Not a man of his word. One of his employees damaged my brand new car. He said he would pay for damages. We sent a very reasonable estimate and gave him ample time to pay. He never mailed a check and now he doesn't answer calls.

overall, quality was fair (playroom) to poor (kitchen and windows) We had the work done almost 5 years ago and almost from the beginning had problems. The inspection showed the sewer system hadn't been hooked up right so they had to re do. problems with the heating in the playroom so we had to have a friend come over and add some venting. the backsplash in the kitchen came unattached from the wall. Jim did send a few guys out to fix this (happened about 2 years after the initial job) but we are seeing the same thing happen again. The clean up after the jobs were less than stellar (one example, trash left in drawers along with trash (we have young kids who could have gotten into it)) Overall, we were surprised by the outcome, as we had seen work he had done for someone else which is why we hired him.

kitchen - the backsplash separated from the wall within 2 years of the update. Jim sent someone out to fix it, and it is on its way to happening yet again. It actually looks as though the piece used for the backsplash should not be used as one (the seam of the backsplash is coming apart and what looks like corkboard is coming through). When the drawers were put in, we noticed the they were very much misaligned, and the manufacturer of the cabinets had to come out to realign them. There was trash (such as nails) and As for the basement, there was an issue with not having enough vents to heat the space (which Jim did have someone come back and install an additional one after he was informed of the problem). The biggest issue was the 1/2 bath that was redone. The bathroom itself came out great. Unfortunately, at the time of the inspection , it was realized by the town inspector that the plumbing needed to be hooked up to town, not to the septic (which was where it was previously hooked up to). This is something that the plumber should have been aware of and yet was not. The job needed to be redone, at Jim's expense, with another plumber. The plumbing was then done correctly however cosmetically it did not look as good as it had initially.

Mr. Bedford was delayed in starting the project by wait for town approval, then by previous commitment. He presented his plan to me, once started, Mr. Bedford diligently and promptly @ day and completed the work to my approval.

He was very responsive prior to the date.  On the day of the work, they were on time and performed in a timely fashion as he had informed me.
cleaning of materials was also done.
I am very pleased with their work and would highly recommend them to others.

We had consulted with Joe back in June 2012 requesting an estimate on remodel of our garage and adding a master suite above it. Due to the restrictions and the size of the lot we had to get a variance through the city. In order to get a variance a surveyor and architect plans were required. I did all the running around to save us time and money with the builder for nothing. He had ample opportunity to tell us the project was going to cost alot more upon receipt of the first set of architect plans but he did not he just proceeded to string us along.  We went through this entire exercise for a total of 3800 and 6 months later we received a final price of 213K when he had given us an estimate of 60-80 for the remodel and even indicated he could put an entire second story on our ranch for 150-180K. Every step of the way he did not meet our expectation from the architect who had 2 no shows to the sub contractos coming and giving me a time frame of 2-3 weeks when it took closer to 8 weeks. What bothers me the most was we expected the project to begin in the fall and with that I took out a mortgage for the estimate with a significant buffer so not only are we out the expense of the project but the closing costs of a mortgage we never would have taken out..

Mr Shiavone and his men built a 2 level addition onto our raised ranch 10 years ago and we still think back on the experience very positively.  The workers were respectful and professional.  Once work began we saw steady progress daily with very little experience with delays.  The work of the subcontractors was done well and the inspector spoke highly of the results.  The area was cleaned up daily and all extra materials were disposed of by the contractor.  We would be pleased to do business with them again.
