I have used Elegant for years. They have reliably shortened my husbands' pants, relined a winter coat for me and done most of our dry-cleaning and summer storage. They are kind and a pleasure to work with. I have not brought more demanding tailoring to them, but for hems, sleeves and waists they have been absolutely fine.

Elegant ruined a custom tailored shirt and refused to compensate me in any way. I've found they are genetic rough on clothing that I have sent in for dry cleaning. They do not stand behind their work. I would stay away from Elegant Tailor.

I found out about Lord's Cleaners in 2014 when I used to live in Watertown, through Angie's List. Although my previous dry cleaner did excellent work, I had to carefully inspect the clothes upon retrieval and ask for clothes to be re-cleaned every time. Though it was at no charge, I was tired of the hassle, and the time I wasted going back and forth, especially since I do not own a car and use public transportation. So, I tried Lord's Cleaners, and was very impressed with their superb cleaning. I bring in a lot of stain challenges, especially on light or white clothing, and they are taken care of in one shot! I've had pills removed from white dresses and sweaters and they are the only ones that have safely removed them, without a trace. Although I moved to Medford at the end of 2014, I still prefer to drop off my clothes at Lord's Cleaners, which is now really out of my way. I have a large order done every month and a half or so, and am very satisfied. Lastly, Jun and her husband are very cordial, and honest about what can be done and what cannot. They have been eager to consider and then accommodate any special requests I may have. For instance, if I am coming to pick up the clothes, I can call ahead to have them ready at the counter.

The owner is a poor craftsman and a crook.
I was led by positive reviews on other websites to bring my watch here for repair.  I had dropped it, and the metal tick for 3 PM under the dial had detached.  The fellow at the store looks like an iconic watchmaker, but this appearance is deceptive.  On my first visit he kindly remained open past closing and chatted amicably whilst repairing the dial on the spot.  He charged me $25.  So far, he seemed to live up to the reviews.
Unfortunately, two days later, his glue job failed and the tick detached again.  I made it back to his store a week or two later and found him very different from before.  I mentioned the problem to him, and he seemed to have no recollection of me or my initial visit.  I explained the situation and he said I must be wrong, it must be a different tick that had come off.  It wasn't.  He then insisted that the glue never fails.  It had.  Finally, he grew irate and pointed out that there was no warranty on his work.  I explained that all work carries an implicit warranty that it won't fail immediately.  He refused to take any responsibility or do the work -- even though the store was empty and he clearly wasn't busy.  He demanded an additional $25 to redo the work.   I refused.  When I explained that his behavior was shameless and unprofessional he threw up his hands as if he couldn't care less.  Obviously, being reprimanded by a ripped-off customer was not a new experience for him.
I'm not sure if he's a liar or crazy or just shameless, but this man is no professional.  He performs shoddy work and does not stand by it.  He may appear the traditional watchmaker but is in fact a petty street shyster.

I am not sure what the cost of these alterations would have been elsewhere, but I thought the brice was fair considering the number of items I brought in.
The sweaters I brought in were shorter in the front than in the back, but the fronts and the backs were divided by a split, so all she did was fold the back and sew it down so that it matched the length of the front. This prevented any necessary cutting of the sweater. If you look for it, you can see that I had the pieces altered, but I don't mind. She matched the lengths perfectly.
The skirts I thought were well done. She took in both skirts, and both are thicker, wintery types of material. Ons of them is quite long. They not fit me perfectly at the waist, and she took into account the volume of the skirts when she took them in at the waist. One of them had a zipper she had to deal with as well.
The dress that needed to be hemmed was a tweed-like material.
The dress with the fuller skirt was very well done. The top of the dress already fit me great, but there was just too much fabric in the skirt on ether side (A- line type of dress). So she took out some skirt at either end and re-sew the sides back together--one side had a zipper as well.
My only complaint would be that I really had to lint-roll my garments when I got home--they had many stray strings on them. I also recommend that you turn your clothing inside out, and maybe even cut some strings here and there that are poking out.

This is the second time I have come to Tony with jewelry projects. He is a very skilled jeweler and a delight to work with.  The first time he helped me select a beautiful pendant surround and chain for setting an old-fashioned cut diamond I inherited from my mother. He did a perfect job of setting the stone, and several years on, it continues to look lovely and wear well.  More recently, he carefully examined the prongs of two antique rings and made expert decisions about how to set new stones that would wear well and stay securely in their settings.  He is very cost-conscious, never pushy about selling, and charges fair prices for his labor.

I called to make sure that they could clean grease stains from silk.  They assured me it wouldn't be a problem.  The stain did not come out.  I had them re-clean the garment and still no change.  They did not offer any consolations nor were they apologetic.  I will never return.

On or about August 20, after checking Angie's List for recommended watch repair services, I contacted Leo Carroll's Jewelers to arrange for the repair of a costume jewelery pendant watch. Not an expensive watch by any measure. The verbal estimate was more than reasonable so we took the watch to Leo Carroll's for repair.
Through a series of miscommunications, the watch was finally repaired and available for pickup on October 8. The representative at Leo Carroll's was apologetic regarding the delay and discounted the repair which was appreciated. They also gave a one-year guarantee on the service. Remains to be seen whether the repair corrected the problem.

I was told the old purse wasn't worth putting the money into, nor were the boots. He sold me an inexpensive pair of innersoles to give them a few more months.
He shorted the strap of the other bag, cheaply and quickly.
They now have a consignment shop downstairs, just opened, that has nice things.

I am a big fan of Tony at Benchcraft. My husband and I got our wedding bands from him. My engagement ring is a custom hand-made item from Etsy and Tony did some legwork to find me a curved band that would fit it perfectly so that I didn't have to pay extra to have one custom-made, like I thought I would have to. I'm not absolutely sure on how much it cost us, total, but $900 seems around what it was. We both ended up getting white gold bands, mine with diamonds. One of the coolest things about the experience is that so many people who came in there while we were there were repeat customers. A young man who got his wife's engagement ring and wedding bands there was coming in to buy her a birthday present. Another lady came in to get her watch fixed. It was obvious that he is well respected in the community. Everything (including sizing) was spot-on and on-time. I would absolutely recommend Benchcraft to anyone looking for a present or wedding bands.
