Burlington Plumbers Reviews

"Our heat stopped working, and water was leaking out of a valve. I gave
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
a call, and he was able to walk me through getting the heat back up and running over the phone. Really appreciate it!
"It was great. He showed up on time, did more work than I was expecting and has since answered my calls on other issues very promptly. Great experience!"
I gave an F for overall experience because this is the worst situation I have encountered with a contractor of any kind.I gave an F for Price because
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
makes the prices up as they go - they have no hourly rate or menu of services.I gave a C for quality. They fixed the problem which is what I expected - they snapped the zone valve on with average quality.I gave a C for responsiveness because their response time was average. I gave a C for punctuality. They gave a window of time when they would arrive and they arrived at the end of that window.I gave an F for professionalism because the owner lied about his position with the company - denied being the owner.
Before they come to your house they will give you a MINIMUM cost for the visit in order to diagnose the problem.. You will assume that this is part of the total cost of the job. For example, job is $75, you pay $150. It seems that they add $150 to whatever they decide to charge you.
When they come to your house they will give you a MAXIMUM cost for the job. This is before they even look at your situation. You will assume that they have an hourly rate like most plumbers, or a menu of services (example: $50 for a leaky faucet). And you'll assume that there could be parts involved. You also expect that the final price will be justified like an auto repair shop that shows number of hours, labor charge, cost for parts, etc. They WILL NOT provide any of this. We didn't ask. you should.
They will have you sign a service "agreement". The agreement includes the maximum price but has no cost breakdown. You think - if this is major it won't cost more than this. What people don't generally think is "if this is minor they will to take advantage of the customer" They do this before they diagnose
When you question the bill they will tell you that the price is "how much this job costs". You will ask how much the hourly rate is and they WILL NOT tell you. You might ask to see a menu of their services and they will tell you they DO NOT HAVE ONE. You might even ask exactly how they arrived at the price and they will tell you that the agreement, before they diagnosed anything, indicated a maximum price. When you ask how they arrived at the agreement price they will not be able to tell you. But the price of labor only with no parts is $225 per hour. Since they replaced the faulty valve from my system with another valve from my system there was no cost for parts. They spent 1 hour and 45 minutes to replace a valve which most plumbers could do in 30 minutes, especially since this valve is modular and literally snaps on and off in seconds. I cancelled the check after speaking with the owner (who claimed not to be the owner) and called a couple of other people in the plumbing trade for an estimate of the work. Both gave a price LESS THAN HALF of

's final price. I offered to pay them half of their bill - the rate that reputable plumbers charge. They refused. I called the attorney general and they suggested mediation - where a reasonable person gives a fair determination of the cost for the work.

Compare - you go to a hospital because you have stomach pain. You ask how much it could cost. They tell you, depending on what your diagnosis is, that it could be up to $300,000. You understand that if this requires major surgery that it could be very expensive. You are told that, at a minimum, the visit will cost you $1,000. You are admitted and, after 2 hours, it is determined that you have gas pains. You are released to go home, very happy that it is not more serious. When you receive the bill (assume you have no medical insurance) you have been charged $150,000. It is more than the minimum and less than the maximum quoted. Later you find that the hospital and doctor have no prices for their services. It was a slow day and you showed up.

will respond to this post. They will tell you how professional they are. They will tell you how few complaint's they have on Angie's list. But look down the list and see the comments of the people with bad experiences. The THEME of the negative posts is the same - deceptive billing practices. Maybe they don't do this to everyone, just new customers. Maybe most people, unlike you, don't use Angie's list. I didn't. guess that's why you use Angie's list - to check on contractors you haven't done business with before. They will claim that, over the years, their customers have asked them to price things this way because those customers prefer an up front estimate of cost. But it isn't an estimate - it is a range that they can manipulate in any manner they choose and it is up to you to dispute it.
What they won't tell you is their COST PER HOUR or what they CHARGE FOR SPECIFIC SERVICES. They will not tell you any basis whatsoever for their billing. Mr.
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
, what is your hourly rate and would you please post your charge for replacing a zone valve in a heating system? If you answer, your answer will not be direct and it will include some sort of complication that makes it seem that my heating system is much more difficult to work on than anyone else's. This is another THEME that appears in your responses on Angies's list. And in NONE of your responses have you ever indicated an hourly charge or any basis at all for your billing. Why is that? I invite you to discredit this post by disclosing your hourly rate. And please, for the readers, keep it

