that it came in on budget and on time. He was always on time at appointments, either at his showroom or at our home. While we knew he was busy, we felt he gave us the undivided time we needed. We heard about Rob from a high recommendation of our neighbor and are happy to recommend him, as well.

These guys are very good. I had 3 companies provide quotes and Jonathan was by far the most knowledgeable about the process, code requirements, and he had several suggestions for how we should approach the job. Installations happened over two days, results look great, and he walked me through the operation of the unit to make sure I understood everything.

It went great!! Paul assessed the situation and knew exactly what to do. Because Paul is a plumber and specializes in installing gas stoves he was able to do the job very quickly without involving many others. We made an appointment and within a couple days the fireplace was installed for a happy price!!! Paul was fast, confident, decisive and extremely skilled!!! I would definitely recommend!!!

Very well. This is one of Paul's specialties, and I would highly recommend him over another plumber who does not do this particular job very often. I did not even know the exact model of the fireplace, but he was able to narrow it down and placed the gas line in exactly the right place. My fire alarm also went off because of the dust, and Paul immediately drove back to my place to help me with that. Excellent service!!

Black Magic only came out to give an estimate. Perry missed first scheduled appointment due to illness, rescheduled for a week later and then missed the second appointment because he "forgot". This wasted hours of my time. Weeks later, I contacted the second owner and scheduled another appointment, as this is one of the few vendors who carries the fireplace I would like to install. The second owner also rescheduled once due to a calendar conflict but showed up on time for the appointment. However, upon arrival, he stated that he was "pressed for time", spent 2 minutes looking up into my fireplace and promptly left, saying that I needed to hire a mason to go any further with the project. I will seek another company who values its customers instead of treating them like a nuisance.

Derek cleaned and serviced the 15+ year old Majestic gas fireplace...cleaning was done while taking care to keep the living room clean and all service-able parts were tested/maintained. No further work was required.

About 4 weeks after the job was complete, I started noticing that some of the tiles were not completely secure. I instantly sent an email to inform him about the issue. He responded requesting more information about what tiles and where. I responded but never heard back. On December 11th, I emailed him to let him that a different tile had completely fallen off the structure. Since then, I have lost 4 or 5 tiles. I emailed again on December 12, including a photo. Again on January 7th and 8th. I have yet to hear back from him.

The work started in June and was pretty much complete by the end of October.  That's a quick turnaround.  We interviewed several
contractors.  None could complete the job in that time frame; their estimates ran from $1.2M to $490,000.
The quality of the work was excellent.  They built us a high end home and those who see it are always impressed by the quality of the finishes.  I was around the site constantly during construction and I could see that no corners were being cut, that the work was done responsibly.  It is a well built home.  We are especially pleased with the framing and the cabinet work.
One of the great qualities of Mattos Co. was that we never felt that we were billed unfairly or being surprised with additional charges.  I know that it's all to common to have a relationship with a contractor in which the budget seems to be a moving target.  Jel, the owner of Mattos Co., is an honorable person, a quality we very much appreciate.
Another thing we liked was that as a group, the workers were civilized people who were pleasant to be around.  They took pride in their work.  They hustled.  The neighbors noticed this professionalism as well.
We would hire them again gladly.  Mattos did great by us.  We were fortunate to find them.

We had a small gas leak which NStar had located. Called Papalia to get an estimate, as we'd used them before, about 2 years ago.
The technician was out the next day, very pleasant. But he could not easily proceed because of where the gas line was. He offered to cut open the cabinet himself, but recommended we have the builder do it. I appreciated the honest advice, and took it.
When the cabinet was opened, I called, and they were out the very next day. The same nice person came out, and after I approved the estimate, he proceeded.
Everything was done correctly, cleanly, quickly and professionally.
    I'd definitely use them again.

My gas fireplace came with my home when I bought it. I don't know who installed it originally. I had it serviced before but rarely used it. When I could not get the pilot lit, I called M&M Chimney for repair. Scheduling was easy and the repairman arrived on time. When he looked under the fireplace he exclaimed "who the [heck] installed this?!" There was a live wire lying exposed under the fireplace, a clear safety hazard if the gas ever leaked. This wire was supposed to connect to an optional blower which had never been installed. Again, I cannot say who installed it like that.

To M&M's credit, the repairman immediately capped the exposed wire to mitigate the safety hazard. However he could not get my fireplace pilot lit. He left, saying he needed to contact the manufacturer and would call back Monday. Monday came and went. That Thursday, I called them and left a message. No response. On Friday and Monday, I called again and left messages. No response. The following Friday I called and left one more message saying if I did not hear from them by Monday I would consider them to have abandoned the job. They never called.

They never sent me a bill, either. So they wasted not only my time, but their own.

Later that week I called another company, who fixed my pilot easily.