and direct.
"We always use him. The price included the labor. He is very efficient and cleans up after himself. He uses quality products but he gets the best prices on it. We have used him for 8 years and we have a rental property that we also use him."
"They will now become my preferred plumber. I don't wait to get billed as my former plumber did. I think he may be a little bit more expensive, but I don't know. However, he will quote the cost of the job exactly before he starts it.

"The job went very well. I took photos of the corroded parts of the oil burner and sent them to
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
so when he came to work on the furnace, he had the replacement parts with him. I had bought the 'big deal' for 2 hours of plumbing work. Because he brought the parts with him, he was able to complete the job in 2 hours, so all I had to pay was the money to cover the replacement parts. I appreciate that he picked the parts up in advance and did not deduct any time from my 2 hours that I had purchased. He explained everything that he did and he made sure everything was working properly before he left. We are very pleased and will certainly use him in the future. Thank you

"I e-mailed
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
to get an estimate to replace our 14-year-old water heater while it was still functional.
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
dropped by to perform an estimate and I explained that I was thinking of replacing the unit with a high-efficiency tank-based unit. He persuaded me that a tankless unit would be a better choice and that the larger gas line needed to run it was not cost-prohibitive. After scheduling an installation appointment,
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
arrived promptly in the morning with his assistants and completed work and cleaned up by late afternoon. They got the water heater working and made sure my 50-year-old furnace restarted after restoring gas service via the larger gas line.

had pulled a permit and scheduled an inspection, which is encouraging to see with any contractor. The finished installation is very neat and meticulous, and the gas inspector commented as such. The inspector did point out that tankless water heater use in the U.S. is still relatively new and not well covered by Massachusetts plumbing code expectations. Essentially, the code still expects hot water heaters to provide full water pressure to all fixtures in the house (even though a tank may quickly turn cold if you were to do so). Tankless units have a limited flow rate, but they can provide it at proper temperature forever, and the inspector would prefer to have that acceptance by the client in writing prior to tankless unit installs, so the town doesn't end up in the middle of any client/contractor disputes about plumbing devices lacking good coverage in the code. All-in-all, we're very pleased with
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
's work. It was just what I expect when hiring a professional. We now have a 1.5 bathroom house with great hot water performance. We can take back-to-back showers without waiting for the hot heater to catch up, and running the shower at the same time as the washing machine or dishwasher works fine in the dead of winter when the incoming water temperature is lowest.
"I had been doing a lot of research on contractors for this project since my husband and I were contracting this project out ourselves. I found
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
on Angie's List and called him to come give us an estimate. We choose
Burlington Plumbers Provider Name Locked
out of our 3 estimates because not only was his price fair but he was the first one to get back to us! He is very thorough and professional. Always showed up on time. Excellent communication. Cleaned up after each time he worked on the house. I would definitely recommend his services to anyone. My husband and my parents were very pleased with his work!"

(the gentleman that did the work) was very easy to work with. He explained everything he was doing and why. Also called back to the office to get answers to a couple questions regarding possible future work. What impressed me the most, was that the company was open and recommended other companies that were better equipped to handle some of the work than they are. Nice touch: In the next week after the work was completed, they sent ME a "Thank you", card!"
"When I called, I was able to speak to a person who answered the phone. Most firms use an answering service or machine where you leave your message and wait for a call back. The person I spoke to was very helpful and responsive. They were able to handle the job on a emergency basis. The plumber and assistant who came were very prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable. They fixed the problem quickly."
